Scientists have created a machine that makes users trip without drugs

« Previous - Next » Scientists have created a machine that makes users trip without drugs Scientists have designed a machine that is able to give a person a vivid hallucination that is akin to eating magic mushrooms. Sussex University Sackler Centre for Consciousness Science researchers has designed a virtual reality experience, which they have named the Hallucination Machine. They designed it so that they can study how a person’s brain processes the world and how, when it is in a state of consciousness that has been altered, the brain differs from reality, without actually having to give the people taking part any drugs. The scientists used virtual reality headsets to use on the participants and immerse them into what is a version of the “DeepDream” by Google, which has been modified. This is a program that was designed to enhance patterns in images, and they then produced hallucinogenic results, when the students walk through the university campus. Machine Simulated Hallucinations Of People Eating Magic Mushrooms The study involved twelve volunteers who said that they had visual hallucinations that had been similar to people who had taken psychedelics, mostly psilocybin, which is the ingredient that is found in magic mushrooms. The machine can simulate hallucinations in the same way as if eating magic mushrooms. However, it does not give those taking part a skewed sense of time, which is often found when taking psychedelics. The report stated that the investigation into the brain of those on psychedelics is right now in the very early stages. However, the machine does offer a new tool that is powerful and this complements the resurgence of the research into altered states of consciousness. The team has celebrated the use of using virtual reality so as to get a better understanding of the brain and the researchers said that the use of it has only just started. VR In Neuroscience Could Become A Game Changer The co-director of the Sackler Centre, Anil Seth, said that the potential for VR in neuroscience has been huge and it is only just starting. He went on to say that in five years it could be a game changer. Of course, this is not the first time that such technology has been used in studies to change the states of consciousness. Dr. Michael Persinger designed the God Helmet back in 1980 so that researchers could study how the brain of a human experience higher states of consciousness. In April brain scans had been taken of people who had taken the drugs ketamine, LSD and psilocybin and it revealed that they had states of consciousness that were heightened. Related Articles

Fukushima: Japan Wants To Dump A Million Tons Of Contaminated Water In To The Ocean

Fukushima: Japan Wants To Dump A Million Tons Of Contaminated Water In To The Ocean A decision is still not reached on toxic water at Fukushima. The Japanese authorities are still unsure as to how to proceed regarding a million tons of nuclear water which has been held since the primary nuclear power plant in the Japanese city of Fukushima was devastated by a tsunami six years ago. Six years ago, a magnitude nine earthquake rocked the coast of Japan and caused a devastating tsunami which killed eighteen thousand people and brought the Fukushima nuclear power plant into partial meltdown. In the aftermath of the tsunami, radiation was blasted into the air, and huge amounts of radioactive water were expelled by force into the Pacific Ocean. 150 tons per day Thanks to the brave work of dedicated employees at the power plant, some of whom lost their lives as a result of the radioactive contamination inside the plant, the crisis was contained, and the toxic water was prevented from spilling out into the ocean. Instead, it was redirected to 900 large, dense, packed tanks on the site of the power plant. Radioactive water stored in huge tanks These tanks have caused considerable concern for the Japanese authorities as they could very viably spill out uncontrollably if the geographically volatile region were struck by another earthquake or tsunami. The government is under pressure to come up with a solution shortly to prevent a future catastrophe. Time is considered to be of the essence as the volume of radioactive water at the site is growing by an astonishing 150 tons per day. The government has been advised by experts that the best way to handle this troubling situation is to slowly and gradually release the water into the Pacific Ocean following the removal of all radioactive material from the liquid. This will allow experts to control the flow of water and ensure it is released at a safe level which is far preferable to waiting until the tanks breach and the flow cannot be controlled. Robot finds fuel debris in reactor 3 at the Fukushima No 1 power plant While most people appear to be satisfied by the proposed solution, the government are facing frantic lobbying from local fishermen in the Fukushima area. They have pointed out that their business suffered dreadfully as a result of the catastrophe six years ago with 20% of consumers believing that their fish are not safe to eat despite them passing all necessary tests. According to Fumio Haga, a drag net fisherman based in the region around Fukushima, this plan would be a further disaster for their business. “People would shun Fukushima fish again as soon as the water is released, ” he told The Japan Times. Bizarre Theory Says Its Actually The Year 1720 Because The Early Middle Ages Were Faked

