Twinkle Khanna is working this classic colour combination like a pro

Twinkle Khanna is working this classic colour combination like a pro Time to jot down some style notes By Shweta Gandhi Whether it's her Chanel vintage quilted bag that she's carrying around or the To Kill A Mockingbird book she's hiding in the same bag, Twinkle Khanna is all about the classics. And this philosophy extends to the colours she chooses to wear. At the recent premiere of the play Salaam, Noni Appa — adapted from her bestseller The Legend of Lakshmi Prasad — the author and interior designer showed off the timeless appeal of navy blue and tan. From head to toe, Twinkle worked different shades of blue and tan, adding just the right amount of gold through a statement ring and her Bulgari Serpenti watch. Light pink lips, kohl-rimmed eyes and a touch of blush on her cheeks completed the understated look. Twinkle styled her midnight blue blazer embellished with gold buttons with a nude camisole that she tucked into her flared blue jeans. Beige peep-toe pumps accentuated her look. That Chanel vintage maxi caviar quilted bag in tan put the entire ensemble together — we're sure it's because of the bag's versatility that makes it Twinkle's favourite. (PS: See all the luxurious bags in Twinkle's closet ). The multi-hyphenate opted for the same combination to Suzanne Khan's birthday party a couple of days back, where she styled a short blue A-line net dress with the same beige peep-toe pumps and Bulgari Serpenti watch. A beige clutch finished off the neat look. Clearly, the witty writer knows how to work her colours. In case you were wondering which books live in her massive library: City of Djinns, William Dalrymple Trigger Warnings, Neil Gaiman The Great Gatsby, F. Scott Fitzgerald Hitman Anders and the meaning of it all, Jonas Jonasson To Kill A Mocking Bird, Harper Lee The Little Prince, Antoine de Saint-Exupéry Magpie Murders, Anthony Horowitz My Brilliant Friend, Elena Ferrante The Course of Love, Allain de Botton Twinkle tried to get through this one as slowly as possible just to make it last longer. That time Twinkle made her husband, Akshay Kumar, go book shopping with her. Jeeves and the Yule-tide Spirit, P.G Wodehouse The Curvy Girls Club, Michele Gorman Such a long Journey, Rohinton Mistry Dragons at Crumbling Castle, Terry Pratchett (for her kids) Trigger Warnings, Neil Gaiman For the literary romantics Khanna recommends Dear Scott, Dearest Zelda. Twinkle is seriously obsessed with the Fitzgeralds. If you're high school reading covered Gatsby, you may want to check out Tender is the night You know when you check out a book by a same author because you loved his previous work? Well this one didn't hit the spot for Twinkle quite like The Hundred Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out Of The Window And Disappeared Of course Twinkle sticks to teh classics The children's book that makes it to most adult's all time reading favourites. That time when Twinkle went to detox with her sister and discovered they were reading the same book. "My Brilliant Friend is brilliant indeed. This book does not do any of the complicated zigzags of successful storytelling but is an arrow that flies parallel to the ground and hits at the heart of all human emotion." Twinkle breaks it down The psychology of your relationship wrapped up in a love story City of Djinns, William Dalrymple Twinkle tried to get through this one as slowly as possible just to make it last longer. Trigger Warnings, Neil Gaiman That time Twinkle made her husband, Akshay Kumar, go book shopping with her. Jeeves and the Yule-tide Spirit, P.G Wodehouse The Curvy Girls Club, Michele Gorman Such a long Journey, Rohinton Mistry Dragons at Crumbling Castle, Terry Pratchett (for her kids) Trigger Warnings, Neil Gaiman

