Never Before Seen Bacteria Growing on Outside of Space Station

Google+ “And now it turns out that somehow these swabs reveal bacteria that were absent during the launch of the ISS module. That is, they have come from outer space and settled along the external surface.” While the rest of humanity is looking on solar system moons and faraway exoplanets for signs of extraterrestrial life, a Russian cosmonaut revealed that he has already found it and it’s closer than you think – on the outside of the International Space Station. Are we analyzing it … or vice versa? In an interview with TASS (yes, the Russian media let this alien cat out of the bag, NASA), cosmonaut Anton Shkaplerov , busy preparing for his third trip to the International Space Station on December 17th, revealed that during his previous 365 days in space he encountered what he describes as life that was not brought to the ISS by humans or floated up on its own but has “come from outer space.” Shkaplerov explained that he and other cosmonauts out on spacewalks used sterile cotton swabs to collect samples from the outer skin of the space station, especially from remote and obscure places where other spacewalkers haven’t looked before (hear that, NASA?). Wow. How did they determine that what they swabbed was some sort of alien bacteria? “After that, the samples were sent back to Earth.” Ahhhh! Really? “They are being studied so far and it seems that they pose no danger.” Key words in cosmonaut Shkaplerov’s statement: “so far” and “it seems.” Yes, bacteria samples have been found on the outside of the ISS before – that’s how researchers found terrestrial bacteria that reached space via some sort of ionospheric lift and survived the vacuum and severe temperature shifts of space for years. They’ve also studied microorganisms inside the ISS and observed that space can cause them to mysteriously shape-shift, making them hardier. According to Dr. Luis Zea , one of the researchers: “We knew bacteria behave differently in space and that it takes higher concentrations of antibiotics to kill them.” All the more reason to keep them in space rather than on Earth, right? Too late. Why hasn’t NASA said anything about this? Does it know all about the alleged alien bacteria and was planning to keep it quiet? There are American and international astronauts onboard the ISS and Cosmonaut Shkaplerov himself worked at the Johnson Space Center in Houston from April–October 2007 as Director of Operations for the Russian Space Agency. Now he’s returning to the space station with NASA astronaut Scott Tingle and Norishige Kanai of JAXA (Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency). What will Shkaplerov be looking for on this mission? Is he taking bigger cotton swabs? Stronger antibiotics? Petri dishes with tougher locks? Phasers? A Mysterious Stone, Ancient Seafaring Mysteries, and Sir Isaac Newton

A Mysterious Stone, Ancient Seafaring Mysteries, and Sir Isaac Newton

Google+ Early human civilizations built stone temples in Malta over 5,000 years ago which today remain some of the oldest existing free-standing structures in the world. The enigmatic Tal-Qadi Stone was discovered in 1927 at Tal-Qadi, one such megalithic temple in Malta. The Tal-Qadi stone is a broken shard of limestone measuring 29cm by 23.5cm and 5cm deep but is believed to have once been part of a larger circular piece, with this shard adjoining the center. The face of the shard is divided into five radial segments, into four of which are etched seven-pointed stars in various constellations. It is believed that the larger piece would have had these segments circling its entire face. While most archaeologists who have studied it agree it was likely a star map or moon calendar, its rather ambiguous design and incompletion make it difficult to definitively identify. The Tal-Qadi stone remains an archaeological enigma. However, there are some researchers who believe the Tal-Qadi stone actually depicts an an early form of the Zodiac constellations of Scorpio, Virgo and Leo. At the forefront is Dr. Kai Helge Wirth, a geographer and “art scientist” who has self-published several works on the Tal-Qadi stone. In a recent publication, Wirth claims that the Tal-Qadi stone is actually the world’s earliest representation of the Zodiac and could prove that early civilizations had contact with one another long before generally believed to have done so. The stone is believed to have been part of a larger circular object. Wirth’s work is based in a large part on a lesser-known Sir Isaac Newton work titled The Chronology of Ancient Kingdoms Amended which ties the histories of European civilizations to Greek myths and astrology. In it, Newton claims that the shapes of the Zodiac constellations corresponded to the topography of different shorelines around the world. These constellations were “projected” onto the stars by early sailors, Newton claims, in order to help them navigate. The book today is grouped with Newton’s “occult studies,” a bizarre collection of pseudo scientific or mystical studies conducted by the astronomer, mathematician, and theologian. To test Newton’s theory, Wirth and a colleague will set sail on an early Phoenician boat and attempt to navigate the Mediterranean Sea using only a replica of the Tal-Qadi stone. Tal-Qadi temple outside of Naxxar, Malta. Could this stone be proof of Newton’s ‘occult’ belief that the signs of the Zodiac represent ancient sailors’ knowledge of shorelines? It’s a pretty fascinating theory, and if proven true could revolutionize our understanding of human history. Whatever the case may be, objects like the Tal-Qadi stone show that symbols like the Zodiac signs get passed down throughout history for a reason. While we might forget their meanings, preserving them keeps us connected to the long, sometimes hidden history of the human world. Who knows what secrets may lie both deep in our collective unconscious and out in the open in long-forgotten symbols? “Britain’s Roswell” to Receive Full Hollywood Makeover

Google+ During the past three-and-a-half decades, Britain’s most famous/notorious UFO case has been the subject of numerous books , articles and documentaries . It has also generated some of the most fierce and downright nasty feuds the UFO field has ever known. We are, of course, referring to the Rendlesham Forest incident, in which US military personnel bore witness to baffling events just outside of RAF Woodbridge near Rendlesham Forest, Suffolk, on the nights of December 26 and 28, 1980. Despite having embedded itself firmly into UFO lore and having made the occasional dent in official culture as tabloid fodder, those Rendlesham UFOs—whatever they were—never managed to plant their landing gear fully into our pop-cultural landscape. That may be about to change, however. According to The Hollywood Reporter , Sony Pictures Television has teamed up with UK-based Eleventh Hour Films for Rendlesham , a major new TV drama based on the UFO incident(s). Joe Ahearne. The show is to be helmed by award-winning writer/director Joe Ahearne ( Doctor Who ). Co-producer Eve Gutierrez told the Hollywood Reporter : “Joe is a master story-teller with a long-standing fascination for science-fiction so we were totally thrilled when the Rendlesham story sparked for him… Now, working with Sony Pictures Television, we are looking forward to bringing this timely, other-worldly story to the global market.” President of international production at Sony Pictures Television, Wayne Garvie, added: “The Cold War, Cruise Missiles, UFOs—Joe is taking extraordinary tales and giving them even more compelling twists. As a local lad, I can’t wait to see him bring his vision of Suffolk to the world.” Ahearne himself remarked: “When Eleventh Hour Films drew my attention to this extraordinary piece of British and American history it pressed all my buttons and I think it will do the same for a wide audience.” It sounds like an ambitious project, and its source material is ripe for serious dramatic treatment. Could Rendlesham be the production that finally does justice to the mysterious events of those two fantastical nights in the harsh English winter of 1980, or will this sci-fi dramatization serve to further blur the boundaries between fact and fantasy in the popular consciousness? Either way, “Britain’s Roswell” is now set to receive it’s full Hollywood makeover and to join its iconic American cousin in the global spotlight. Extremely Bizarre Encounters with Truly Surreal Mystery Humanoids