Bizarre Theory Says It’s Actually The Year 1720 Because The Early Middle Ages Were Faked Phantom Time Hypothesis: The year is 1720. The creator of the Phantom Time Hypothesis, a German historian named Heribert Illig, states that the Gregorian calendar is false and that humanity is really living in the year 1720. This means that 297 years were ultimately just made up. Heribert Illig believes that three world leaders, Pope Sylvester II, Holy Roman Emperor Otto III, and Byzantine Emperor Constantine VII, got together and forged a new idea about historical events while also falsifying documentation to back it up. Minor changes to history all added up to there being an extra 297 years added that doesn’t really exist. How could this be done? Heribert Illig states that historians have an inefficient way of tracking history. Historians do not have a concrete way of dating medieval artifacts and also have an over-reliance on written history from old documents. When looking back at the history between the years of 614 AD and 911 AD, this appears to be a relatively uneventful time frame. But when looking at events before 614 AD and after 911 AD, much more went on that were historically significant. Also, there exist mathematical discrepancies between the Julian and Gregorian calendars in how they measure a full calendar year. What do other historians think about Phantom Time Hypothesis? Dr. Hans-Ulrich Niemitz published a paper titled ‘Did the Early Middle Ages Really Exist?’ in which he agrees with the hypothesis that approximately 300 years are added to history. Besides this, most of the other historians aren’t very certain of the Phantom Time Hypothesis. The article states, “Countless historians have chosen to argue it have used recorded dates of solar eclipses to do so, along with documented histories from other parts of the world that overlap the “missing” time periods”. Why would someone want to distort history? This is the one key point that seems to be unclear within the article and within the Phantom Time Hypothesis. Why would these three world leaders get together to rewrite history and what do they stand to gain from it? Are they trying to omit or cover up historical events? Did they use any other means of rewriting history other than forging fake documents? These questions remain to be answered within the article. In summary, the Phantom Time Hypothesis raises some good points as to the flaws in the way historians analyze time periods. If they hypothesis isn’t completely true, it has already done some good. The hypothesis has raised some doubt as to whether the early middle ages existed and had some evidence as to why this may be. Overall, more work must be done to further solidify the theory to gain more notoriety among historians. Related Articles

Insane Government Conspiracies: Lizard People, Mind Controlled Clones, and Fairies

Google+ Let’s face it, there have been conspiracy theories around for as long as we have had anything to conspire about. Such ideas have run the gamut from the plausible to the actually true, to the farthest reaches of eyebrow raising insanity. It is an interesting enough phenomenon in its own right that some of the most mind-bogglingly odd theories should catch on and coalesce into the minds of the masses, but some of these really take the cake with regards to sheer, flat out bizarreness. Some of the stranger of these concern evil plots by the the government or even more mysterious forces to infiltrate society and bring the world under control. From nefarious aliens, to secret mind control projects, to vat-grown clones and even supernatural creatures, there seems to be no end to the types of conspiracies that crop up. Here we will look at some of the more surreal, so leave your tinfoil hats at the door, forget about things such as evidence or even common sense, and come with me on a journey down the rabbit hole. The most well-known, pervasive, and flat out bonkers conspiracy theory involving sinister forces invading the United States government is that of all of the alien lizard people who seem to be running around. The theory in essence says that there is a race of shapeshifting, reptilian humanoid creatures that are variously said to be aliens or inter-dimensional beings and which are said to be bent on controlling and subjugating humanity through various insidious means, mostly through infiltrating high level positions ranging from the government, to important corporations, to the entertainment industry. The lizard people have been blamed by conspiracists for everything from major wars, to the Holocaust, to the 9/11 terrorist attacks in New York City, to, well, just about every tragic calamity we have faced for centuries. Although the idea of secret societies lurking in the background secretly controlling civilization is by no means a new one, the idea that these forces should be reptilian lizard people was first popularized by former game show host and sports reporter for the BBC and now conspiracy theorist and New Age philosopher David Icke. In 1991, Icke came out with his complex theory in a BBC interview after percolating and brewing these ideas in his head for years, proclaiming that people in high positions of power or wealth were not who they seemed to be, but rather the lizard people taking human form. According to Icke, it started with a group of aliens he called the Annunaki, from the planet Niburu, and arrived on Earth looking for gold, of all things. In order to mine the gold they found here they genetically engineered human-Annunaki hybrid slaves, which became humans, but some of them further interbred with their masters to become the lizard people. The creatures who were able to preserve a purer reptilian bloodline then rose to power and proceeded to subjugate the rest, instigate wars, feed us poison to keep us compliant, hypnotize us, enact methods to depopulate the planet, and generally manipulate humanity in any way possible, wary of the fact that since humans outnumbered them they could never last in an all out war with us and thus forcing them to work behind the scenes. The list of people who have been accused of being lizard people is quite vast and fascinating. Among their numbers have been said to be such notable figures as Queen Elizabeth II, George W. Bush, Henry Kissinger, Bill and Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, Bob Hope, Mark Zuckerberg, and Justin Beiber, among many, many others. Some of these powerful figures and celebrities have had a bit of a sense of humor about the accusations. For instance, in 2014 New Zealand Prime Minister John Key, who was so suspected of