Feminist David Beckham on how he's teaching his sons to respect women

Feminist David Beckham on how he's teaching his sons to respect women The father-of-four has weighed in By Katie O'Malley He might be well-known for his flawless football skills on the pitch, modelling in his briefs, being a doting father to his four children, and husband to an internationally renowned fashion designer. But David Beckham would also like to be known as a feminist and parent to three young boys who have learned the true value of respecting women. In a new interview with the Irish Independent , the 42-year-old has opened up about modern masculinity, fatherhood and feminism and, we must admit, he's now officially our 'Monday Man Crush'. Instagram: @davidbeckam Asked whether he'd call himself a feminist, the former footballer said: "Would I? Sure, yeah, I'd like to feel that I am a feminist. I stand up for many different things that I believe in." Explaining how he learned to be a feminist, the entrepreneur credits his parents and wife for teaching him the importance of giving women the respect and appreciation they rightfully deserve throughout his life. "Having a little girl, I think that's a big part of it. You know, my mum and my dad always brought me up to respect my sisters, my mum, my grandmother. I think that is one thing that I was always brought up with. It is an important part of my life. It has always been an important part of my life." A post shared by David Beckham (@davidbeckham) on Sep 28, 2017 at 12:46pm PDT At one point during the interview, Beckham was asked whether he thought feminism was in his DNA. "I'd like to think it is," he replied. "And I want to do the same for my children. My sons." Instagram: @davidbeckam With three sons ranging in age from 12-18, Beckham explains that both he and Victoria have educated their children from an early age on how to treat all men and women equally. "It runs all the way through the house," he explained. "You know, I think at the end of the day, I have an amazing mum; I had an amazing grandmother. I have amazing sisters. I have an amazing daughter and I want my sons and people around them to respect them [women] in the way that they deserve." Anyone else want to give David a big ol' high-five right now?

Whatsapp now allows you to delete messages you really didn't want people to see

Whatsapp now allows you to delete messages you really didn't want people to see Drunk texters, rejoice By Katie O'Malley We all know that sinking feeling when you accidentally send a screenshot of a conversation, b*tchy comment about a friend, or 'cheeky' selfie to the wrong person on Whatsapp. Oh the shame, the guilt, the horror! Well, fortunately the brainiacs over at Whatsapp have come to our technological disaster rescue and revolutionised the way we interact on the app forever. Digital Spy reports the instant messaging service has been developing a new function, officially known as 'Delete for Everyone', for several months and has finally started to roll out the feature to users of the most recent version of the app. As a result, 'Whatsappers' will now be able to 'recall' or 'revoke' a message with seven minutes — yep, a mere seven minutes is your window here — as long as the recipient hasn't read the message and both of you are using the latest version of WhatsApp for iPhone, Windows Phone or Android. Given the way us technophiles are rarely a metre away from our phones these days, the chances of your mate on WhatsApp not spotting your message within seven minutes is unlikely but, it's worth a shot, right? In an FAQ explaining how to use the new function , WhatsApp said: "This is particularly useful if you sent a message to the wrong chat or if the message you sent contains a mistake. Messages you successfully delete for everyone will be replaced with "This message was deleted" in your recipients' chats." "Similarly, if you see "This message was deleted" in a chat, it means that the sender deleted their message for everyone." Okay, so recepients will be informed of your 'regret-delete' decision but they'll be none the wiser when it comes to knowing what your shameful message entailed which, as we all know, is well worth the embarrassment. To unsend/delete a message, all you have to do is tap and hold the text you wish to recall, then choose 'Delete' from the menu then 'Delete for Everyone'.

Stop being too picky about relationship

Stop being too picky about relationship

There's no harm in being a little picky when it comes to dating or forging a relationship. You are well within your rights to have high standards while choosing a mate. It's fine if you go through your potential match's academic, professional and tax records with a fine toothcomb. It also makes sense if you'd like your prospective boyfriend to be a highly driven, career-oriented individual, just as you are. But sometimes being too picky can work against you. By choosing to be selective, you might end up judging a person by a very narrow set of values. So here's how you can open up a little and relax your standards a bit: Keep an open mind: Flexibility is the name of the game. When you're meeting a person for the first time, don't go for an inquisition - for instance, asking pointed questions about work and net worth only. Keep the conversation easy and free-flowing. You might discover something completely likeable in your prospective partner - some quality which you haven't accounted for in your wishlist. Prioritise: Do jot down the points to remember or make a wishlist with regard to the specific qualities you are looking for in a partner. But prioritise - distinguish between things that are absolutely non-negotiable and things that can call for a compromise. Be ready to add or subtract from the list. Deal with your fears: Ask yourself, what has made you so choosy in the first place? Are you afraid of rejection? Or are there other fears lurking in your mind that hinder you from opening up? Answers to these can go a long way in finding the right partner for you. Too similar, too boring: If your prospective date and you are like two peas in a pod, won't that lead to boredom and friction in the long run? You might like to have similar likes and dislikes, but some dissimilarities can be welcome as well. The idea is to complement each other, after all. Peer review: Discuss with your friends and family from time to time whether you are setting exacting standards when it comes to dating. They can help you make a clear self-assessment and point out exactly where you can be going wrong.