Google+ When looking at sightings reports of strange creatures and mysterious entities every so once in a while one comes across something that just seems to exist out in its own sphere of bizarreness, something so incredibly odd that it falls outside of any known category and which leaves us utterly baffled. I have covered extremely bizarre cryptids of all shapes and sizes here at Mysterious Universe before, on more than one occasion in fact, as well as very unusual entities that are thought to be aliens, but at other times there is just no real classification to put some reports in, and it is not immediately clear if we are supposed to be dealing with a mystery animal, a ghost, a demon, an inter dimensional being, or what. These cases swirl about there on the outer edges of strangeness, seeming to defy us and challenge us to try and make sense of them. Here I bring you a selection of truly out there reports concerning humanoid creatures that lie squarely entrenched in the realm of the truly unexplained. From deer-headed men, to bizarre stick figures, to other less definable things and more, here are some of the weirdest. One very odd humanoid creature of some sort that has been reported is what appears to be some sort of deer men, with various truly bizarre sightings of such creatures from all over the United States. One account was made in northeast Ohio by a witness who claims that he was at his cousin’s house playing hide and seek outside one day when he was 14 years old. It was reportedly around dusk, and they were playing near a wooded creek when it was the witnesses turn to search, and as he did he claims that he heard the sound of leaves crackling under foot. He turned to look expecting to see his cousin, but instead saw a deer through the brush that appeared to be oddly standing up on its hind legs, unusual for a deer but which would prove to be even stranger than that. The report reads: It was getting dark and I was the one searching. I heard leaves crumpling, and when I turned to look, I saw what looked like a deer on its hind legs. I clearly remember seeing “dog legs” running, but the rest of the body was straight up. And it ran with incredible speed, and I knew it wasn’t either of my cousins hiding. I ran as fast as I could back to the house, and my one of my cousins was running in too, he saw the same thing. It still creeps me out to this day, because my uncle always told us how he saw weird things on that property. A sighting of a similar creature that appears to have also had the ability of shapeshifting was made in the state of Delaware in 1993. The witness claims that he was around 8 years old at the time and he had been staying with his family at his grandparents’ house in a rural, forested area near the town of Hockessin. One morning he says he woke to a clear day with the sun shining in through the window and also the surreal sight of the silhouette of a deer with a huge rack of antlers standing just outside. Things would get bizarre rapidly, and the witness says of what happened next thus: It was RIGHT there, like almost pressed against the window in profile. I stared in awe. And that is when it changed. In one smooth movement, it reared up on its hind legs and it was no longer a deer, but a man. There were only two men in the area, my grandfather and my dad, and it was clearly neither (not sure if that made it better or worse). Grandfather was very built for his age, dad had a gut. This silhouette was clearly younger, muscular but not in the “like a brick” way my grandfather was. It exuded strength. And scared the hell out of me. It stared to the side for a moment, and then strode off with purpose. Looking back, I want to tell myself it was just the imagination of a half-awake child, but I remember the awe and the utter fear I felt when the “deer” changed. Yet another Deer Man sighting was made as recently as 2012, in the Wichita Mountains of Oklahoma. In this account, a Kyle Heying claims that he was out at the Wichita Mountains National Wildlife Refuge in order to take photographs of the night sky there with a friend. On this evening at around 10 PM, the usual sounds of the forest suddenly became muted and the local wildlife started to display some decidedly bizarre and uncharacteristic behavior. First some elk came running by and then a herd of bison, which all came uncomfortably close before hurrying off, and it seemed almost as if these animals were trying to get away from something scaring them out in the dark forest beyond. This was enough to spook the men into packing up their stuff and calling it a night, and as they did they allegedly felt a strange change in air pressure and all of the sounds of the woods just stopped to send a profound silence crashing down upon them. The two unsettled men then heard something rustling about out in some tall grass nearby, jarring in the otherwise void of silence that had blanketed the area, and it seemed like whatever it was was coming towards them. Heying claims that he and his friends had then picked up some rifles they had with them, wary of what was apparently approaching. They started the car and began to drive off when they saw something step out in front of the vehicle that they would never forget, a creature which Heying described as having a head like an elk but which stood upright on two human legs and which had two human arms and “dark red” eyes. As they passed it, the nightmarish creature lurched forward to hit the car, and Heying floored it away as fast as the vehicle would go until they were about 3 miles away, where they stopped their flight to regain their wits. Heying would say of what happened next thus: We were scared shitless. Things got even quieter when we stayed there. While there we heard one ear-piercing screech or scream, almost a hunting screech of some sort that made my hair stand on end and gave me goose bumps even worse. With that we left the mountains completely, we felt as though we were not wanted there that night. The way the wildlife acted, the figure that we came across that the animals had to have ran from, and then the scream of which I can only find references to happens to be the Banshee. I cannot forget that figure we saw, as well as the scream. It was not human but it was not of any wildlife I am familiar with from out there. What in the world could possibly account for what these witnesses saw? Just what kind of creature could these things possibly be and are any of these accounts connected in any way? No one knows. Deer men are not even the strangest of humanoid creatures to have been reported, and we’re just getting started. In summer of 2012 there was a head-scratching sighting near Washington Park, near Michigan City, Indiana, that is really hard to classify. The witness claims that she had been staying at the beach house of a friend by Lake Michigan and that there had been a lightning storm at the time. At around 2 AM some of them went outside to smoke and watch the lightning, and that was when they noticed the beam of a flashlight scanning the tall grass by the shore nearby as if searching for something. Thinking this to be a bit odd, the group of friends watched on and saw that the beam had captured an elongated, grayish humanoid looking creature stretched out on the beach, and the witness would say: The light sweeps by something in the grass, then it shines back onto it. What was illuminated was very strange. It appeared to be a naked guy crawling around on the grass. Although, it had elongated arms and legs. It was moving kinda fast crunched over. It only lasted a few seconds, long enough for all of us to see it. Then, after the thing ran off, the flashlight shines directly at us. It stayed pointing at us until it went out after a few seconds. Creepy. So, we’re all like WTF was that, we asked what each other saw. We all seen a weird stretched out naked guy. The only explainable thing it could have possibly been was a drunk gangly naked guy. But, I don’t think so because it looked abnormally stretched, the light pointed at us, and it freaked everyone out. It was something strange. I can’t say what the height of it was accurately, maybe around 7ft tall. My husband said it looked like something from a Marilyn Manson music video.I wanted to go down there. I wanted to see if we could find it. But, no one would go and they were creeped out and wanted to go back inside. What on earth was the outlandish thing they saw? What was with that flashlight and why did it train itself on the observers of this surreal scene? Who knows? In August of 2017 there was a series of sightings of a very strange humanoid figure on a farm near Boca Raton, Florida. The witness, who originally posted his experience on Reddit, says that on the 14th he saw something very unusual one evening at dusk as he was eating dinner and staring out over the property, which he would continue to see for the next two nights as well. He said that a very tall, grey colored humanoid that looked like the character “Gumby” lurched out of the tree line, took a few steps, and then went back into the forest lining the property. The witness says: It was flat but its legs bended in a way that looked like a plank bending. Like how a piece of wood bows when weight is put on it but springs back up when the weight is taken off. Its body, from where I could see it, was rigid. It didn’t look flexible aside from the legs and the limbs were fairly wide The next night, at the same time, the same exact thing happened except my parents were with me. It walked on two legs but it was more like lunges or arching steps than human walking. I asked them if they saw that and they just said “saw what?” Then it happened AGAIN the third night. So either my body is giving me random hallucinations in sync with my body’s time clock or there’s some weird Slendergumby demon living on the farm behind my house. I haven’t been home much recently so I haven’t been able to look for it again but if I’m able to. I haven’t seen whatever it was since those three times and was unable to get a photo of it due to how far away it was. This was in the middle of a very populated city so seeing something this outlandish in a human heavy area was quite strange. If none of these are weird enough for you, then how about the disturbing number of reports of stick figures seen lurking in rural and deserted areas of the world? When I say stick figure I don’t mean simply something that is elongated and thin, but rather literally a stick figure, as if something a child might draw. This is what some people have apparently been sighting since at least 2008, and they are deeply bizarre to say the least. The Stick Figures are typically described as just that, tall and extremely thin dark beings with no discernible facial features and which move smoothly and fluidly, with some reports saying that they do not change dimensions no matter what angle they are observed from, as if they are actually 2D constructs, and others mentioning air pressure changes, static electricity, and a feeling of malevolence in their presence. The tales of these creatures certainly have an urban legend vibe to them, but are nevertheless numerous enough across the Internet to deserve mention. One early account from a man named Simon Howes seems to originate from all the way back in 1982, when a witness says he was studying to be a nurse at Warley Hospital, Brentwood in Essex, England, where he saw what can only be described as a stick figure while he was walking home one night. The witness says: I encountered a ‘stick person’ in the grounds of the Hospital as I was walking home one night. It lopped across the roadway having been, seemingly, pressed up against a wall. It stopped when it saw me and raised it’s arms in fright and quickly walked off into the undergrowth. It was very tall with very thin, extremely long arms and legs and a very small oval head. Totally black and no obvious clothing. I saw no face even though it emerged very near a street lamp and so was well illuminated. I was terrified and to this day, no-one believes me. Another such report comes from a witness named Damien Castellione, who claims that his sister and cousin saw one of the creatures when she was a kid at their aunt’s funeral. The witness says: You know my sister told me that she saw a stick man too when she was a kid. back then it was our aunt’s funeral and she was sitting outside the funeral when she noticed a strange “stick like person” walking back and forth above the electric wiring of the pole in front of the funeral that is (she is more or less 10 walking distance away from the pole). She got really frightened and she told our cousin to look at it, at first our cousin didn’t believe her but after a few minutes she saw the stick man too and both of them got terrified they told our cousin’s mom if she saw the stickman and she said no. it took several hours, it was noon – until dawn before it faded away. she told the story to me and I had doubts but when I saw this article I was like.. wow I never thought a lot of people saw a stickmen too from around the world. Some of these unearthly creatures have even been apparently photographed, although the quality of this evidence leaves much to be desired. Such reports have actually pored in from all corners of the globe, and it seems to be a phenomenon for which there is no clear answer. Is this just an urban legend in the making? If these stick-like figures are actually real then what could they possibly be? Aliens? Inter-dimensional beings or ghosts? What? Whatever they are or aren’t, actual literal stick figures prowling darkened roads and woods at night have to rank right up there as among the oddest, most bizarre things anyone could expect to come across. It seems that the world of strange sightings can often truly veer off into completely uncharted territory and things that seem unable to truly be classified, existing in their own fringe world of sheer, utter insanity. There they lurk in the dim confines of a realm we have no understanding of and of which many do not even know is there at all. These are things for which there is no easy way to classify, things which seem to have lurched out of some sort of horror story. What are these creatures, if anything? How can we explain these oddities and anomalies? If we can glean anything from this it is that these are some truly strange bizarre sightings out there that defy conventions, and which may never cease to puzzle. Understanding Our POV Choices — Guest: Susan Tuttle