being a lizard person to the point that there was an Official Information Act request filed for the truth, gamely responded to the question of whether he was a reptilian alien thus: To the best of my knowledge, no. Having been asked that question directly, I’ve taken the unusual step of not only seeing a doctor but a vet, and both have confirmed I’m not a reptile. So I’m certainly not a reptile. I’ve never been in a spaceship, never been in outer space, and my tongue’s not overly long, either. Then again, that is what he would say, isn’t it? It is perhaps no surprise that many have scoffed at this idea and labelled Icke as a nutcase, but what is surprising is just how quickly these ideas have entrenched themselves and festered within portions of the conspiracy theorist community. Icke has become a sort of hero and savior among this new movement of reptilian conspiracy theorists, and he has gone on to churn out numerous books on the matter, including The Biggest Secret , in which it is revealed that the British Royal family is absolutely crawling with lizard people, as well as the David Icke Guide to the Global Conspiracy , and there are numerous websites devoted to these ideas, which truly take the whole mythology down the rabbit hole and are at times rather perversely believable in their own way to an extent. Perhaps because of this, unbelievably, nearly 13 million American people, or about 4% of the population, truly believe that there are shapeshifting lizard people among us trying to shape us and control us. If secretive, shadowy plots involving lizard people from outer space are not bizarre enough for you, then how about government created brainwashed servants and clones? Bear with me here, because this one goes deep. The whole theory starts with the dark experiments of the government project MKULTRA, which sought to explore mind controlling techniques and which I have covered here at Mysterious Universe before . Although the program was eventually disbanded, there are those who think that that didn’t really happen at all, and that the experiments continued and the technology was further perfected. The theory goes that the project changed its name to “Monarch,” and went abut conditioning young children through various mental and physical trauma to become virtual blank slates onto which could be programmed pretty much anything the government wanted. These subjects then have identities that are carefully nurtured to make them seem to be powerful figures in society, but in reality they are actually ticking time bombs, sleeper agents waiting to be activated. The theory can most often supposedly be seen in stars or officials who have meltdowns that are explained away as not personal issues, but rather glitches in their programming, and their “rehab” is merely them being taken in to be reprogrammed. The theory is particularly aimed at those in the entertainment industry, where the list of supposed MKULTRA mind-controlled puppets is long. Britney Spears, Miley Cyrus, Katy Perry, Justin Bieber, and many, many others have been accused of being mind-controlled operatives, mostly based on their noticeable personality, appearance, and fashion changes from their younger days. On occasion, it is not a famous person, but rather a normal person brainwashed into committing atrocities, such as is the case with John Lennon’s assassin. What, what? On December 8, 1980, assassin and overall whacko Mark Chapman ruthlessly shot the beloved singer to death outside of Lennon’s apartment. Chapman would go on to allegedly claim that he had been urged to commit the crime by an incessant voice droning on in his head over and over again “do it.” This was only three years after the official closure of MKULTRA, so conspiracy theorists immediately jumped on the case. Evidence presented for this far-out theory was that Chapman had held a copy of the J.D. Salinger novel Catcher in the Rye , onto which was scrawled “This is my statement.” What does this book have to do with any of this? Glad you asked. The book has oddly been linked to a variety of assassinations and shootings, including John Hinckley Jr., who attempted to kill former U.S. president Ronald Reagan, as well as Robert John Bardo, who assassinated the upcoming actress Rebecca Schaeffer, both of whom had copies of Catcher in the Rye . It’s a well-known, popular book, so it should make sense that many people would have it, but no, the conspiracy theory is that it held certain codes and keys for mind control to those who were conditioned to it. In this theory, Chapman was more or less a “Manchurian Candidate” style mind-controlled assassin, just waiting for his orders to kill, and with the book having some inscrutable part to play in it all. John Lennon Well, maybe not everyone here is mind-controlled, maybe they are just cloned from scratch instead. One theory that has made the rounds is that the U.S. government has perfected cloning technology, and has used this to resurrect dead people of power or, more ominously, to replace them. Many of these wild theories can be traced back to the testimony of an individual named Donald Marshall, who in 2011 came forward with an amazing story of having been born and brought up under a secret cloning facility run by an organization he called “The Vril Society.” Marshall claimed that he himself was a clone, and that such secretive cloning centers were buried all over the country. According to him, this all started just after World War II, and the clones bred there were meant to be used for a wide variety of purposes, such as entertainment, infiltration, and back-ups for rich organ donors, and Marshall would claim: The political people started bringing movie stars and musicians there to hang around with them, they can control who remembers the cloning facility and who will remain oblivious even though not remembering still damages you. Marshall continued this astounding story with the claim that the Queen of England and indeed much of the royal family and other were in fact clones and very much into sadistic torture, and said of this in one