G-Star RAW debuts at Alibaba’s Tmall “See Now Buy Now” fashion show

| Wednesday, 01 November 2017 Dutch designer clothing brand G-Star Raw debuted at Alibaba’s Tmall “See Now Buy Now” fashion show, which aired yesterday at 9 am Eastern Time and featured VanNess Wu. The fashion icon, singer-actor-producer and intimate friend of G-Star RAW partnered once again with the brand after attending the launch of the G-Star Elwood X25 II during New York Fashion Week and was the first to present the brand's limited Tmall Collection 2017. Just ahead of the Global Shopping Festival - formerly known as Singles Day - on 11th November, the second edition of Tmall’s “See Now Buy Now” event, the largest virtual fashion show in China , focused on retail as entertainment, showing off branded fashion and apparel available to buy for Alibaba’s 11.11 Global Shopping Festival, which managed to raise 17.8 billion US dollars in gross merchandise volume last year. “The Tmall Global Fashion Show is a key event that kicks off our 11.11 Global Shopping Festival and one that underscores Tmall’s tremendous growth in the past few years… We expect the event to become a lifestyle trendsetter for Chinese consumers and virtually a ‘fashion week at their fingertips’,” said Chris Tung, chief marketing officer of the Alibaba Group, last year about the event. This year's “See Now Buy Now” fashion show was originally taped live in Shanghai on 20th October and aired on 31st October on seven media platforms, including TV station Beijing TV, smart TV platform CIBN, online video platform Youku, social media platform Weibo, news aggregator Toutiao and the Taobao and Tmall shopping applications. Viewers were able to buy on the spot and apart from G-Star Raw, the event showcased fashion from LVMH’s Guerlain and Rimowa, Estée Lauder’s MAC and SMCP’s Sandro, Maje and Claudie Pierlot, as well as Furla, TAG Heuer, Polo Ralph Lauren and a host of mainstream apparel labels. According to a press release by G-Star Raw, over a hundred million Chinese viewers watched the event on television and the internet, and were introduced to the brand’s exclusive collection, which included a rare handmade patched G-Star Elwood jeans designed by the brand’s co-owner and head of Imagination, Pharrell Williams. The jeans will be released on October 31st in a limited quantity, exclusively through G-Star RAW's official Tmall online store. The rest of the collection will be available to buy for Alibaba’s 11.11 Global Shopping Festival, an event that the country is bracing itself for. The 24-hour event is held annually on 11th November and is considered a benchmark for China’s ongoing swing towards online shopping. But even outside of China, it is hard to ignore the well-orchestrated event: “The real reason to pay attention to 11.11 for those outside of China is that it gives you a glimpse into the future of retail,” said Tung in an interview with Luxury Daily ahead of this year's fashion event. Say goodbye to Hilfiger Denim and hello to Tommy Jeans