A trip can make or break a relationship

Reasons Why A Trip Can Make Or Break Your Relationship Reasons why a trip can make or break your relationship by Sneha Mahale | October 31, 2017, 12:00 AM IST You may have just started dating your SO or you could have been in a relationship for a few months. Either way, taking a trip together is a good way to see if you could be with your partner in the long run. Here are a few reasons why you should vacation together. Being on the road together means spending ample time with each other. You can ask questions you may not have had the opportunity to ask. You understand how best to communicate with your partner. Is he open to honest communication? Does he accept constructive criticism? A trip together is great way to learn all this. You learn to compromise It isn’t always possible to see, do or experience everything on your bucket list when you travel with someone. This is when you get acquainted with a concept called compromise. You then have the opportunity to see if your partner will meet you halfway or insist that you stick to his agenda. This will help you understand how things will be if such a situation arises in your relationship in the future. You learn to adapt Visiting a foreign country with a language barrier, cultural differences or even different types of food gives you an understanding of how fast your partner adjusts to new situations. This is a good test to check how he will react to any challenges you might face in the future. You learn how they treat others Taking a trip means meeting people from all walks of life and interacting with them. They could be porters at the station, locals at the place you are visiting or fellow travellers. You get to observe how your partner treats people from different strata of society and this gives you a better understanding of his personality. You discover his habits In the early days of a relationship, everything is hunky-dory. You are on your best behavior and you rarely find anything wrong in your SO. Travelling together helps both of you learn each other’s pet peeves. You also learn one another’s daily routine and find out if you can adapt to it or not. You see how he manages his finances This one is important because money is a huge factor in most relationships. Planning and taking a tip together gives you a better understanding of your partner’s financial habits. Is he a spendthrift or a miser? This is a great way to find out. It is easy for both of you to be your sweet selves on a date when you meet for a few hours. Spending a lot of time together at a place that is outside your comfort zone can be trying. You begin to get on one another’s nerves and test each other’s patience. How you deal with the situation will determine how both of you handle and deal with inconveniences.

Deepika Padukone's favourite colour combination would look amazing on you too

Deepika Padukone's favourite colour combination would look amazing on you too And it's surprisingly easy to put together By Shweta Gandhi October 30, 2017 SHARE We all have that one go-to colour combination that guarantees us compliments, and Deepika Padukone is no stranger to that feeling. In the recent past, the actress has shown us that she has no qualms about repeating her outfits at public events. And in that repetition, we noticed a trend — Deepika's soft corner for black and gold. The star was seen sporting a black spaghetti top with gold lamé palazzo pants from 3.1 Phillip Lim yesterday, an ensemble she first wore to Shahid Kapoor's birthday bash earlier this year in February. Spotted after hanging out with Sidharth Malhotra, Aditya Roy Kapur and Sonakshi Sinha Deepika even ensured she wore the same black pointed-toe pumps to complete the classy look. Deepika at Shahid's birthday In another instance, Deepika opted for a black and gold sequinned off-shoulder evening dress this year when she attended the Oscars after party event — a look that the actress pulled off exactly five years ago when she wore a similar Dolce and Gabbana gown to an awards event. Deepika at the Vanity Fair Oscars after party earlier this year Call it coincidence? We call it synchronicity. Deepika at an awards function in 2012 At a party last year, the actress chose a metallic Rajesh Pratap Singh tuxedo suit that beautifully blended black and gold together. Isn't she glowing? Or is that the camera flash? While doing promotions for her film Bajirao Mastani last year, the actress styled a striped shirt with a sequinned body-hugging skirt. Deepika has mastered the art of wearing black and golden-tone metallics together — why not take some inspiration and get yourselves an outfit like this? H&M, basic top, Rs. 399. 6 simple steps to completely reset your unhealthy life, by celebrity nutritionist Luke Coutinho