of his rants: The royal family of England,… yes Queen Elizabeth, Phillip Duke of Edinburgh and Prince Charles are the worst of them, unbelievable depraved perverts all showing off for the celebrities that go there, Elizabeth has the children there call her “lillibet” and does ungodly things to them, some she fakes being nice to, some she is terrible to, cutting them with swords while they scream, the decent people that are there against their will are afraid to say anything against them, most have their children there as a kind of hostage, to be torn apart if they even think of informing anyone, but as they have been torturing me terribly anyway I will tell all, Vladamir Putin loves to put the fear of torture and death into people but is essentially a cowardly pervert himself. Most of the famous people are ashamed to speak or be seen by me there very much,as they’re ashamed of the perverse and disgusting gatherings, I am a decent person and will not participate in these acts, so they use me as an example and torture me for my being a good person. Queen Elizabeth II Wow. No word on what the reptilian lizard men theorists think about all of this. This all launches into the list of people who those who subscribe to this theory think of as cloned goons. Britney Spears pops up here again, as she was in a horrific car accident in 1998 with then boyfriend Justin Timberlake, which supposedly burned Timberlake and killed Spears, after which she was cloned. Marshall himself would go so far as to claim that the cloned Spears was giving hints in her music, with the pods featured in the animated video of her song “Break the Ice” claimed to look exactly like the cloning pods at the facility. Other famous supposed clones include the rappers Eminem, Gucci Mane, and Kayne West, as well the singers Miley Cyrus and of course Britney Spears (wait, I thought she was a mind-controlled puppet!), as well as even Hillary Clinton. Folks, you can’t make this stuff up. Perhaps even more bizarre and insidious than reptilians and clones infiltrating society is the idea that the U.S. government is crawling with fairy folk. As completely off-the-wall as this might sound, there are those out there who think so. One group of New Agers who believe in fairies and claim to regularly commune with them, truly seems to believe that the world, perhaps even the government, is infested with these magical entities. One statement on the group’s website claims: The humans are vastly outnumbered at the Congress by the fairies, devas and other Light beings who are in attendance. How many fairies and devas attend? We are assured it is in the thousands. Fairies and devas of many ranks and sizes attend. Some are similar in size to the small ‘hand-size’ fairies we see represented in the common press. Others are immense beings of great power. Remember though, that size is not necessarily an indicator of knowledge, wisdom or power. The fairy beings who attend the Fairy Congress are fully as intelligent (and often much more so) than the human participants. We approach the fairies and devas with respect and love as co-creators of this event. We are meeting as equal participants. The fairies and devas have a concurrent Congress as well as interacting with the human participants during circles and joint meditations. … It is a rare event for humans to experience so much fairy energy and such an outpouring of fairy/devic blessings. This is all just scratching the surface, and these bizarre theories all go much deeper than this, but here has been an overview of some of the odder ideas out there. There is a lot to take in with all of this and it is often hard to know what to think. I certainly have no desire to disrespect those who fully believe such ideas, but these are certainly confusing, often contradictory opinions which go far towards profoundly pushing the boundaries of what we know with little in the way of convincing evidence. The title of “insane theories” might shift with more to show otherwise, but for now these can undeniably be classified as fringe to say the least. Or maybe we are all wrong. Maybe we are overrun with clones, fairies, and reptilian humanoids bent on our downfall. Perhaps even I am one. You never can tell. YouTube Apologizes For Disturbing Autocomplete Suggestions

« Previous - Next » YouTube Apologizes For Disturbing Autocomplete Suggestions YouTube have to apologize for its autocompleted suggestion when it suggested: “How To Have S*x With Your Kids”. Popular video sharing platform YouTube has been forced to make an apology on Twitter following what has to be the worst case of autocomplete mistakes on Sunday on the platform that is owned by Google. YouTube User Shocked By Autocomplete Suggestion One user made a video grab which showed her searching on the site in the search bar and typing in “how to” while the autocomplete comes up with suggestions. They included “how to tie a tie” and “how to make slime without glue”. However, it was when the user continued to type and included the word “have” which made the sentence “how to have” that the autocomplete gave the option of “how to have s*x with your kids.” A completely random and totally inappropriate thing for the autocomplete to suggest. The user contacted YouTube, and they gave an apology which said “This is an awful autocomplete result and we really appreciate you making us aware. We've removed it and will continue to investigate what caused this!” Related Articles Obama`s Disturbing Announcement! What`s behind it? Not The First Time Google Has Messed Up This is only the latest incident in many in which Google-owned YouTube has messed up in many ways with the video sharing platform. Many big advertisers recently complained and said that they would be suspending advertising campaigns on YouTube after their ads were being shown along with videos that got many millions of views as they show children in situations classed as compromising. Many of the comments associated with the videos in question had been pedophilic in nature. The Wall Street Journal is one company which is among those