While rumours about this casting have been afloat for some time, reports have now confirmed that Karan Johar zeroed in on Chunky Panday’s elder daughter after her stellar audition. A source was quoted as saying, “Karan, Tiger Shroff and director Punit Malhotra were present at the audition where Ananya was asked to read out Alia’s lines from Student Of The Year . And Ananya sailed through like a professional. Karan immediately decided to cast her.” Panday is the newest addition to the batch of Bollywood’s next gen making their entry on to the silver screen in 2018, with Saif Ali Khan’s daughter Sara Ali Khan making her debut in Abhishek Kapoor’s Kedarnath and Sridevi’s daughter Janhvi Kapoor starring alongside Shahid Kapoor’s brother Ishaan Khatter in Karan Johar’s other production, Dhadak . Karan Johar’s first Student of The Year film served as a launch pad for Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan and Sidharth Malhotra into Bollywood, making Panday’s casting as a fresh face in the film industry even more fitting.

Mrinalini Chandra’s jewellery collection is perfect for Candy Crush addicts

YOU HAVE READ OF 10 STORIES THIS MONTH 30 day free access to digital issues worth INR 400 Get it now ! 1 /7 Mrinalini Chandra might refer to her eponymous brand as a small craft-based one, but trend forecasting agency WGSN have clearly put their bets on her. After listing her as the top jewellery designer in Asia, Chandra’s work caught the eye of King Digital Entertainment, the company that owns the popular phone game Candy Crush. Candy Crush is expanding on its merchandise in fashion sector, such as the brand’s collaboration with Moschino for autumn/winter 2017. Blending Chandra’s signature meenakari work with Candy Crush’s pop colours and shapes, Mrinalini Chandra will be launching four such capsule collections for the next two years. Starting with a contemporary line of necklaces, bracelets, earrings, brooches and rings inspired by the game, Chandra wanted to offer the first range to wider audience. The second collection has a festive touch to it and will also have kaliras for the alternate bride. The following collection will have menswear accessories lie pins and cufflinks. For jewellery label based between Benaras and Jaipur, producing hand painted jewellery in large quantities would pose a problem. “We created the casts for the jewellery using 3-D printing for the sake of uniformity. The enamelling was done by hand, maintaining the brand’s DNA,” the designer tells us. And while the collection was made to suit the taste of the local audience, making something that would be shopped with equal enthusiasm overseas was a challenge. “We went back and forth on the use of gold and perfecting the enamel colours even though they were hand processed, but I am so happy with the final product,” Chandra, nervous but thoroughly pleased with her handiwork. The debut collection of rings, necklaces, bracelets and earrings will be launched in India on Mrinalinichandra.com on November 29, following which it will be made available on Myntra.com. The line will also be showcased world over through various trade fairs.