| Wednesday, 01 November 2017 London - Fans of Hilfiger Denim may be in for a shock, as their favourite denim label is set to rebrand itself into Tommy Jeans. Tommy Hilfiger, the US-label owned by PVH Corp, has announced the global rebranding of its denim offering starting with its pre-spring 2018 collection. The shift from Hilfiger Denim to Tommy Jeans comes as Tommy Hilfiger continues to evolve its denim offering to align better with the wants and needs of the next generation of consumers. This realignment was recently underlined with the launch of Tommy Hilfiger See Now, Buy Now collection and collaboration with it-model Gigi Hadid. Tommy Hilfiger rebrands Hilfiger Denim as Tommy Jeans “We have built a significant global denim business that celebrates our brand DNA and heritage, and resonates strongly with Tommy fans around the world,” said Avery Baker, Chief Brand Officer Tommy Hilfiger. “There is tremendous momentum around this business, driven by a fresh new product strategy and a new wave of influencers. This transition reflects our commitment to accelerate growth and demand for Tommy Jeans with young millennial and Gen Z consumers globally.” The Tommy Jeans label was recently used in the heritage flag logo-inspired capsule collections from Hilfiger Denim and will now be used across its entire denim business. The new logo, which is said to be inspired by American denim classics with a modern twist, will continue to feature the iconic ‘stretch flag’. In addition, special edition Tommy Jeans heritage capsule collections will continue to be a part of the wider Tommy Jeans label. “Denim has always been a staple at the heart of our classic American cool style,” said Tommy Hilfiger in a statement on the rebranding. “Tommy Jeans celebrates the pieces that put our brand on the fashion map and made it cool. Bringing our original denim label back to the forefront recognizes our long history of celebrating pop culture with inspiring and unique denim styles that our consumers love.” The first collection to launch under the rebrand, pre-spring 2018, celebrated the Tommy Hilfiger denim archives and features a number of iconic pieces with a playful and modern touch. Bachchan, August 2017 Image: Viral Bhayani Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, September 2017 Image: Viral Bhayani Often referred to as one of the best women in the world, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has long held a prime position under the spotlight since the very inception of her career. She made global news by winning the Miss World pageant in 1994. Till this date, those who grew up the ‘90s will never forget the image of Rai Bachchan, ecstatic, holding her blue crown. Things have only looked up for the mega star ever since. Being a world-famous actress means having access to the best of designer wear—from Manish Malhotra to Gucci and Elie Saab, Rai Bachchan’s red carpet style has always left a mark. Film career Aishwarya Rai Bachchan started off with a few modelling stints but made her big film debut in Iruvar (1997). Through her career she has starred in notable films like Aur Pyaar Ho Gaya (1997), Jeans (1998), Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam (1999), Taal (1999), Josh (2000), Mohabbatein (2000), Devdas (2002) Choker Bali (2003), Raincoat (2004), Bride & Prejudice (2004), Bunty Aur Babli (2005), Dhoom 2 (2006), Guru ( 2007), Jodhaa Akbar (2008), The Pink Panther 2 (2009), Raavan (2010) and Guzaarish (2010). The star took a break from acting only to return to the big screen with films like Sarbjit (2016), Ae Dil Hai Mushkil (2016) and is currently working on Fanney Khan . Style files Rai Bachchan has been stepping out in notable looks since the very beginning and rocked both Indian ethnic and contemporary fashion at public events. No stranger to the international red carpets, the star has been a staple at Cannes favouring slinky cocktail dresses, trailing gowns and even saris. In her early days, Rai Bachchan was a fan of luxe satin and beaded designs. In 2007, she was seen with her newly wedded husband Abhishek Bachchan at Cannes which caught eye of the media. In the years that followed, her sense have style has strengthed to a more mature one. Her other notable sartorial choices have been looks by designer labels Elie Saab, Roberto Cavalli, Gucci, Oscar de la Renta, Armani Privé, Ralph & Russo, Manish Malhotra, Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla, Rohit Bal and Sabyasachi. Her ice blue, full-skirted number by Michael Cinco seen at Cannes was one of the most iconic looks seen in 2017. Back home, Rai Bachchan is seen in more tradition choices of kurta sets and normcore basics. The star’s travel wardrobe features athliesure which speaks of comfort when she is sighted at airports with her daughter Aaradhya Bachchan. Style evolution If Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is spotted at an event, its most likely to make news. And while the star has worked high octane glamour with poise and grace, there have been a few looks that were not well received. When the actor stepped out in a Rami Kadi gown sporting purple lips, style watchers were divided in opinion whether the star pulled of the look as intended or not. Similarly, some of her ethnic looks can be underwhelming. It’s safe to say, the star oscillates between extreme glamour to almost everyday basics. However, when Rai Bachchan does decide to make a statement, she ensures the world takes note. As her stylist Aastha Sharma spoke in a recent interview , “Aishwarya has her own personality, she has been an icon for years, she is always appropriately dressed so it’s very easy for me as a stylist. Back home, she favours Indian designers and a more understated sense of style.I don’t have to convince her to do anything—if it’s an international red carpet event we go all out because she is representing a brand and herself—it’s almost a form of art.”