November 28, 2017 Understanding Our POV Choices — Guest: Susan Tuttle When we first start writing, we might imitate the styles we’ve seen in books we’ve read. However, once we learn more about writing craft, we tend to explore our voice and what makes our storytelling unique. One aspect of writing that we often emulate without thinking is point of view (POV), which we’ve talked about here before . The POV we use for our writing is likely one we’ve seen in other stories, so it’s what feels natural or normal. But that usual approach isn’t necessarily the best choice for the story we’re trying to tell. Our options for POV go beyond the obvious, and finding the right perspective for our story might mean ignoring the default technique we’re used to. How can we know which choice is right for us and our story? Susan Tuttle is here to share her insights into POV, with a different way of looking at our options and the pros and cons of each one. So if you’ve ever struggled with POV before (or if you’ve never thought beyond the default), maybe her interpretations and explanations will trigger new understanding. Please welcome Susan Tuttle! *smile* Demystifying POV by Susan Tuttle Few things can pull readers out of a story more than an awkward Point of View or a POV switch. They may not know what to call it, but they do know something is wrong. And that’s not anything any writer ever wants to happen. POV is arguably the easiest concept to understand, but the hardest to put into practice. That’s because there are no standard terms for POV. When I began teaching fiction writing, I researched how other writers described POV, and got totally confused by the varying terminology. I took gobs of notes, then distilled them down into 7 main types that made logical sense to me: three Straight POVs, three Emotional Omniscient POVs, and, one Classic Omniscient POV. Understanding these 7 main types of Point of View and when to use each can help writers of both fiction and creative nonfiction avoid the dreaded POV switch. 3 Straight POVs Option #1: First Person Straight POV A single character tells the entire story, using “I” and “we,” in either present or past tense. Only what this one character sees, hears, thinks, feels, and experiences can be narrated in the story. It feels very close to readers , as though the character is speaking directly to them. The main drawbacks are the character must be “on stage” for the entire story, and deep, disturbing emotions may be too strong for this POV. Also, the success of this POV rests entirely on the consistence of the voice. Ex: I walk into the crowded room with my head held high and walk toward the podium on trembling legs. My heart is pounding. If anyone thought I wouldn’t show up to accept this award, they were sadly mistaken. Option #2: Second Person Straight POV This form uses “you” in place of the “I.” The narrating character is unseen and unknown. This form puts the reader into the central character’s place. The drawback is that it is very hard to create the necessary reader/character bond, especially if the personality of the character is diametrically opposed to that of the reader. The actions and motivations become unbelievable to the reader. This is a very distancing POV. Workable for the right short story, but hard to maintain for a full length novel. Ex: You walk into the crowded room with your head held high, and you walk toward the podium. Your legs are trembling, your heart pounding. But you are determined to accept this award, no matter what anyone else thinks. Option #3: Straight Third Person POV In this form, a narrator is telling the story as if “he” were one of the characters—the protagonist, one of the sidekicks, or even the antagonist. It can be in present or past tense, though past is easiest to write and read. It is a comfortable distance for readers when it comes to deep or disturbing emotions. Because the narrator is pretending to be the narrating character, he can delve very deeply into the character’s thoughts, emotions and motivations. This POV can create an almost unbreakable bond between readers and the POV character. The main drawback is that the narrator is limited to just this one character to tell the story. Ex: She walked into the crowded room with her head held high, even though her legs trembled and her heart pounded. She knew many of those assembled didn’t want her to receive this award, but she’d be damned if she let them intimidate her into running away like a coward. 3 Emotional Omniscient POVs I call these next three POV types emotional because that is the base of them: the emotions of the characters. “Omniscient” means “all seeing”; applied to fiction, it means the narrator can switch from one character to another. With a couple of variations, most Emotional Omniscient POVs are rendered in Third Person. Option #1: Shifting Third Person POV Shifting Thirds allows the narrator to move, or “shift”, in and out of characters’ heads at will, sometimes in the same paragraph. There are no line breaks or other devices used to alert readers to the shifts. Though out of favor in most genres these days, it is still occasionally used in romance, sci-fi, and fantasy. The main drawback is that if the writer is not exceptionally skilled at shifting, readers can become confused as to whose mind they are in. It also takes much longer to create the reader/character bond, because the narrator is not in anyone’s head for very long. Ex: Though her heart quivered and her body trembled, Meleia stood still, staring at Solon, refusing to let him see how frightened she was. Solon liked her spunk; he smiled in appreciation of her courage, foolish though he knew it was. Meleia clenched her hands and lifted her chin, determined to foil whatever plans he had. Option #2: Close Third Person POV Close Thirds also allows narrators to switch characters, only not as often as in Shifting Thirds. Often two-thirds of a scene, an entire scene, or a significant portion of a chapter is rendered from one character’s viewpoint before the narrator switches to another character. This helps to quickly build the sympathetic bond between readers and character, because they spend an appreciable amount of time with the character. And having more than one POV character will draw in more readers, because they can bond with the one that most appeals to them. The main drawback in Close Thirds is not alerting readers clearly enough that a switch has taken place. In that case, readers can be confused as to who is telling this portion of the story. Another danger is having too many POV characters , which can also confuse readers. It is critical to choose only those 2, 3, or 4 characters who can best tell each portion, and keep moving the story forward. When writing in Close Thirds POV, always use a line break when switching character viewpoints, and always identify the new character clearly in the first two lines of the new portion. When narrating each character’s portion of the story, Straight Thirds POV rules apply; you can only render what the current POV character thinks, see, feels, hears, and experiences. Ex: Meleia could see thoughts race behind Solon’s eyes, though she had no idea what they were. Did he understand who she was, what she was here for? Meleia stood as still as she could, despite her thudding heart and quivering body, and stared at him. She would not let him see how frightened she was. And no matter what, she would foil whatever plans he had. * * * Menja Solon stared at the young girl who stood so defiantly in the dank, dim cell. She didn’t show enough fear, not by half. Why? he wondered. He might like her spunk and her courage, but he needed fear. Yes, fear and what it brought him, that was what he was after. Option #3: Alternating Thirds POV The last of the Emotional Omniscient POV types is Alternating Thirds POV. In this form, an entire chapter or section is narrated from one character’s POV. The next chapter or section is narrated from a second character’s POV. Then the third chapter or section goes back to the first character. You can also alternate between up to 4 characters—any more can be confusing to readers. Be sure to identify the narrating character at the beginning of each chapter or section. Do not rely on chapter headings to do the identification for you (ex: Chapter 1, Amy; Chapter 2, John). Close to 90% of readers do not read chapter headings. Use them if you want, but also identify the new narrating character within the first two sentences, every time. Emotional Omniscient Variations: In both Close Thirds and Alternating Thirds, one character can narrate from Straight First Person for that section, while all the other characters narrate from Straight Third Person for their sections. Do not use more than one First Person narration; it is extremely difficult to identify first person narrators by name (how many of us think, “I, Susan, will go to the store later”?) without using contrived devices, and even more difficult to make the various voices so unique and different they are immediately recognizable to readers. Stick to one First Person combined with the rest in Third Person. Classic Omniscient POV The final main POV type is what I call Classic Omniscient POV. It is the POV most 19th and early 20th Century novels and stories were written in. Classic Omniscient POV does not allow the writer to access any character’s thoughts, feelings, or emotions. The Classic Omniscient narrator is like a camera with a voice recorder attached, perched high above the action. It records only what it can see and hear, nothing else. No internal thoughts. No memories. No emotions. The major challenge when removing the emotion from the POV is building interest for readers. The characters still have to be real and compelling. You still have to create the character/reader bond. The secret to a successful Classic Omniscient story is bringing emotions to the fore without accessing them directly. It’s a case of “not what you say, but how you say it.” You need to choose the details of what can be seen and heard in such a way that it conveys the impression of emotion, even though they do not directly access any thoughts, feelings or emotions. This POV creates the most distance between readers and characters, because the emotion is only implied. But it gives greater latitude, because the “camera” can tell readers things the characters can’t know, see, or even hear. Ex: Joe and Andrew continued to plan the bank robbery. They didn’t know that the police had pulled into the alley and were even now surrounding the building, in which they had planted a listening device. Full Classic Omniscient POV Example: Kelly walked into the room with her head held high. She didn’t look at anyone, but kept her gaze on the podium as she walked. People at the tables stopped eating and stared at her. She threaded her way through the tables and approached the steps to the stage, leaving behind her a growing buzz of conversation. Janet watched Kelly walk across the room. Her brows drew into a frown and her hands curled into fists. She leaned toward Brad, sitting next to her, and spoke while tracking Kelly’s progress through the huge, crowded room. “I can’t believe she showed up, after what she did. And I can’t believe they’re giving her an award. I hope she’s booed off the stage.” Brad nodded and gave Janet a wink. But his gaze did not leave the tall, slender figure that approached the steps to the stage. It’s worth taking the time to periodically write a few scenes using Classic Omniscient POV just for the experience of choosing exactly the right details to imply emotion . It’s a skill that enhances your ability to render both characters and settings when writing in any other of the POV types. How to Choose the Correct POV Always ask yourself: Whose story is the part of the scene/chapter/section? Who can best tell what happens here? Is this really a straight POV story, or will an added POV enhance it? Sometimes the character we instinctively choose is not the best one to narrate the tale, or even that portion of it. And sometimes another character’s viewpoint can add a twist, stumbling block, or unique perspective we hadn’t thought of. Not until we experiment with differing POVs and ask, “Whose story is it?” will we know the correct POV to choose. 4 Tips to Improve Your POV Technique Always keep in mind the Four Techniques to use for every POV switch (except Shifting Thirds): Know which part of the story belongs to which character. Make each POV character’s voice different and unique. Identify the POV character clearly within the first two sentences of his/her section. Insert a line break whenever you switch to a new POV character. I hope this helps you better understand this very slippery concept. Once you become more aware of the types of POV and how they serve each story, you’ll be able to identify which will work best for each of your stories, and those places where an unscheduled switch takes place. Russia Wants To Launch An Independent Internet For BRICS Nations By 2018