who suspended their advertising on YouTube, while others include Captain Morgan, Adidas, Mars, and Diageo. Buzzfeed recently reported about the existence of such videos along with the types of views and the comments that they had received and finally attracted global attention. They said that there was a disturbing and vast amount of popular universe of videos among which many were live action videos that showed children in bedclothes. YouTube responded and took many of them down from view and said that the community guidelines would be enforced stricter. Implications then arose that perhaps YouTube was abetting pedophiles by hosting the videos in plain sight. Google Recently Forced To Take Down Content Said To Be Extremist And Related To Terrorism Google had been forced to remove some content that was said to have promoted extremist views and terrorism after content had been left unmonitored for many years. They also came under pressure to monitor and remove content from YouTube Kids. Some were of cartoons that showed animated characters performing what was described as violent and odd acts. The latest issue to hit YouTube is inappropriate to autocomplete suggestions. The growth of the company, along with Facebook and Twitter, is driven by the ethos of supporting freedom of speech; however, it is the same ideology that has attracted trolling and harassment to the platforms along with fringe content. The algorithms have proved to not have much success in ending the problems, and this may point to a scenario that would involve a large amount of human work to effectively watch over the platforms. At the moment none of the platforms have been able to come up with a plan that is well laid out to stop issues such as these from arising, at least none that we have been made aware of. Not all hauntings happen in castles and old buildings. Flats in Lancaster have had their own hauntings, says BARRY McCANN Old buildings are traditionally the site of hauntings, but is it necessarily the structure itself that is haunted, or something from the site it occupies? How many new builds are, to use the phrase, born bad? This seemed certainly the case with a small block of flats built during the 1980s in Lancaster , capital of the Red Rose County. They were erected in the Salt Ayre region of the city which had previously been farmland. Maria and Charles moved into one flat and both began having separate experiences which, at first, they kept from one another thinking it was delusion. Once they decided to confide with each other, they realised the experiences to be real as they were almost identical. A dark shadow like figure had been seen in both the hallway and living room, which moved rapidly once sighted. Maria reported it as a full human shape, whereas Charles saw it only from waist up. But they both agreed the silhouette figure completely blocked out whatever it passed in front of. Psychologists may dismiss this as shared hallucination based on the fact that they were a close couple sharing the same space and, thus, subject to the same conditions that may create similar subjective experience. However there is the collaborative testimony of an outsider in their friend Jane. While visiting the couple one Christmas, the shadow figure passed through the living room and directly in front of Jane who promptly lunged to grab it, her arms closing around thin air. Marie and Charles made enquiries with their neighbours and found the strange experiences where not confined to their flat. One woman reported hearing a child crying in her hallway, while her young son had seen the apparition of a child in his bedroom. Another, who had occupied the flat above with her young family, had seen a shadow figure rapidly move into her kitchen. And one Christmas she found her children’s toys had mysteriously moved as if someone had been playing with them. Then there was Brian, a married man who shared a flat with his family. He also heard a child in his hallway, but this one called out his name. He also sensed it behind the sofa in his living room and, on one occasion, the bathroom door handle rattled of its own accord. Eventually, Brian had a priest come around and bless the place, after which these happenings ceased. However, when Brian moved into an adjacent block of flats, he reported seeing a ghostly figure in his living room mirror. So did a spiritual presence follow Brian? Or is the land where the blocks were built itself haunted? While it had farmland prior to the build, it is possible something else may have stood there in the past. And whatever lingered possibly disturbed by the arrival of the flats on its territory. Given its phenomena has been experienced by several independent witnesses, it is harder to dismiss with rational dismissal. The chances of such similar manifestations being shared by different people in separate spaces are highly unlikely. Unless shared by some telepathic agency, which brings us inescapably back to the paranormal. Lancashire Day, a time to celebrate wonderful monsters, witches and strange legends

Write for us Lancashire Day, a time to celebrate wonderful monsters, witches and strange legends Lancashire Day has been held each year on 27 November, since 1996, to commemorate the day in 1295 when the historic county of Lancashire first sent representatives to Parliament. Guest writer CHRIS NEWTON celebrates Lancashire Day by telling us some of the strangest folktales and legends from Lancashire… The Weirdstone of Brisingamen author Alan Garner, whose works often featured his native Cheshire as the backdrop, once said “I felt it very important that everywhere that I mentioned could be touched … So, I set outlandish stories in real places so that you may say ‘well I don’t believe that happened, but I can show you where it happened.’” Garner’s words struck a chord with me, and reminded me of a Hallowe’en in my childhood when my Dad took me on a ‘Haunted Bike Ride’ around some infamous local sites. Our first port of call was St. Anne’s-on-the-sea, where an unassuming row of houses overlooked the sand dunes. The