Where are Suhana Khan and Gauri Khan cruising off to with their friends?

Sussanne Khan and Ananya Pandey Image: Viral Bhayani Vikram Phadnis Image: Viral Bhayani November 2 marks Shah Rukh Khan’s 52 nd birthday, and it looks like the celebrations for his big day have already begun. The star’s closest family members and friends were seen out and about today, boarding a private ferry from Mumbai’s Gateway of India. Rumour has it that this year, Khan will be celebrating his birthday at his Alibaug residence, and Gauri Khan has made sure to reach the venue early to help set up for the occasion. Joining her for the mid-week getaway were mother Savita Chhibbar and some of the celebrity interior designer’s closest buddies including Sussanne Khan, Shweta Bachchan Nanda, Maheep Kapoor, Seema Khan, Anu Dewan, Bhavana Pandey and designer Vikram Phadnis too. We also spotted Suhana Khan joining the crew for the trip with her friends Shanaya Kapoor and Anandya Pandey. While Gauri picked a navy blue blouse and a matching skirt for her afternoon by the sea, daughter Suhana opted for an oversized Givenchy tee and shorts. The last time she stepped out this week, it was in a bold gold Monisha Jaising mini dress at Gauri’s Halloween-themed Cirque le Soir celebration . Busy promoting Ittefaq , Shah Rukh hasn’t been spotted out with family over the past few days, but with his birthday just hours away, Bollywood fans can’t wait to see the star (and son AbRam) join his favourite people in Alibaug to celebrate his milestone moment. Just two years ago, Vogue celebrated the Bollywood icon’s 50th birthday with him as our cover star. In his interview, Shah Rukh confessed to several things, from wanting to be Batman to showing respect to people, and why he hasn’t set foot in Hollywood yet. “I’m turning 50. I don’t have a USP. I’m not a Kung Fu fighter. I’m not a great dancer. I’m not the best-looking guy around. At 50, Hollywood has much better actors than me. So unless somebody writes a film with a 50-year-old Indian in the lead… something like The Pianist … or a brown Bond… Until then the chances of Shah Rukh Khan going to Hollywood are slim.” Before we celebrate his latest birthday, get to know the star a little better in here .

These traditional Indian saris deserve a spot in your wardrobe

The sari is eternally graceful and it will always be in style. Whether you’re dressing for a festive puja or a formal soiree, the sari has always been our go-to. But, have you ever thought about the origin of this elegant six-yard staple? Your earliest memories of the sari may be your grandmother’s beautiful Banarasi weaves or your mother’s floral chiffons. However, there’s a vibrant history behind the aesthetics of the sari. The history of the six-yard staple In the olden days, native Indian weavers used their works as a platform to voice their opinions. Every day, they would weave a bit of their lives into their looms. But, when the Muslims came into India, this changed incredibly, especially since they brought the knowledge of Nakshabandi with them. These Muslim weavers were called nakshabands and they reinvented design. Soon, the Indian craftsmen learnt their art and adapted their techniques to saris that were crafted to perfection. Heavy zari work with intricate meenakari designs was highly patronized and popularized. They also used bright hues such as reds, yellows and oranges that was symbolic of Hindu traditions. They also included colours such as dusky pink, emerald green and ferozi blue that originated from Persia. After the British came into India, there was considerable change in the kind of fabrics that were manufactured. Often, the designs lost their intricacies in favour of large wall paper like designs that included inceptions of helicopters, airplanes, garden, house boats, palm trees and more. The period also saw the rise of zari work that was initially imported from Belgium. Coming of age Tantuvi, which stands for weaver in Sanskrit, is an ode to reviving the dying traditional form of weaving. Tantuvi saris is giving a more youthful and contemporary avatar to the six-yard staple, making it more relevant to the woman of today. Tantuvi works closely with weavers to help them with techniques used by their ancestors to produce pieces that are relevant today. Over the last 20 years, they’ve worked with master weavers and have been able to encourage them to weave magic. 1 /7 So, if you’re looking for pieces that you can use and revere, head to Tantuvi now. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan does everything for Aaradhya: Abhishek Bachchan