Russia Wants To Launch An Independent Internet For BRICS Nations By 2018 BRICS nations will get independent internet thanks to Russian launch. The government has been asked by the Russian Security Council to develop an internet infrastructure that is independent for the BRICS nations. This is a structure that would continue to work even if there was a global internet malfunction. Vladimir Putin Puts Deadline As 1 August 2018 For Completion This is an initiative that had been talked about during the Security Council meeting in October. This is made up of the top consultative body of Russia focusing on national security. President Vladimir Putin has put the deadline to 1 August 2018 for the task to reach completion according to the news agency. When talking about the issue the members of the council said that increased capabilities of the western nations in conducting offensive operations in informational space along with the readiness that has increased to exercise the capabilities is posing a big threat to the security of Russia. They have decided that creating a different backup system of the Domain Name Servers should address the situation. This would not be under the control of international organizations and it would be a system that countries of BRICS could use. This is, of course, Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. Russia Simulated Switching Off Of Global Internet In 2014 Excessive dependency in regards to global DNS has been something that has been an issue and which was addressed previously by Russia. The Communications Ministry of Russia undertook a big exercise in 2014 in which they simulated global internet services being switched off. They used a backup system in Russia that was able to successfully support the operations of the web inside the country. Reporters have asked Dmitry Peskov, the Press Secretary of Vladimir Putin if the authorities of the country were thinking about disconnecting from the global internet. However, Peskov has said that allegations are false. Press Secretary Said Disconnecting From Global Internet Is Out Of The Question Peskov spoke up and said that disconnection of Russia from the global internet is totally out of the question. He went on to tell the news agency that there has been a lot of unpredictability present in the actions of partners who are in the EU and the US and said that Russia should be prepared in case there is a turn of events. Peskov said that they know who the chief administrator of the global internet was and went on to say that thanks to the volatility present they now have to think about how they might ensure national security. He did say that it was not about disconnecting Russia from the World Wide Web but more about being able to provide protection from any possible external influence. Related Articles