Jacqueline Fernandez & Varun Dhawan are now using pole dancing as a workout

YOU HAVE READ OF 10 STORIES THIS MONTH 30 day free access to digital issues worth INR 400 Get it now ! Next While Pilates and HIIT exercises are now household names when it comes to workouts, there’s always a new routine that comes around and soon garners its own set of loyalists. In April this year, Jacqueline Fernandez posted a couple of images and videos on her Instagram from her pole workout sessions with trainer Roksolana Chubenko aka @lanaroxy that had her followers intrigued, to say the least. While this form of dance may not be targeted towards weight loss, you’ll definitely find yourself getting toned overall, and it’s great for improving balance and coordination. Chubenko, who has taught pole dancing in Ukraine, Italy and Dubai before making her way to India to work with Fernandez for her film roles, gives us five reasons why a pole workout should be the next fitness routine you dive into. #1: It’s fun and a change from your regular cardio Fernandez was her first celebrity client in India and the demand for pole workouts has only grown ever since the actor’s intriguing Instagram posts. “I came down to train Jacqueline for her movie, A Gentleman and ever since her post, the interest in the form has only grown. A lot of people now want to learn pole dancing.” She’s also possibly looking at opening her own studio in the country. A post shared by Jacqueline Fernandez (@jacquelinef143) on Apr 7, 2017 at 5:25am PDT #2: It looks effortless, but it’s a lot of work It’s amazing how easy pole dancing looks, in correlation to how much effort it actually takes. In fact, even a fitness junkie like Varun Dhawan found it to be a lot tougher than he’d imagined. “Jacqui introduced Varun to it and he really liked his first class, it was a lot of fun with all the energy around. Even though he found it hard, it’s helping him with body mobility and flexibility; that’s what pole workouts work well for.” A post shared by Roksolana Chubenko (@lanaroxy) on Nov 21, 2017 at 8:30pm PST #3: It engages your mind and body Pole workouts have a lot to do with your mind as well—they bring together coordination, balance, choreography and weight-lifting at once. They’re supposed to make you feel good about yourself, mentally and physically. “[Unlike a traditional gym] when you workout on the pole, you have your room, the pole and a workout in your head that you’re going to perform. The stronger and better you get, the more confident you become and that’s a feeling that lasts outside the class. Some people even take up pole workouts for this reason. They’re facing issues in their life or are low on self-confidence and they come here to feel better about themselves.” A post shared by Jacqueline Fernandez (@jacquelinef143) on Nov 19, 2017 at 3:56am PST #4: It’s a full body workout Unlike other workouts where you mostly work certain areas with targeted moves, pole workouts require you to use your entire body each time. “You work with your own body weight. You need to be coordinated. Pole workouts help you work on your coordination skills and use various exercises to increase stability.” A post shared by Roksolana Chubenko (@lanaroxy) on Apr 12, 2017 at 9:34am PDT #5: It’s suitable for all fitness levels While it’s a challenge to take on, you don’t need to be a gym regular before you try pole workouts, even though that would help. “A lot of girls come in saying that they’re not fit or that they haven’t worked out for a while which makes them hesitant to give the pole a shot. You can come in at any fitness level and slowly you will achieve something. Of course, the people who already practice other dance forms or workout regularly will get a hang of the pole faster. You will need to work for it, but it’s not impossible.” A post shared by Roksolana Chubenko (@lanaroxy) on Apr 10, 2017 at 1:07am PDT

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle engaged: Everything we know so far