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan does everything for Aaradhya: Abhishek Bachchan

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is one of the most beautiful women in the world, the original red-carpet queen who blazed the trail for the rest to follow. But she’s more than that. Abhishek Bachchan offers us an insight into her multiple roles as an actor, mother, wife and friend The first time Aishwarya and I met professionally was in 1999, during a photoshoot for Dhaai Akshar Prem Ke (2000). It was our first film together, and I expected a diva. Instead, she was disarmingly wonderful. Over the 17 years that I’ve known her—of which we’ve been married for 10—she has remained grounded. Aishwarya’s been a professional model and actor since the age of 18, and she’s enjoyed every bit of it. In the ’90s, when she was at the peak of her Miss World career and unanimously considered the most beautiful woman on earth, she chose to make her foray into films as an unglamorous girl in Mani Ratnam’s Iruvar (1997). I remember her telling me how, on her first day, she came out with her make-up in place and Mani handed her a bar of soap and said, “Wash it all off.” And she did. Sometimes, it’s difficult for people to give her credit for her craft and see beyond her looks. One of my favourite films together was Guru (2007). She played my character Guru’s wife, Sujata, with such quiet dignity—hers wasn’t the title role but it was a standout performance. Aishwarya is completely invested in her films. Raavan (2010) was an emotionally and physically excruciating film, and she did the Hindi and Tamil versions simultaneously. We were shooting in an area rife with snakes and leeches; every night we would pluck leeches off our arms and legs. She’d be drenched for 12 hours, shivering between takes, but she submitted to what was required of her, which is why directors like Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Mani Ratnam have repeatedly worked with her. When she became a mother her career took a backseat. Today, she does everything for Aaradhya. She is supermom. Soon after Aaradhya was born, the media went at her about her weight gain. Nasty things were written, which really upset me. If that upset her, she said nothing. “Water off a duck’s back,” said Aishwarya when she saw me perturbed. Anyone who knows her would know that she has never spent a day in the gym. The only time was when we were shooting Dhoom 2 (2006), and Uday (Chopra), Hrithik (Roshan) and I dragged her. Till date people refer to her as the most beautiful woman in the world, and I know she is immensely grateful for the love. She values her fans and enjoys the adulation as well as the trappings of her career. Even with the hectic travel schedules and erratic work hours, I’ve never heard her complain about front or back of the plane, Maruti or Mercedes. Her focus isn’t on the trivial. It’s these things that leave me charmed. — As told to Udita Jhunjhunwala, July 2010

The Moschino-inspired bouquet was the most popular Halloween costume

The Moschino-inspired bouquet was the most popular Halloween costume Happy Floraloween By Shweta Gandhi November 1, 2017 SHARE You know when a supermodel like Gigi Hadid pulls off a look, no matter how whimsical and flamboyant it is, it's going to be emulated. But when it's mirrored by people around the globe for Halloween, it makes you stop and wonder — is avant garde fashion the new Halloween costume? Inspired by creative genius Jeremy Scott's Moschino Spring/Summer '18 collection that featured models looking like an extravagant bouquet wrapped up with a bow, this ensemble was ideal for Halloween, because it is undoubtedly scary — to pull off, that is. A post shared by Shahid Kapoor (@shahidkapoor) on Oct 31, 2017 at 10:30pm PDT It may be the first of November but Shahid Kapoor is doing nothing to help the temperature drop. The Padmavati star just dropped the cover of Hello magazine on his Instagram featuring him and his lovely wife Mira, and it's the couple shoot you've been waiting for. The wedding-inspired shoot has Mira in a mint green and pink brocade lehenga, paired with a polki statement necklace and matching bajubandh. Shahid complements his wife in a black bundi with a polki brooch. While this is their first official magazine cover together, Shahid and Mira are used to offering the internet fodder for all those #couplegoals hashtags. Like this photo of the couple that sparked off a series of me-too posts.