Scientists Say We Travel To Parallel Universes When We Dream

« Previous - Next » Scientists Say We Travel To Parallel Universes When We Dream Every night, humans have an average of 6-10 dreams. A few minutes after being awoken, these dreams are usually forgotten. However, what if there's actual meaning to dreams that would make them more lucrative to remember? Modern science, as well as Native American tribes and Mexican nations, believe that we, or at least our brains visit a "parallel universe" when we dream. This would explain why humans can dream in color, and can senses with all five feelings what's happening within the dream. If you've ever dreamed of eating your grandmother's signature apple pie per se, have you ever realized that it feels like you can taste and smell the delicious pie in front of you? Or maybe you've dreamed of riding a roller coaster and felt the thrill of riding it as it climbs up the steep hills and rushes down the ramps. The True Science Of Parallel Universes Mystics also believe that there are places where dreaming takes place, but have related it to supernatural beings such as ghosts and spirits. However, since 1920 scientists have been trying to avoid such questionable beings, and in their quest to find the ideal place of nuclear particles to host dreams, they realized that such a formation would be impossible on Earth. Thus they shifted the argument away from the supernatural, and into an arguably more confusing field of physics. An example of the scientist's theory of parallel universes would be to think of two worlds: one in which you are born, and one in which you aren't. Logically, you can never be in such a "dual" state within one dimension, and thus the need for multiple parallel dimensions arises. Think about it: in another world, there could be a copy of yourself who does things slightly differently, and as a result may have a better life than you. In another world, there could be a person like you who didn't forget his lines at the corporate meeting. In another world, there could be another version of you who understands what is going on with our dreams--and maybe by then, we'll know if the scientists or the mystics win out on this debate. A Loophole In Graphene Could Be The Way To Limitless Free Energy

« Previous - Next » A Loophole In Graphene Could Be The Way To Limitless Free Energy Graphene really should not exist, and the sheer fact that it does is thanks to a loophole in physics that turns a 2D sheet of atoms into acting just as a 3D solid material. Now physicists have looked into the rippling of graphene and found a physical phenomenon that is on an atomic scale which could be exploited and used as one way of producing virtually a limitless supply of energy that is clean. Loophole In Graphene Could Power Electronic Devices Of The Future The physicists and researchers who have made the discovery come from the University of Arkansas but they did not specifically set out to find a new way to power electronic devices. The aim of the study was just to watch graphene shaking. Everyone knows the substance called graphite, which is gritting black and carbon-based and when combined with ceramic materials makes the lead in pencils. Related Articles Graphene contact lens that could let you see in the dark When using pencils, there are smears left behind, and these are carbon atoms that have been arranged in chicken wire pattern in stacked sheets. The sheets have not been bonded together, and this means that they can easily slide over each other. For many years scientists have been wondering whether or not it was possible to isolate the single sheets of graphite and if so it would leave the 2D plane of chicken wire carbon standing on its own. 2D Material Acts As A 3D Material Two physicists from the University of Manchester seemingly achieved the impossible in 2004 when they managed to isolate sheets taken from a granite lump, and they were just an atom in thickness. To be able to exist it meant that the 2D material was cheating in some way and it acted as though it were a 3D material and it provided a level of robustness. It seems that the loophole was a random jiggling of atoms that were popping backward and forwards and this gave the 2D sheet of graphene the third dimension. This meant that the graphene became possible due to the fact that it was not perfectly flat and it vibrated at an atomic level and in such a way that the bonds did not unravel spontaneously. To be able to measure the jiggling accurately, Paul Thibado, physicist, led graduate students on a study that was simple. The team put down graphene sheets over a supportive copper grid and then watched how the position of the atoms changed by using a scanning tunneling microscope. They managed to be able to record the atoms bobbing around in the graphene, but the numbers did not fit into any expected model. They found that they could not reproduce the data that they had managed to collect from one trial to another. Thibado said that the students felt as if they were not going to learn anything that would be of use. However, the physicist then took the experiment in a totally different direction. They began to search for patterns, and they changed the way that they looked at the data. Thibado said that they took the images and separated each of them into sub-images. Looking at the large-scale averages hid the different patterns and each of the regions of one single image, when they had viewed it over a period of time, gave a pattern that was more meaningful. Graphene Revealed Levy Flights, Sudden And Dramatic Shifts The team found that the graphene sheets were, in fact, buckling in a way that was similar to snapping a bent piece of thin metal backward and forwards when it is twisted from the sides. They found that patterns of random and small fluctuations combined to form dramatic and sudden shifts, which were known as Levy flights. These have been seen in complex systems of climate and biology, but this was the first time that they had been seen on an atomic scale. The researchers measured the scale and rate of the graphene waves and it was found that it could be possible to harness it and use it as an ambient temperature power source. While the temperature of the graphene allowed atoms to move around uncomfortably, the researchers found that it would bend and ripple. When electrodes were placed on either side of the sections of the graphene that was buckling, there was a small shift in voltage. Graphene Could Power Bio-implants In The Future Thibado calculated that a single ten-micron by ten-micron piece of graphene would be able to produce around ten micro-watts of power. While this might not sound like such a great deal, bear in mind that it is possible to fit around 20,000 of the squares onto a pinhead. Just a very small amount of graphene when at room temperature might power a wristwatch indefinitely. What was even better was the fact that it would be able to power bio-implants that would do away with the need for batteries? This is all very exciting of course. However, the investigation into the applications still needs to take place. Thibado is at work already with scientists at the US Naval Research Laboratory to find out how feasible the concept is. Graphene may be such an impossible molecule, but it is a wonder material, and it has got physics turned on its head. It is being called the building block for conductors of the future, and we could see it powering a new wave of electronic devices in the future. Related Articles