YOU HAVE READ OF 10 STORIES THIS MONTH 30 day free access to digital issues worth INR 400 Get it now ! Image: Getty You’ll always know where you were and what you were doing when the usually reclusive Prince Harry of Wales and Suits actor Meghan Markle announced that we have a royal wedding to prepare for. It started out as another routine Monday, with the hands of the clock doing their usual slow dance between 11am and 11:01am—except for one happily engaged couple. The much-in-love Prince Harry and Markle decided to make things official and announced that they are set to walk down the aisle in spring 2018. You may not be invited, but we know that you’ve got the date marked in red in your calendar already. After a quaint photo call with the Kensington Palace as the backdrop, the newly-engaged couple sat down for a tell-all interview with BBC’s Mishal Husain . From her first reaction to the detailed specs of the ring, go ahead and shoot your questions. How do you pop the question when you are the Prince of Wales? “It was just a cosy night, we were roasting a chicken, when he got down on one knee. It was an amazing surprise, it was so sweet and natural and very romantic. I could barely let him finish proposing, I said—can I say yes now?” laughed Markle, while the Prince agreed, “She didn’t even let me finish, she said, ‘Can I say yes, can I say yes?’ I had the ring in my finger and I was like, ‘Can I give you the ring?’ She goes, ‘Oh yes, the ring!’ It was just the two of us and I think I managed to catch her by surprise as well.” 1 /9 Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Image: Getty Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Image: Getty Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Image: Getty Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Image: Getty Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Image: Getty Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Image: Getty Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Image: Getty Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Image: Rex Features Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Image: Rex Features How did the couple first meet? “We were introduced by a mutual friend in the beginning of July. And about three, maybe four weeks later I managed to persuade her to come and join me in Botswana. We camped out with each other under the stars, it was absolutely fantastic,” he raved while she added, “Just to take the time to be able to go on long country walks and just talk.” “I fell in love with Meghan so incredibly quickly—it was a confirmation to me that all the stars were aligned. This beautiful woman literally tripped and fell into my life. I fell into her life and the fact that she will be unbelievably good at the job part of it as well is obviously a huge relief to me because she’ll be able to deal with everything else that comes with it,” he affirmed. How does one deal with all the publicity when you’ve only just started dating? “It’s been a year and a half since we met but I don’t think I would call it a whirlwind relationship. Obviously there have been layers attached to how public it has become after we had a good five, six months almost with just privacy, which was amazing. But no, I think we were able to really have so much time just to connect and we never went longer than two weeks without seeing each other, even though we were obviously doing a long distance relationship. So we made it work.” What does the engagement ring of the future Duchess look like? “The ring is obviously yellow gold because that’s her favourite. The main stone itself I sourced from Botswana and the little diamonds either side are from my mother’s jewellery collection to make sure that she’s with us on this crazy journey together,” asserted Prince Harry. “It’s beautiful and he designed it! …Obviously not being able to meet his mom, it’s so important to me to… to know that she’s a part of this with us. It’s incredibly special. And you know to be able to have this [thing] which sort of links where you come from, and Botswana which is important to us, and it’s perfect,” the 36-year-old smiled. What would Princess Diana and Markle have been like together? “Oh, they’d be thick as thieves, without question. I think she would be over the moon, jumping up and down, you know so excited for me,” he gushed before adding, “It is days like today when I really miss having her around and miss being able to share the happy news. But I’m sure she’s with us, you know, jumping up and down somewhere else.” That being said, how did she first meet the Queen of England? “It’s incredible you know… to be able to meet her through his lens, not just with his honour and respect for her as the monarch, but the love that he has for her as his grandmother, all of those layers have been so important for me so that when I met her I had such a deep understanding, and of course incredible respect for being able to have that time with her,” Markle smiled. “The corgis took to you straight away. I’ve spent the last 33 years being barked at; this one walks in, absolutely nothing…” he rued, with her piping in, “Just laying on my feet during tea, it was very sweet.” “… just wagging tails and I was just like argh,” the Prince finished. Hollywood’s favourite nail manicurist shares his best nail art and care tips