houses were not important, but the street sign, Kilgrimol Gardens, was. A local tale claims that Kilgrimol was once a priory, which was swallowed up by the sea, but that each New Year’s Eve its bell can still be heard tolling beneath the waves. We then made our way to Kirkham, where I was told how, in 1643 a monstrous child was born of a popish woman who declared “Rather than I shall become a roundhead, or bear a Roundhead, I may bring forth a child without a head.” Before doing just that. Outlandish though the tale may, there is a birth certificate attesting to the existence of this freakish child with “a face on the breast of it”, signed by the local vicar and the midwife, as well as a pamphlet distributed in parliament entitled “A Declaration of a Strange and Wonderfull Monster.” A Declaration of a Strange and Wonderful Monster pamphlet At Chingle Hall , Lancashire’s most haunted building, he showed me a picture of my Mum sat before the fireplace (in the days before I was closed to the public). She is sitting with a friend, smiling, glass raised, but in the background a spectral head appears to float in the chimney breast. We visited the Pirate’s Grave in Poulton-le-Fylde, and Inglewhite village green for the tale of Will-o’-the-wisp. Our final destination has subsequently become one of my favourite places: The small village of Woodplumpton. The Witch’s Grave in Woodplumpton, Lancashire. Whilst I’m quoting authors, Neil Gaiman once wrote that “the best thing about the graveyard in the Sussex town in which I grew up is that there was a witch buried in the graveyard.” His disappointment in learning that was not quite the case inspired his story ‘The Witch’s headstone’. There is no such disappointment in Woodplumpton, where, in the graveyard of St. Anne’s church, a large boulder marks the resting place of Meg Shelton, The Fylde Witch . According to legend, Meg repeatedly rose from the grave, and was eventually buried upside down, the boulder placed over her resting place to prevent her escape. A visit to the local pub, The Wheatsheaf will give you further information on Meg and her shapeshifting antics, as well as being home to a reputedly haunted fireplace. A close up of the plaque on the Witch’s Grave in Woodplumpton, Lancashire. I love horror. I love the supernatural. I love folklore. Specifically, the folklore of Lancashire. It would be easy to assume that I am drawn to my home county’s legends because of my fascination with the supernatural, when the reverse is true. There is witchcraft in my blood, and I am drawn to it almost magnetically. Before Hammer and Dennis Wheatley, Doctor Who was my gateway drug to Horror. Specifically, the Third Doctor serial, The Daemons, in which Damaris Hayman plays Olive Hawthorne, the ‘White Witch of Devil’s End’. I recently read an interview with Hayman, and was not remotely surprised when she said “I’d always been interested in the supernatural and witchcraft. As a child I lived in Lancashire, in the shadow of Pendle Hill .” For the people of Lancashire, these tales have woven themselves into the fabric of our identity. You might not believe they happened, but we can show you where they happened. You can read other spooky articles about Lancashire to celebrate Lancashire Day here . CHRIS NEWTON is the singer and lyricist of the Blackpool-based punk band Dischord , renowned in the UK scene for their elaborate albums and energetic live performances. Their latest album ‘War Or Peace’ was described by Musically Fresh as ‘beautifully crafted and lyrically untouchable’. Chris’ writing credits include the black comedy novels ‘Life Begins at 40’ and its sequel ‘Behind The Sofa’, co-written with Mark Charlesworth. His ghost story ‘Grim’ was featured in The Crowvus Christmas Spirit anthology. Chris has been obsessed by witches, ghosts and all things supernatural ever since he was a boy. Massive hornet's nest removed in new video Posted on Monday, 27 November, 2017 | 8 comments It's not a job for the feint of heart. Image Credit: YouTube / Stinger Creations Louisiana exterminator Jude Verret was called out recently to remove a truly monstrous nest of hornets. In the footage, the troublesome swarm of insects, which had set up home inside a pile of junk being stored in a shed, can be heard pelting the camera over and over as Verret gets to work. The nest itself, which resembled a mass of dirt and cardboard, was around the size of a refrigerator. Describing it as "the granddaddy of hornet's nests," the veteran exterminator seemed to make light work of the monumental task of removing it as the swarm of hornets buzzed around him. All in all it took him a mere 45 minutes to completely remove the nest from the property. Source: National Geographic | Comments (8) Tags: Hornets

Wild beast steals weapons from frightened hunter before vanishing into the remote taiga. The brown bear brazenly walked into a remote forest cabin, and helped itself to the man's bag plus two guns, say police. The animal turned the tables on the 57 year old hunter when he went to a nearby river to get water deep in Irkutsk region. 'On November 16 he was hunting miles away from the nearest village and decided to stay at a forest cabin,' said a statement from the local interior ministry. 'He left his belongings in the cabin and went to get some water. On his return, he heard some suspicious sounds and spotted a bear. 