Earthworms can reproduce in Martian soil - Unexplained Mysteries

Earthworms can reproduce in Martian soil Posted on Tuesday, 28 November, 2017 | 26 comments It should be possible to grow potatoes and other vegetables on Mars. Image Credit: NASA The results of a recent experiment suggest that the soil on Mars is likely to be suitable for agriculture. Scientists in the Netherlands using a Mars soil simulant obtained from NASA have discovered that earthworms are not only able to live in it, but can even reproduce. The findings indicate that future settlers on Mars should be able to grow their own crops. "The best surprise came at the end of the experiment when we found two young worms in the Mars soil simulant," said Wieger Wamelink of Wageningen University and Research. "The positive effect of adding manure was not unexpected, but we were surprised that it makes Mars soil simulant outperform Earth silver sand." The researchers have also succeeded in growing edible crops in the makeshift Mars soil as well. "The only species that has resisted our efforts so far is spinach," the team wrote. Top 5 nastiest and goriest scenes from Dracula novel

Links Top 5 nastiest and goriest scenes from Dracula novel DR KAJA FRANCK reveals her most gruesome scenes from Bram Stoker’s novel Dracula (1897) Dracula (1897) has sent thrills of horror down the spines of its readers for over 100 years. Even those who have not read the novel are familiar with its most famous incarnation, Count Dracula, and the myriad of adaptations which he has spawned. In many ways we are all Dracula’s children living in a world where our greatest fears have been shaped by Stoker’s antihero. Yet, though the novel remains a Gothic behemoth, the violence and horror it contains is less explicit than you may imagine. Stoker invokes an atmosphere of terror, leaving the details to be conjured by the mind of the reader. Moreover, some of the most dreadful scenes in the text are distressing to the modern reader due to our contemporary understanding of the late Victorian homophobia, sexism and xenophobia that permeates the narrative. Acknowledging this, I have compiled my top five most gruesome scenes in Dracula. You may disagree and, if you do, I’d be interested in hearing what most affected you. 1. Dracula in his coffin Following his arrival at Castle Dracula, Jonathan Harker, embodiment of practical, English middle-classness, realises that he is being kept prisoner by the Count. In order to learn more about the creature that has him held captive, Harker goes on the search for information. What he discovers is eerie and unnerving. In a vault under the castle, boxes of newly dug earth are being stored. In of those is the Count, lying in such a way that he could be asleep or dead. His eyes are ‘open and stony, but without the glassiness of death’ (Dracula) and his lips are still flushed as with blood. However, he is not breathing and he has no pulse. Harker tries to search for the keys to the box but is stopped when he glimpses the look of absolute hatred that the Count gives him – an unholy, unearthly look that forces Harker to flee. The true horror of Dracula is beautifully expressed in this one paragraph. 2. Renfield’s death Renfield remains on the most curious characters within the novel. His is introduced as an inmate in Dr Seward’s asylum – a madman with an uncanny connection to the Count and a love of consuming spiders. Yet he is also eloquent and charming. Following one meeting with him, Mina Harker is moved to tears by his gentle nature. It truly cruel, then, that his adoration of Dracula is repaid with violence. He is discovered in his cell in a pool of his own blood: his face is ‘horribly bruised, as though it had been beaten against the floor’ (Dracula). His back is broken and he is slowly dying. Despite his pain and in an act of self-sacrifice, his final words give Van Helsing the information he needs to save Mina from becoming Dracula’s next victim. 3. The vampiresses feasting on a child Following his realisation that he is Dracula’s prisoner, Harker decides to discover the secrets of his castle. During one of these wanderings, he falls asleep in a tower room only to be awoken by the arrival of three vampiresses who attempt to feed from him. Their attack is thwarted by the arrival of Dracula who confirms his ownership over Harker. One of the vampiresses complains that they will go hungry that night but Dracula, a kind father to his kin, delivers them a bag from which emanates, according to Harker, ‘a gasp and a low wail, as of a half-smothered child’ (Dracula). Something which leaves both Harker and the reader alike ‘aghast with horror’ (Dracula). We are not witness to the actual feeding but the mere suggestion is repugnant. The reversal of the female maternal instinct in the vampiresses attack on the child precipitates Lucy’s transformation into the ‘Bloofer Lady’ and her preferred diet of local children. 4. Mina drinks Dracula’s blood Renfield’s death (number three on this list) leads to Dr Seward and Van Helsing interrupting Dracula’s continued attacks on Mina. The two men enter the Harkers’ bedroom to discover Jonathan swooning on the bed. More unnervingly, Mina is being forced to drink Dracula’s blood in order to transform her into a vampire. Stoker’s description of the scene is deft and effective. The Count grips Mina ‘by the back of her neck, forcing her face down on his bosom. Her white nightdress was smeared with blood, and a thin steam trickled down the man’s bare breast which was shown by his torn-open dress. The attitude of the two had a terrible resemblance to a child forcing a kitten’s nose into a saucer of milk’ (Dracula). The final simile, using the kitten and the child, perverts an innocent image and, as with the vampiresses consumption of the child, the power of Dracula to taint and distort purity is made explicit. Mina’s stained white nightdress hints at the blood stains caused by the loss of virginity on the wedding night. The marital bed is made into a depraved space where natural reproduction is replaced by unnatural transformation. 5. The Staking of Lucy Westenra Dracula’s first victim in England is Mina Harker’s beautiful friend, Lucy Westenra . Following the Count’s ministrations, Lucy is transformed into a vampire, quitting her tomb in order to feed on the blood of young children. Her behaviour earns her the moniker, the ‘Bloofer Lady’ – a corruption of ‘Beautiful Lady’. In order to save her soul, Van Helsing leads the men in his group, including Lucy’s fiancé Arthur Holmewood, in staking Lucy and removing her head. This scene is perhaps the most disconcerting for the modern reader. Clearly we are meant to empathise with the Crew of Light and be cheered by the destruction of Lucy’s evil alter ego. Yet, the violent desecration of Lucy’s body by men who proclaim to love her is deeply problematic. It feels like a punishment for female desire – earlier in the novel Lucy has been proposed to by three men, and these men then fill her veins with their blood during the vampiric attacks, suggesting an all-consuming, sexual appetite underneath her innocent exterior. It’s hard not to read the image of Lucy’s fiancé ‘driving deeper and deeper the mercy-bearing stake’ (Dracula) into her heart while she struggles and screams as a dark inversion of the wedding night scene. Van Helsing’s unwavering belief in his actions and moral position uncover Victorian sensibilities regarding the ownership of women’s bodies in an unconscious manner. Nov 28, 2017

