Layers and long sleeves to rock this wedding season

The wedding season is on us. The last few months of the year is synonymous with festivities, shaadis and traditional events. Most prefer to get married during this season to make the most of winter — to avoid the tropical heat, the profuse sweating, and enjoy the designer outfits and flamboyant make-up. While slinky, strappy and sheer blouses will never go out of style in a place like Mumbai, where summer never really ends, November weddings do see a style adaptation. Sartorial statements this season include long sleeves, layers, warm colours and cool fabrics. Here are a few tips you could follow to ace the bridal look... Layers of style Not too fond of the winter chill? Well, make sure that you choose outfits that are not just chic but also keep you snug. Layering works like a dream in times like these and practical, functional clothing will always be in vogue, despite what couturiers and sartorial connoisseurs have to say. Long embroidered jackets over traditional saris, silk stoles on lehengas, heavy dupattas on anarkalis and stylish capes over old-fashioned wedding ensembles can not just make you look like you stepped out of a glossy fashion magazine, but will also keep you warm when you want to be. Statement blouses Blouses play a pivotal role when it comes to deciding your look for the day and making a statement. With brides mostly opting for lehengas or saris, choosing the right blouse becomes important. The latest trend is long, full sleeves and these also bring in an elegance that is hard to miss. Do away with your tacky backless cholis and sheers and opt for sleeves that showcase embellishments and traditional embroidery. Warm colours and traditional silhouettes Bright, warm colours have the ability to perk up any cut or silhouette. Nothing beats a traditional silhouette to make sure that you are the cynosure of all eyes. Anarkalis, lehenga-cholis when paired with striking warm stoles can add a touch of chic. Flaunt this during the sangeet or the cocktail parties too. Silks and velvets Velvets definitely are not new, but are big once again this season. When paired with the right fabrics and treated well, this fabric can really make a statement. Organic silks, handmade textiles, satins, brocades, lame and velvet are great during the wedding season, especially if you are looking for chic glamour. Steal it with the stole Stoles that are embellished and embroidered can bring in chutzpah to most outfits, if carried well. Traditional Indian wear cannot be complete without a stole or a dupatta. Thread work, intricate embroidery, hand-crafted designs on textiles will say a lot about your overall outfit. Show off some elegant embroidery When we talk of bridal wear, we do not necessarily mean gaudy and over-the-top looks. Brides could opt for chic embroidery that has a lot of finesse. Introducing Anupriya Goenka, Shahid Kapoor’s first wife in Padmavati

Having done miniscule roles in the past, Anupriya Goenka recently found her big break in Bollywood as she plays the role of Shahid Kapoor ’s on screen wife in Padmavati . Anupriya essays the character of Rani Nagmati, who is the first wife of Raja Rawal Ratan Singh. Not many people know that Rani Padmini was not the only wife of the Rajput king Rawal Ratan Singh. It seems that Sanjay Leela Bhansali has been trying to maintain quite a bit of authenticity whilst adapting the saga of Padmavati . Anupriya Goenka, who is known for an e-commerce ad in which she played the unconventional role of a lesbian, was introduced in the recent song that was released from the film. The said track titled ‘Ghoomar’ features Anupriya Goenka seated in a royal attire in the palace as she is enjoying the ghoomar dance being performed by Deepika Padukone aka Rani Padmini. However, she was not a part of the trailer that was released a few days ago. Yet another pivotal character who wasn’t a part of the said trailer was Aditi Rao Hydari , who plays the role of Ranveer Singh ’s first wife in the same film. Ranveer Singh essays the role of the tyrant ruler Alauddin Khilji who kills his father-in-law [Aditi’s father] to inherit his throne by marrying Aditi. Padmavati , directed and produced by Sanjay Leela Bhansali , faced several setbacks during its shoot. Despite the hindrances, the film’s release has almost been on schedule as it is slated to release on December 1.

Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt starrer Brahmastra is all set to release in 3D

Brahmastra was announced with much fanfare by Karan Johar on social media. With Ranbir Kapoor in the lead role of a superhero, the film is said to have been inspired from Indian mythology and now we hear that the makers are releasing it in 3D. Karan Johar has time and again maintained that Brahmastra is a trilogy that will follow the story of the protagonist which includes from establishing characters to achieving his goals by defeating the antagonists. From what we hear, the makers have big plans for the film including a lavish budget of Rs. 150 crores. The film will feature Ranbir Kapoor having the superpower of unleashing fire from his palms. While they have asserted that the film will not bear any resemblance to the other Bollywood superhero franchise Krrish , Namit Malhotra, the global CEO of Prime Focus who is currently working on the film, aspires to take it to Hollywood standards. Namit has asserted that they wouldn’t be compromising on the scale since they want to make it in high quality wherein India is able to match up to the Hollywood superhero flicks that gain a lot of acceptance in the country. On the other hand, Malhotra also spoke about releasing the film in 3D wherein he maintained that the film will be shot in a regular manner but the quality of converting it into 3D will be superlative. He also claims that the film will resonate with all age groups from six to 60. Also co-starring Alia Bhatt and Amitabh Bachchan in lead roles, Ayan Mukerji returns with this action superhero drama after the success of his last film Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani [2013]. The film that was supposed to go on floor this year had to face a few delays owing to the actors’ other commitments as well as the heavy VFX that the film demands. Now it has been pushed to early next year. Brahmastra is slated to release on August 15, marking the occasion of Independence Day, in 2019.

EXCLUSIVE: Ajay Devgn takes over 4 theatres, plans to buy 200 more

Ajay Devgn is not merely a superstar who has consistently delivered hits and is an actor of unique class. Ajay is also a trendsetter when it comes to seeking innovations within the film industry and the way it functions. In a Bollywood Hungama exclusive with Faridoon Shahryar, Ajay discloses that he has taken over four cinema halls in Uttar Pradesh and he plans to buy 150-200 theatres in the next three months. “Yes you have no idea of what business films do in China. It crosses worldwide business and the kind of audiences we have, we can do the same thing. And honestly since you have asked this question, I have started taking over theatres which have been shut down in UP. Till the release of Golmaal Again I already have 4. In my 4 theatres Golmaal Again is running. I intend to go to 150-200 theatres, which I’ll do in another 3 months. 800 theatres in UP are shut and there is a population of more than 12 lacs and 25 lacs and there is no theatre. They have to travel 80 KM or so. Why should they travel so much to watch a film. They will travel for a Golmaal or a film which is good but not for a film which isn’t a cinematic experience. Rai Bareilly mein humari picture release hui, I acquired a theatre, there was no theatre there! There are more than 25 lac people, imagine where will they go. If you add all these 25 lac people imagine the population we have who want to watch movies. There is no means of entertainment in our country except for cinema right now. Sitting at home and watching T.V is different. That is convenience. But once in a while you need to get out. Abroad there are so many thing to do, we don’t. People just want to go and watch a movie.”