6 simple steps to completely reset your unhealthy life, by celebrity nutritionist Luke Coutinho It's time to put your health first By Elle Team October 30, 2017 SHARE According to Luke Coutinho, India’s leading expert in integrative and lifestyle medicine, being healthy isn’t a goal, it’s a way of living. If only we preach this, half the health problems we face will be resolved without needing doctors, treatments and medication. It’s all about the everyday choices and alterations you make. In a quick chat with Luke, we decoded the factors and habits that are severely wrong with our lifestyles and also learned that the only way to turn your health around is by living a disciplined and balanced life. Whether it’s not being able to lose weight or minor illnesses you face in your day-to-day life, we are always looking for shortcuts. All you need to do to reset your life is to start making small, everyday changes and be consistent about them. To learn more about the idea of reset and how to implement it, watch the video below. 6 important lifestyle tips to improve your health by Luke Coutinho A good night's sleep - When you have sufficient amount of sleep, you develop clarity in your thoughts and feel positive. With adequate amounts of regular sleep, you’re automatically changing the rhythm of your body. In order to do that, you need a digital detox an hour prior to bed-time. Breathing exercises can also be an effective tool for those who find it hard to fall asleep. Consistent physical activity - With a generation that is obsessed with binge-watching television shows, we need to indulge in physical activities that exhaust our bodies and not just our minds. It is no secret that working out is as good for your mind as it is for your body, but the key is to be consistent and make it a part of your lifestyle and not just to achieve your ideal weight goal. Established eating patterns - We often put the blame on our corporate jobs for all our physical and mental issues, but in reality, it’s our imbalanced eating routine that is the cause for most of our health hazards. Eating regularly with intervals of no more than 3 to 4 hours is the way to go. Avoid eating your dinner late at night as intake of carbs leads to a spike in your sugar level which produces unwanted energy before you go off to sleep. Also, fruits should be consumed during the day. Because they digest quickly, you need to consume them 45 minutes prior to your meal and not after it, to retain its nutritional value. Meditation - We often fail to use the full capacity of our lungs during the course of the day.The moment you take a deep breath, you activate a million cells in your body with the life force that is oxygen, which is essential for life. When you meditate after your meal and before going to asleep, you prepare your body to relax. Perform simple breathing exercises that will give you a peaceful 7 hour snooze. Try this for 15 consecutive days to see the change and transition in your sleeping pattern. Sex - This may sound a little unconventional, but when you make love, you produce hormones that relax your body and mind completely. It’s a natural process that will not just help you sleep, but will also help you connect with your partner on an emotional level, preventing additional problems like depression and loneliness. Digital detox – The screens of our laptops and smartphones suppress the creation of melatonin (sleep hormone) produced by our body, disrupting our sleep cycles. Our body starts producing melatonin after the sun sets, but the strong lights released from our gadgets interrupts the process and makes it difficult for us to fall asleep. Keep your gadgets away an hour before you go to sleep and you will see the results for yourself.