'To avoid an encounter with the animal, the hunter scurried off into the woods where he hid for several hours.' When he returned to the remote cabin, his bag and two guns were missing. The hunter went to look for his weapons in the taiga for several days but returned empty-handed. This then prompted him to contact the police. It was dark and there were clouds in the sky, out of my passenger window (north) a bright white light in the clouds caught my attention. It came down through the clouds rapidly, and there was a hole in the clouds where it came through, like it pierced the clouds and left a hole. Then it seemed to maintain that altitude for a second or two, not long enough to say that it was hovering because it started to move southward after it came down. It kind of came down, paused a second and started moving south. There was a glowing trail where it came down through the clouds. The object appeared black and round, I could only see the shape against the clouds above it, so I don't know for sure if it was actually black or not but it was definitely round. It had 2x visible lights, steady lights no pulsing no blinking. The object started moving south from my passenger side across the driver's side of the car. It was no longer leaving a trail and the lights began blinking as it was passing over, which made me think maybe it was a plane. But then it suddenly shot back north, back to where it had come down through the clouds, and the 2x lights got much brighter when that happened. Then it changed direction again and started heading back south again, at that point the 2x lights went to 1x solid bright white light, there was no more blinking, then it just shot off southward crazy crazy fast, and I lost sight of it. It was completely gone in under a second. Much too fast to have been a plane or drone I think? After it was out of sight I noticed the glowing trail where it came through the clouds was still there and still glowing. It did not leave any other trail at all, just where it came through the clouds. It is possible that moon light may have been shining through the spot where it came through the clouds? But it really didn't look like that, it looked more like a glow, which faded away after about 2-minutes. I didn't hear any noise, didn't see any other planes in the sky, just a strange object that shifted direction rapidly and then took off crazy fast. Gotta say the glow it left in the clouds was creepy, it was like a whitish golden glow. The clock in the car said 7:20pm but I think out of habit I looked at my watch, it is a digital battery powered watch (Casio) and it was completely dead, no display on it at all. I have no idea if that has anything to do with the object or not? But I found it odd that it died at that moment. I had checked my watch when I left my brother's house at 7pm and again when I crossed over Rt. 234, which was only a couple minutes before I saw the object, so the watch was definitely working, and now it's definitely dead. Nothing else appears to have been affected, just the watch. May not be related at all. I'm pretty sure our current flight technologies can't replicate what I saw? The sighting was on Rt. 94 heading north past Rt. 234 before it meets up with I-15 north. My initial feeling upon seeing it was curiosity, trying to figure out what could pierce clouds like that. Then when I saw the blinking lights I thought it was just a plane, but then it totally changed direction and shot northward again, and the lights changed, my exact words were "what the Hell is that"? When the light got brighter and it shot off southward I was actually feeling a bit tense, not quite fear, just a bit tense. I had a 90-minute drive to get home and I spent the entire drive trying to come up with explanations, and I can't think of anything at all to explain what I saw. So I classified it as unidentified. When I got home I looked up your web site and filed this report. I hope this helps. I hope I've provided you with enough details. - MUFON NOTE: This apparently occurred near me...in the direction of Hampton, PA. I have been told by a few local witnesses that there have been a series of UFO sightings around York / Adams County Pa. in the past few weeks, though this is the first actual report I've seen. Lon Observed by Alien Entities Lompoc, CA - 2013-09-29: I have been dealing with these entities for the last 5 years. I've been doing my best to get proof of who and what they are. hey have been talking to me none stop for these last years. I've gotten ionized radiation readings along with non-ionized readings around my body when I finally broke down to pay some money to buy what I could afford in equipment. Sadly they don't show up in FLIR however they seem to affect it. I've even taken brainwave readings of myself that are rather irregular. - MUFON Thanksgiving 'Close Encounter' Gallant, Alabama - 2017-11-23: I was awoke at 4am to find myself unable to move in my bed. There was a curved screen floating above my head. The screen appeared to have no mass as there was no edges of the screen. The screen was translucent and I could see through it. Small images would blink on the screen every 1/2 a second. Each time the image appeared it would be the same image displayed on the screen a hundred images at the same time. I didn’t recognize any of the symbols as being known to me. I then peered through the screen and saw two dark figures. They were standing in opposite corners of my room at the foot of my bed. The figures were no more than four foot tall and were covered in a shroud of shifting darkness/shadow. I felt a sense of fear come over me. It was dire fear. I remember looking over at my dog who was sleeping on my bed with me and feeling upset that the dog was still sleeping and not barking at the intruders or try to help me. I then yelled at the two intruders and told them, “Hell no! I’m not allowing it" and I told them they had to leave immediately. I couldn’t make out any facial features but could see one of the intruders turn it’s head to the other one as if it was in shock of the fact that I had ordered them to leave. The blackness/ shroud around them appeared to move rapidly or shimmer as much as black fog can shimmer and then they were gone. Immediately I had control of my body and could move again. I jumped up and turned the lights on and searched the room for the entities. I didn’t find anything. I was visibly shaken by the experience and it took me a few minutes to calm down and stop my body from shaking. I looked at the clock when I jumped out of bed and it said 4:30 am. I remember being upset because I had to get up at 8:00am to get the turkey ready to go in the oven for Thanksgiving - MUFON Return of an Apex Predator WISDOM, Mont. – Dean Peterson, a rangy fourth-generation rancher