Jennifer Lopez Image: Instagram.com/tombachik Tom Bachik, manicurist to Hollywood celebrities like Selena Gomez, JLo, Heidi Klum and OPI’s global nail ambassador chatted with Vogue on how to keep yourself well-polished (pun intended) at all times. Do we need to let our nails relax between manicures? No, relaxing is not necessary. Nails grow from the inside out, so taking time off between manicures has no benefits. Nails are dead keratin and do not breath. Nails grow from the matrix area below the cuticle and what you apply to the surface in the big picture does not affect the nails. How products are applied and removed has more of an effect. Do you agree with having permanent nail extensions? Is it healthy to have them on for too much time? Yes, I definitely see a need for permanent nails. Not everyone is born with strong, elegant natural nails. Permanent nails, when done properly, are a safe and practical way to achieve beautiful nails. But, I do recommend a trained licensed professional for best results. They will make sure your natural nail remains healthy underneath. How should we take care of our nails? Tips to keep them healthy? The best way to take care of your nails is to get regular manicures, a healthy diet and keep them well hydrated with a great cuticle oil. I recommend the OPI ProSpa Nail & Cuticle Oil with grapeseed, sesame, kukui, sunflower and cupuaçu oils that provide the ultimate in moisture. What are the top shades for everyday nails? Right now, the top shades for everyday nails are reds, nudes and dark rich tones. Is nail art trending again? I think on social media there’s always nail art trending, but overall, nail art follows fashion, so it’s still here but in a new way. Nail art was everywhere and to the extreme when the look was ’70s disco and ’80s excess. But now that things are simpler, more minimalistic, so is nail art. Small shapes, a coloured accent nail, a pop or splash of colour or metallic accents add a personal touch to a modern look. I believe nail art is part of our current culture and as fashion continues to evolve, so will nail art. What are some tricks to perfecting an at-home manicure? After removing old colour, temporarily dehydrate the surface of the nail with isopropyl alcohol (90 per cent works best). Women often use the polish remover to cleanse the nail but most removers contain lanolin and other moisturisers for protection. These moisturisers can block proper adhesion of the nail lacquer. Use a base coat. Base coats are designed to be more flexible and help in longer wear of your manicure Apply two, thin, even coats of lacquer. This will help to speed up dry time. (If you desire better coverage, three thin coats are better than two thick coats.) Let nails dry for about a minute or two before applying top coat. During this time, use an old lip or eye liner brush with remover to clean up around the cuticles for photo-ready nails. Apply a top coat for protection and high gloss shine. Finish with cuticle oil for the perfect at-home manicure. What’s the one thing women are doing wrong when it comes to taking care of their nails? If I had to pick one thing, it would be not hydrating nails daily. The daily rigours of our lives can leave hands and nails very dehydrated; especially with most hand washes being antimicrobial. Simply using cuticle oil nightly can help cuticles from hanging, nails from peeling and polish from chipping. A close second is how to make nails dry faster. The key is to let the lacquer dry a minute or two before applying topcoat. OPI’s quick dry top coat can dry quicker than the colour trapping in solvents and actually prolonging the dry time. How do you choose the perfect nail colour for each celebrity? When choosing the perfect nail colour for each celebrity, there are a number of factors that come into play. First collaborating with the celebrity to get an overall feel of the night’s look. Then brainstorm with my other glam team peeps to start working off elements in her look like eyes, lips, shoes, or pops of colour in her gown. I put all of that into a magic mixing bowl with a pinch of their personality for final taste, bake it at 350, then simmer for a few more minutes and BAAAM the perfect shade! Who has worn your favourite manicure of all the time? They all have their favourite moments for me but I’m going to say JLo. She likes her bling and likes to go all out. From red carpet to music videos, to global performances, she’s always ready to push it. Also, because she is always trying something different. We recently changed her shape from the iconic, long, stiletto tips to a classic modern take on old Hollywood. Shorter softer and more elegant is now her vibe. Who was the first celebrity you ever worked with? What was that experience like? The first big celebrity that I remember working with would have to be Britney Spears. It was in 2003 for the cover of Rolling Stone with photographer Matthew Rolston. I was super excited, a bit star-struck and had a total fan boy moment… until she smudged her polish again for the third time absentmindedly running her hands through her hair while talking on the phone. It also put things in perspective for me that the celebrities are just people too. Tell us the first word—nail descriptor—that comes to mind when you hear the following names: Jennifer Lopez: Bling

Why Meghan Markle’s engagement ring is being valued ‘priceless’ by experts

Not surprisingly, the royal couple has been making headlines ever since the formal announcement by Clarence House earlier this week. The ring in question is unique and thoughtfully-designed by the prince himself and created by Cleave & Company, Queen Elizabeth II’s preferred jeweller. Made of diamonds, the centre stone was sourced from Botswana where Prince Harry travelled to while growing up, and also happens to be where he celebrated Markle’s 36th birthday. The diamonds surrounding it come from the late Princess Diana’s personal jewellery collection, the stones are set in yellow gold, which is Markle’s favourite. Given the significance of the diamonds being from Princess Diana’s collection, and sentiment surrounding to each of the elements, experts have valued the ring as priceless, according to Money . The happy couple posed for pictures in their first official photo call yesterday, where Markle was seen in green dress and white trench coat by Canadian-based label Line, and a pair of tie-up pumps. It’s a given that the Line will be expecting a heavy flow of orders now that a royal has been spotted wearing it. When Kate Middleton opted for a dress by Anita Dongre during her visit to India , the designer spoke about the chaos that followed. “The phone has been ringing non-stop. I have barely been able to work at all. The site crashed and the IT team was up all night fixing it. I guess we went overboard with the Instagram posts but I am such a fan of her style I couldn’t help myself. Sold out? I’m beyond sold out and the orders are still pouring in!” she said. Historically, royal weddings lead to much public curiosity and it goes without saying that when Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s takes place in spring 2018, it will be one of the most heavily-reported events seen till date.
