Saks, Aditya Birla put off plans to open maiden store in Gurgaon

American luxury department store chain Saks, owned by Hudson's Bay Company has stalled plans to open their first store in Gurgaon's Aerocity. As per sources Saks Fifth Avenue had to open its first store in partnership with the Aditya Birla Group in Aerocity, one India’s rapidly-growing tony zones, followed by a second one in Mumbai's Bandra Kurla Complex. Saks Fifth Avenue operates around 50 stores in upscale locations across the world, including Beverly Hills and Bahrain, with its flagship store in Midtown Manhattan in New York. The compounded growth rate of the number of Indian high net worth households over the last five years was 16 per cent, with 1.5 lakh such households having a combined net worth of Rs 135 lakh crore in FY16. This is expected to grow to around 3 lakh households with a combined net worth of Rs 300 lakh crore by 2021. And interestingly, in contrast with traditional trends, currently around 59 per cent of ultra-high net worth individuals (HNIs) prefer to shop for luxury goods at home. Experts say large Indian businesses such as the Aditya Birla Group, may not be prudent to venture into the niche luxury segment. Companies, including Reliance with Jio and D-Mart, have shown that India excels when it comes to mass-market segments. Saks Fifth Avenue may be a great vanity name, but for Birla luxury may not be the ideal opportunity to spend energy on at the moment.

Last night saw the Zee Cine Awards 2017 take place in Mumbai, where the best of the industry showed up dressed to the nines. Priyanka Chopra is back on the home turf, and chose a pop pink gown by Zuhair Murad and jewellery by Nirav Modi for the occasion. Katrina Kaif went with an embellished lehenga in pale peach by Manish Malhotra. While the choice of a lehenga on the red carpet could have easily been filed in the overdressed category, Kaif kept it easy with minimal accessories. Alia Bhatt has been a fan of dresses for as long as we can remember. The actor went with a cropped gown in ultramarine blue by Atelier Zuhra for the occasion. Meanwhile, Sridevi chose a traditional silk sari by Sabyasachi for the awards ceremony and Jacqueline Fernandez went with a statement gown by Jar Sara. Label Falguni Shane Peacock was a popular choice for the night—Tanishaa Mukerji, Taapsee Pannu and Nidhhi Agerwal were seen in the label’s signature glitter gowns. Never one to disappoint sartorially, Ranveer Singh arrived in a floral three-piece suit by Anuj Madaan for the occasion. Among other stars spotted at the Zee Cine Awards red carpet were Akshay Kumar, Rajkummar Rao, Shahid Kapoor, Sidharth Malhotra, Sophie Choudry and Jackie Shroff. The designer kurtas, shararas and salwar sets you need this wedding season

Set, Rohit Gandhi + Rahul Khanna Kurta set, Shehlaa Kurta, Varsha Wadhwa We’ll admit it, the ongoing wedding season coupled with end-of-year parties makes December a tough month to cope with. Night after night of revelry is bound to end in fashion fatigue which in turn might make you want to stay in. Don’t let the stress of dressing up come in the way of you enjoying with your friends; instead, dial down the extravagance for a few events and go light this wedding season. You don’t have to be draped in yards of fabric for every festivity in the wedding sphere. A serial baraati knows the right loopholes on the event schedule where you can wear an easy kurta set and not look underdressed. Have you noticed how Katrina Kaif's changed her style?

Have you noticed how Katrina Kaif's changed her style? An ethereal upgrade By Shweta Gandhi December 20, 2017 SHARE From last night's Zee Cine Awards 2018 to the Lux Golden Rose Awards 2017 held just a couple of days ago, Katrina Kaif has made her new-found penchant for muted and understated colours very apparent. The Tiger Zinda Hai actress has been choosing to wear traditional ensembles — even on the red carpet — picking from the likes of Manish Malhotra, Tarun Tahiliani and Kotwara by Meera and Muzaffar Ali. The sudden change in her colour palette is a refreshing take as the actress was usually spotted in bright, bold hues that complemented her dark hair and eyes. Lighter shades like beige, dusty gold, champagne and millennial pink have suddenly become Katrina's favourites, and the good news is that these colours work wonderfully for the Indian skin. Unsure how to pull it off? Take style notes from Katrina Kaif herself. 5 times Katrina Kaif aced soft neutrals: Katrina Kaif at the Zee Cine Awards 2018 Katrina at the Lux Golden Rose Awards 2017 Katrina at Ambani's party for Sadiq Khan, mayor of London Katrina on the sets of Super Dancer 2 Katrina for her movie promotions The Tiger Zinda Hai actress chose to do down the traditional route for the red carpet with her Manish Malhotra lehenga set in cream with intricate silver embroidery work. Woodland mulls changing from partnership to a corporate structure

Woodland set up its first outlet in 1992 in Delhi. Today, it is one of India’s most successful retail brands with over 600 outlets and 20 per cent of its Rs 1,200-crore turnover contributed by exports. What has remained unchanged is its organisation structure. It is still a partnership firm, arguably the only one among its peers. The Harkirat Singh and his father Avtar Singh have continued to be owners of the brand through a partnernship. However, Woodland is now mulling a change in status. The brand is expanding overseas and needs a corporate entity. The company is talking to consultants on what sort of corporate structure would suit, says Harkirat Singh. With 80 per cent stores making profits, and turnover growing at 15 per cent a year, Woodland has sufficient internal accrual to fund the annual capex requirement of Rs 60 crore. A partnership firm has limited access to finance, a price that it pays for exemptions from mandatory disclosures and regulatory compliance. Over the past 25 years, the retail sector has moved away from company-owned-company-operated (COCO) model to franchise stores. Woodland, on the other hand, has mostly stuck to the COCO model, with barely 10-15 franchise stores in the network.