with a handlebar mustache, is used to factoring in all sorts of challenges as he works his vast spread in the Big Hole Valley. Summer wildfires that can sweep down the pine-blanketed mountains to the west, harsh winters that can endanger his thousand-plus head of cattle. Yet in the back of his mind these days is a threat most of his forefathers never faced: grizzly bears. Settlers pushing West had all but exterminated the hulking predators by the time Peterson's great-grandfather arrived here in the late 1800s. A year ago, however, a trail camera in the nearby forest snapped a grainy photo of a grizzly crossing a stream, marking the first confirmed sighting in the valley in a century. Then in May, Peterson was stunned to see one lope across a snow-dusted road as he drove a four-wheeler a few miles from his property. "It will happen," the 51-year-old rancher says of the looming presence of grizzlies. And he is equally matter of fact about what they'll mean for both him and his neighbors. "It will be more difficult to run cattle." Read more at Yellowstone’s grizzly population rebounds, creating challenges and fears

‘Mystery Animal’ Sought in Horrific Sheep Mutilations

Google+ Farmers in the Niali district of India are reporting a series of horrific sheep mutilations that has seen five sheep killed in three separate villages this week. All of the sheep were found eviscerated with their livers almost surgically removed through their abdomens. Unidentified footprints have been found near the scenes of the crimes, reports local news outlet Kalinga TV, but the identity of the animal (or whatever) responsible is still unknown. These new mutilations bring this month’s death toll to close to thirty sheep. Some of the most recent victims. It seems something has developed a taste for sheep in the rural Niali region of India. Over the last few months, hundreds of sheep have been brutally slain and mutilated despite the best efforts of forest officials and local wildlife experts. The culprit has never been caught, much less identified. Local shepherd Nilamani Das told Times of India that sheep farmers in the area are terrified by the unexplained killings which follow the pattern of a series of mutilations earlier this year: We sustained huge losses after our sheep were killed by unknown animal in June. We were not compensated also. With much difficulty we started our lives again and see the predator has come again to haunt us. Forest officials, meanwhile, are clueless, replying only with “We are trying our best to catch the killer animal.” Sheep farmers have taken to guarding their flocks at night and even sleeping among the animals to protect them from whatever could lurk in the shadows. It’s been a bad year to be a sheep. While these killings sound awfully reminiscent of many mythological creatures like the Chupacabra, the animal’s identity and motivation is likely a much sadder tale. Changing climate patterns and continued human population growth have pushed many once-elusive animals into direct contact with humans. Unfortunately, this growth has meant bringing our livestock directly to these predators whose once plentiful prey and habitat are now long gone. Sure, maybe it’s a horrible nightmarish beast. But maybe, though, the creature is us. Maybe we are the nightmarish beast, bumbling our way towards causing a mass extinction with our insatiable growth. Until the killer in Niali is caught, there’s no telling for sure what might be prowling in the darkness. Brett Tingley is a writer and musician living in the ancient Appalachian mountains. New Amelia Earhart Evidence Says She Was Executed … and More

Google+ The mysterious disappearance of aviator Amelia Earhart and her navigator Fred Noonan in 1937 has baffled searchers for 80 years and 2017 was no exception. Earlier this year, a History Channel special on a photograph that showed two people who resembled Earhart and Noonan alive on a dock on a Pacific island was discredited when the photo was found in a Japanese picture book dated two years before their flight. Then just this month, a story circulated that their plane crashed and their remains were never found because they were eaten by giant coconut crabs . Now, an old theory on their disappearance has been given a new twist. In that same History Channel special , it was mentioned that some experts suspect the pair survived a crash landing only to be captured by Japanese forces, imprisoned on the island of Saipan and eventually executed. That theory was recently reinforced by Guam resident William “Bill” Sablan, who claims his uncle, Tun Akin Tuho, once told him about working at the prison where the pair was held. According to Pacific News Daily , in 1971 Sablan’s uncle described to him an American woman and man who were brought to the island prison. He was told their crashed plane was disposed of in the ocean. After a few days, he learned that they were killed. Sablan theorizes that the pre-war Japanese government wanted to keep the discovery and the executions quiet, so the bodies and the story were buried in Saipan. Then what? That’s when this tale takes a sinister twist. Sablan claims he investigated the cover-up further and discovered something new: “… after the war was over, their bodies were exhumed by an American military branch and shipped back to the United States. Now where those bodies are now is somebody’s own question to answer.” While some researchers suspected that Earhart and Noonan were captured and executed, the fact that the U.S. knew about it and exhumed the remains is apparently a new and horrifying theory. Sablan implies that the U.S. kept all of this quiet to avoid its own controversy with Japan after the war. Is Bill Sablan telling the truth? Was his uncle, Tun Akin Tuho, really a witness to the imprisonment and possible executions of Amelia Earhart and Fred Noonan? Would the U.S. government really cover up the incident and the recovery of their remains? Did they at least tell their relatives? If all of this is true, is there any reason for either government not to admit it today?