Daily 2 Cents: Unexplained 'Gnome' / Humanoid Sightings Continue -- Alien Bacteria Found on ISS? -- Mysterious 'Sheep Liver' Mutilations

Mysterious 'Sheep Liver' Mutilations Sheep killing by mysterious animal continued unabated in the Niali block in the district today with death of five more sheep and injury of one. Fresh killings were reported from at least two panchayats in the block in the wee hours on Monday with two sheep found dead at Sudhakar Swain’s house in Bilashuni Tarabana village, three at Sindhu Das’s house in Pokharigaon village and one at Rabi Das’s cattle shed in Ranipada village. The modus operandi of the mystery animal remained the same in all the killings with livers of the sheep gouged out of their stomachs. Pug marks of the mystery animal were also spotted near the cattle sheds. Notably, this is the fourth such incident of sheep killing in the area this month taking the toll to 27. The attack took place despite Phulnakhara Forest Division’s initiative to set up cages at the Kantapadasahi in the area to catch the mystery animal. - Mystery Animal Kills 5 More Sheep In Niali Indonesians Seriously Injured by Sorcery Rituals Seven Indonesians were hospitalised after rinsing their hands in acid, police said Tuesday as they hunted for the self-styled sorcerer who promised the men it would make them invincible. The bizarre ritual last week left the men, residents of the Rawa Kopi village just outside the capital Jakarta, with serious burns on their hands, authorities said. A mystery man named Didi, who moved into the village several months ago, claimed he was a master of traditional magic -- known as Debus -- which is supposed to protect a person from physical injury. The self-proclaimed magician offered free lessons and promised to make the unlucky men invincible. ”These men were trying to become invincible with a man who claimed to be a‘guru’,” local police chief Harry Kurniawan told AFP on Tuesday. To test that promise, Didi suggested that the men rinse their hands in a chemical that police believe was acid. It was not long before the men were rushed to hospital with severe burns, Kurniawan added. The self-styled guru fled shortly after the group was hospitalised. He could face five years in prison if convicted of negligence leading to injury. Two men have since been discharged while the other five remain under treatment. Sorcerers and faith healers are common in Indonesia, a vast archipelago nation in Southeast Asia, where many people remain deeply superstitious despite black magic being outlawed. - Indonesians hospitalised after bizarre sorcery ritual North Korean 'Ghost Ships' Just days ago, a boat washed ashore in northern Japan. Aboard were eight men who said they were from North Korea. Now, another boat has been found just 45 miles north of the first, and it also held eight—except all are dead. The 23-foot wooden "ghost ship" was discovered Sunday on a beach near Oga. It had no navigational devices and had lost a rotor blade. Some aboard had been "reduced to bones," and Kyodo News reports that the coast guard suspects it originated in North Korea, which sits about 450 miles away. Sky News reports foreign ships aren't an uncommon occurrence in Japan: 44 have washed ashore this year; 66 did so in 2016. The BBC presents a theory as to why: Some believe North Korea has been calling for more seafood to be fished in order to feed a hungry population. The increased demand may be leading its citizens to take boats that are in subpar condition far off its shores. And as a professor with Japan's Tokai University tells Sky News, the Sea of Japan "starts to get choppy when November comes. It gets dangerous when northwesterly winds start to blow." Kyodo notes the boat that carried the eight live men has vanished; police are reviewing both cases. - Aboard 'Ghost Ship' Found in Japan: Bodies Reduced to Bone Alien Bacteria Found on ISS? Living bacteria were found on the surface of the International Space Station (ISS), and they might have extraterrestrial origins, Russian cosmonaut Anton Shkaplerov said. The microorganisms will be studied further on Earth. Shkaplerov, an ISS expedition flight engineer who will take his third trip to the ISS in December as part of the Expedition 54 crew, said that scientists found living bacteria while they were taking samples from the surface of the station. Speaking to TASS, he said that the microorganisms might have come from outer space.“Bacteria that had not been there during the launch of the ISS module were found on the swabs,” Shkaplerov said. “So they have flew from somewhere in space and settled on the outside hull.” The cosmonaut added that the samples are currently being studied and seem to be safe. The Kenneth Arnold Files: Part I - Venusian Encounters