Fashion Forward Dubai: All you need to know about this year's edition

Image: Getty Mary Katrantzou’s talk on the appeal of modest dressing The London-based designer was the headlining speaker at FFWD and was in conversation with Ghizlan Guenez, CEO and founder of The Modist—the first global online destination for luxury modest fashion. Katrantzou confirmed that modest dressing is not restricted to this region. “I think modest dressing is democratic,” she said. The designer was also of the opinion that real women are the inspiration for fashion today. “When I was growing up in the ’90s it was the super model that was seen as the role model, now its more fluid,” further adding that social media was instrumental in the shift in perspective. The street style The street fashion at FFWD has always been able to rival that of Milan, Paris or London Fashion Week. But the backdrop of Dubai Design District just put everything onto a new level thanks to the installations and the many Instagram worthy pop-ups—be it the Boomerang Booth or Animated GIF video studio. Add to that, the fact that Halloween is around the corner gave everyone an excuse to get their fierce on. From the bizarre to the beautiful, Fashion Forward Dubai proved that the city knows it style and loves to dress up—and is not scared to embrace the fun side of fashion. Nabil Nayal—the new poster boy for Middle Eastern Fashion For the first time, international designers were included in this home-grown platform. Syrian designer Nabil Nayal is based out of London but the region was quick to claim him. Known to be obsessed with the Elizabethan period, Nayal has shown at Paris Fashion Week where he caught the eye of Karl Lagerfeld. Merging sportswear with love of the Elizabethan influences, the designer showcased a collection in monochrome. Despite the royal roots of his thought process, the collection was powerful yet modern. The large ruffle shirts seen on the runway were so enticing, that every woman in the audience longed to own one. The Saudi trendsetters We saw a few designers show from Saudi Arabia at Fashion Forward Dubai, and two labels, Utruj and Mashael Alrajhi, truly stood out. Utruj’s creative director, Laila Abduljawad is a former jeweller with a design background, and while this is the first time she showed in Dubai, back home her abayas are most working women’s go-to. Made out of sustainable and natural fabrics, these can be worn over a pair of jeans or a little black dress. Mashael Alrajhi is known for always giving a nod to this region’s belief in modest dressing in a very contemporary way. It was her use of texture and drape that really caught the eye, plus a tie up with Nike ensured that everything had a feel of athleisure. Modest dressing can adapt to any style, and that is something Alrajhi has made her mission. A fantastical finale For all ten seasons of FFWD, one label has closed the event and that is Amato, the big ticket show of Fashion Forward Dubai. Amato (which means ‘beloved’ in Italian), is certainly one of the region’s best-loved labels. Designer Furne One teamed with textile expert Rasad Ali to form a label that combines a love of romance with dramatic opulence, that very much works with the sensibilities in this region. The ultra-feminine couture collection was juxtaposed against a set of dark water, stone and gravel. The clothes did seem lighter than usual, with the use of tulle and tone on tone beading in soft pastel hues. The evening wear collection ended on a dramatic note—Dubai is known as the land of dreams and fantasies, and these dresses embodied that vibe.

Sam Smith on being gender fluid: “I feel just as much a woman as I am a man”

Elle Mentors Culture Sam Smith on being gender fluid: “I feel just as much a woman as I am a man” ‘I don’t know what the title would be’ By Mahalia Chang October 30, 2017 SHARE In a new interview with The Sunday Times , singer Sam Smith has opened up about identifying as gender fluid , and not feeling like a cisgender man. “I don’t know what the title would be, but I feel just as much woman as I am man,” the 25-year-old told the publication. Smith also revealed he often buys dresses and heels from Sydney’s famous drag store, House of Priscilla, when he’s in Australia. “Oh, my god, I just buy everything—heels, dresses,” he said. “We have a great time.” Smith continued to say that this is something of a long-standing tradition. “There was one moment in my life where I didn’t own a piece of male clothing, really,” he added. “I would wear full make-up every day in school, eyelashes, leggings with Dr. Martens and huge fur coats, for two and a half years.” Touching on how he felt to come out as gay, Smith noted that he was worried about offending people by revealing his sexuality. “Looking back on it, it was the fear of saying the wrong thing and offending… And I was 19 when I started writing the first album. I’d just moved to London from a village—I was literally the only gay in the village. I didn’t know what I wanted to say."

Deepika's Sabyasachi couture sari took 47 people and 39 days to make Trust Sabyasachi to take couture to the next level By Shweta Gandhi October 30, 2017 SHARE Sabyasachi's zest for craftsmanship and custom couture is well-known to every fashion insider. Take, for instance, the time when the designer customised his Million Flowers showstopper lehenga for Soha Ali Khan's wedding , infusing the ivory and gold colour with kesariya orange, upon the insistence of Soha's mother, Sharmila Tagore. The talented mind has shown his streak of unbridled creativity yet again, this time for the sari that the actress recently wore to the Jio Filmfare Awards Marathi 2017. "I like it when different faculties come together to make a couture garment. This sari involved artists, printers, embroiderers, pattern cutters, draping specialists and skilled tailors," the designer revealed in an Instagram post . "The flora and fauna were hand-painted, printed, embroidered and hand-cut on fine tulle. The organic flow was manipulated by the draftsmen and the embroidery placed by draping on a dress form," he explained. But the ground-breaking fact was this revelation: "It took 47 people, 39 days to finish this garment." That embellished train has all our attention, though. Not only does it give the sari a contemporary update, but it also lends a royal touch. Trust celebrity stylist Shaleena Nathani to step up Deepika's style game. "In my factory in Rajasthan a Bengali babu was putting the final touches to Deepika's earrings, fashioned out of spinel and syndicate uncut diamonds.