Secret Superstar to release in China in a month or two - confirms Aamir Khan

Secret Superstar to release in China in a month or two - confirms Aamir Khan

Ever since the overseas market became big in the 90s, Bollywood filmmakers have been in for a treat. After all, it gave a hope that the films could earn more now that there’s an audience outside the Indian subcontinent who consume our films and watch it in theatres in hordes. Then in the last decade, a new overseas market opened up – China. The number of Hindi films released in the neighbouring country is still quite less due to the restrictions placed by the government there. Yet, quite a few Bollywood films have released and done great business. The advantage in China is that it has a large number of screens and crores of moviegoing audiences. For some reason, Aamir Khan ’s films have done the most business in China. It all started with the 2009 blockbuster 3 Idiots that emerged as a huge hit. Then the 2014 alien comedy PK did even better. However, the film that stunned everyone was Dangal , released last year in India. It released in China in May 2017 and collected more than Rs. 1000 crores. What worked was that Aamir Khan had won the trust of the audience and also the topic of Dangal touched the hearts of the viewers. And now, the big question that remains is whether Aamir’s latest film Secret Superstar will also get a release in China? Aamir Khan has a supporting role in the film but the subject of the film, like Dangal , talks about women empowerment and the difficulties faced by girls in achieving success. Hence, Secret Superstar has chances of exceling in Chinese market. At the success bash of Secret Superstar , Aamir Khan was asked to comment on Secret Superstar’s Chinese release. The superstar admitted that a release in the neighbouring country is definitely on the anvil. He said, “The film is all set to release in China in a month or two.” That should definitely benefit the film, especially considering that it has underperformed in India. Secret Superstar had a wide release and had procured almost 45-50% of the shows in major multiplex chains. This is despite its niche content and clash with a biggie like Golmaal Again . In spite of the great reviews, the occupancy of Secret Superstar remained low, prompting Aamir to give away some of the Secret Superstar shows to Golmaal Again . But in terms of cost, Secret Superstar is a winner. On this, Aamir Khan stated, “Box office numbers is one yardstick of gauging a film’s success. In that regard, the collections are double the film’s costs till date. As per industry norms, Secret Superstar will be called a super-hit. Normally, we call a film that recovers its money as a ‘Hit’ film. Numbers are anyways not that important for me. My only concern is that we are able to make profit and recover our investment.” When asked to comment on the overseas business, he said, “ Secret Superstar is doing very well internationally also. The reactions from all over the world are very positive.”

Box Office: Secret Superstar has a decent first week

Box Office: Secret Superstar has a decent first week

Superstar had a decent first week of Rs. 41.50 crore*. The film did start well over its extended weekend but then slowed down over the weekdays, what with collections going lower than Rs. 3 crore during last few days. Had the numbers stayed over the Rs. 4 crore mark right till Thursday, the trending would have come across as much better and that would have indicated a healthy number in the second week too. The film had to fight off the Golmaal Again wave right through and now that both films are in the second week, they are pretty much playing on an equal ground. The films have been allocated screens as per merits, though yet again it is practically these two films that are hogging all the limelight since there is no other notable release. Collections of the Aamir Khan production are exactly on the same lines as Sachin – A Billion Dreams , which was again about chasing dreams. That film was a docudrama and had brought in Rs. 41.20 crore in its first week and now Secret Superstar is in the same zone as well. While Sachin Tendulkar biopic had netted Rs. 50.89 crore in its final run, one looks at Secret Superstar to be concluding in the same range as well. *Estimates. Final numbers awaited

Here’s why the lives of Sourav Ganguly, Yuvraj Singh interest Arjun Kapoor

Here’s why the lives of Sourav Ganguly, Yuvraj Singh interest Arjun Kapoor

It’s raining biopics in Bollywood, especially the sports one. In the last four years, films like Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, Mary Kom, M. S. Dhoni – The Untold Story and Dangal managed to do great business at the ticket window. Paan Singh Tomar , released in 2012, was not exactly a sports biopic, but it succeeded at the box office. Earlier this year, Sachin – A Billion Dreams , which again wasn’t a biopic as such and it became a hit despite being a documentary. Arjun Kapoor has proved his versatility and worth as an actor. He has the stature and built to effectively play a sportsman. So would he be interested to do a sports biopic? This was the question asked to him by a media person at the press conference of ‘Indian Super League’ wherein he was announced as the co-owner of FC Pune City. He said, “Well, so many biopics are being made. I would rather like to do an underdog story. M S Dhoni for me is inspirational and Neeraj Pandey sir did amazing justice to his story. We got a new side of Dhoni. And that’s what’s exciting – when viewers get to see unknown or lesser known aspects of the person. So I don’t exactly whose biopic would exactly excite me. Yuvraj Singh for instance has been an interesting person. His journey and ups and downs are fascinating. Then, Sourav Ganguly could be an interesting topic.” Realizing that the media might make his revelations into a headline, Arjun Kapoor added, “I am not saying that I’ll be doing these biopics. I am simply stating that if biopic covers an entire journey of a sportsman, then it’ll be interesting.” He signed off by telling the journalist, who asked the question, in a lighter vein, “If you have any idea for a sports biopic, do let me know. I’ll love to do it!”