Tuesday, November 28, 2017 The Kenneth Arnold Files: Part I - Venusian Encounters The Kenneth Arnold Files: Part I - Venusian Encounters By Dr. Raymond A. Keller, a.k.a. “Cosmic Ray” Note: Dr. Keller will be presenting a lecture, “Flying Saucers: From Venus They Come!” at the Hamilton Township Public Library at 1 Justice Samuel A. Alito, Jr. Way in Hamilton, New Jersey, on Wednesday, 29 November 2017, at 7:00 p.m. The program consists of a 45-minute power point presentation followed by a question and answer session. The meeting is free and open to the public. Dr. Keller will also autograph his award-winning 'Venus Rising' books. On 28 March 1950, at the dawn of the atomic and space ages, retired lumberjack Samuel Eaton Thompson of Centralia, Washington, then age 70, came to the rapid realization that we are not alone in the universe and that we can learn much more about extraterrestrials and their way of life simply by remaining calm and exercising our powers of observation. The following is an account of one of the first encounters of an Earthling with beings from the planet Venus in the modern era. Pre-20th Century Venusian Encounters The great Persian Sufi mystic, Jalal ad-Din Muhammad Rumi (1207-1273), once declared to his more intimate group of disciples that there were always about 4,000 angels on the Earth at any time. The ministry of angels, according to this learned Islamic theologian, was to help prepare humankind for its ascension into the higher celestial realms, where we, too, might become angels and dwell in the light of eternal splendor. This is our destiny. In the ensuing centuries since Rumi’s preaching, many have pointed to the esteemed presence of angelic beings among us. The most noted Italian poet, Dante Alighieri (1265-1321), hailing from the cosmopolitan city of Florence, in his famous work, the Divine Comedy (1320), wrote that the planet Venus was the third sphere of Paradise and that he was accompanied there by his beloved Beatrice Portinari, a young woman that he had been infatuated with since his youth, but who, up to the time he traveled with her to Venus, had only admired from a distance. The two were met at the gates of Paradise by a contingent of angels and other ascended beings that were only too kind to conduct them on a guided tour of the wonders that the enchanted planet Venus had to offer. Other spiritual insights and revelations pertaining to the realms of angels were advanced by the Swedish mystic, philosopher, scientist and theologian, Emanuel Swedenborg. Obsessed with the concept of an afterlife, he wrote extensively on the subjects of both Heaven and Hell. Swedenborg believed that Heaven and Hell were real, tangible places, but that they were located on other planets in the solar system. Swedenborg claimed that he had actually spoken with beings inhabiting the Moon, Mars, Mercury, Saturn and Venus that had come to visit him here on Earth during various special occasions. He published a book about these close encounters in 1758, Life on Other Planets, two centuries before the modern age of the flying saucer contactees. The Swedish scientist believed that the most advanced beings came from Venus. Many of these come to the Earth in the capacity of teachers to illumine our path to a better way of living with each other and preparing our society for its ultimate ascension to a higher kingdom in the celestial realms of light. Swedenborg claimed that after he had become more familiar with some of these exalted beings, they actually flew him across the gulf of outer space to visit the planet Venus, an abode of angels. Toward the end of the nineteenth century, noted Theosophist, Helena P. Blavatsky (1831-1891), picked up with the heavenly Venus theme where Swedenborg left off. In one of her first metaphysical writings, an essay entitled History of a Planet (1887), Blavatsky wrote of the cloud-shrouded sphere that, “Venus is the most occult, powerful and mysterious of all the planets, the one whose influence upon and relation to the Earth is most prominent.” From Blavatsky and later leaders in the Theosophical Society, we have come to learn that our sector of the Milky Way galaxy is governed by a council of ascended masters on Venus known as the Lords of the Flame. This august, angelic assembly also includes women. Of course, how could it not? --- at least so far as Venus is the celestial orb that best epitomizes the concept of the divine feminine in so many aspects. Blavatsky gained her specific information about Venus following encounters with ascended masters in the Himalayas. Flying Saucers: From Venus They Came The legendary age of flying saucers began on 24 June 1947, when private pilot and fire extinguisher salesman and technician Kenneth Arnold (1915-1984) caught sight of nine disc-shaped objects passing over the tops of the Cascade Mountains in Washington State while flying his Call Air A-2 airplane in the vicinity of Mt. Rainier. Arnold described the movement of these objects as something akin to “saucers skipping across water.” On the following day, newspapers from around the globe carried banner headlines about the arrival of “flying saucers” in our skies, and the name has stuck ever since. Besides being credited with starting the “flying saucer craze,” Idaho civilian pilot Kenneth Arnold was also one of the first UFO researchers. Dr. Keller gives us a sneak-peak into some of his investigations concerning landed spacecraft and encounters with Venusians Naturally, with his background in aviation and the notoriety that followed his sighting, Arnold was considered the preeminent authority on the subject of flying saucers in our skies well into the early 1960s, when the public turned to prestigious civilian UFO investigative groups like retired Marine Corps Major Donald E. Keyhoe’s National Investigations Committee on Aerial Phenomena in Washington, D.C., or Coral and Jim Lorenzen’s Aerial Phenomena Research Organization in Tucson, Arizona. Both of these organizations were staffed by highly-acclaimed scientists that served as investigators and consultants in their various specialty areas. The public turned to these groups and others because the United States Air Force was perceived as concealing the truth about flying saucers hailing from other planets. Arnold took it upon himself to discover the truth that was out there. In the late 1940s through the early 1960s, occasionally accompanied by his wife Doris, he flew throughout the Northwest and investigated hundreds of flying saucer reports. He did this on his own dime and at great personal expense. Arnold also went to great lengths in making sure that he tape recorded all of his investigative interviews with the paranormal experiencers. But the strangest report of all that both Arnold and Doris had the opportunity of investigating came from the Centralia, Washington, retired lumberjack Samuel Eaton Thompson, whose relating of an encounter with some Venusians convinced Arnold that not only did the flying saucers come from our sister planet Venus, but that the Venusians were literally angels operating clandestinely here on Earth. According to Venus expert Dr. Raymond Keller, many Venusians and other extraterrestrials are attracted to our beautiful beaches. The Venusians, who lack our inhibitions or religious injunctions about nudism, feel no qualms about being in the buff and enjoying nature to its fullest. Clothing Optional Thompson’s story begins following a visit with family and friends in Markham, located in the western part of the state of Washington. Driving through a forested area along a Pacific coast road, the retired lumberjack noticed a big, luminous, globe-shaped object that appeared to be descending onto the beach, beyond the tree line. Seeing a logging trail that apparently led to the shore, the curious Thompson turned his 1947 black Ford pickup truck onto the dirt road in order to determine just how close he could get to the ocean front. The road narrowed into a small forest clearing, where Thompson conveniently backed up and parked his truck. Hearing a humming noise, like a “swarm of bumblebees,” the experienced woodsman pushed his way through the brush and trees toward the beach. In just a few minutes, Thompson had made his way to a rocky shore, whence he ran into “something unheard of.” At least that is how he described the initial phase of his encounter to the investigating Arnolds. Unlike our conventional aircraft that have to come to a landing, this object simply floated a few feet above the ground. But even more surprising was the throng of naked people playing on and beside the steps that led from a door in the bottom of the craft. Of the occupants emerging from the sphere, Thompson took note that they “had the appearance and size of an average teenager, but possessing very fine features.” The retired lumberjack also declared that, in his estimation, “They were just beautiful. They had dark tans and lovely, blonde hair that came all the way down to their waists.” This uniform appearance of height, skin tone and texture, as well as blonde hair coloring, applied equally to both sexes. At first, with Thompson merely observing from behind the tree line, he was apparently unseen, or if observed, paid little heed to by the occupants. Thompson, for his part, decided to cautiously approach the ship. At about a distance of fifty feet from the craft, however, he felt an intense flow of heat rushing by him. He told the Arnolds that, “The heat felt like rays from the Sun,” and assumed that the radiating effect of its emission contributed to the well-tanned skins of these beings. As he passed about ten feet beyond the heat barrier and continued to approach the ship, the beings huddled closely together on and about the step ladder, as if they were afraid of him. Thompson, for his part, sensed the fear of the occupants and stated that, “I come in peace and mean you no harm.” Apparently, this was considered a satisfactory response by the beings, for they told him that if he removed his shoes and socks, they would let him board the craft, provided that he didn’t touch any of the navigation equipment. The beings, in turn, said that they were visitors from the planet we know as Venus, and apologized for their broken English. Except for the ship’s captain, they had only heard English and other Earth languages through our radio transmissions. Once onboard the ship, Thompson would remain the guest of the Venusians for a period of 40 hours. During this time, he discovered that these beings “seemed the happiest and cheerful people I have ever met;” adding that, “Even the smaller ones, their children, were so gentle in their play. They exhibited no roughness or tumbling, stuff like that. They loved to frolic and splash in the water. They were not being told how to behave or think, as is the custom on our world.” For their part, the Venusians were kind and totally benevolent. They explained to Thompson that they would never harm, let alone kill, any human being. The Venusians are here to foster goodwill among all humankind. But Earth people truly frighten them; for on several occasions, Earthly aircraft have shot down some of their patrol ships. Thompson asked the Venusian captain why she thought that was the case, to which Lady Selene replied that, “The Earth, at its highest vibration level, comes nowhere close to fostering the type of cosmic consciousness that exists on Venus. We, the Venusians, recognize this and understand that humankind is still in the process of spiritually evolving.” Interestingly, there have been a few recalcitrant Venusians along the way; but Lady Selene assured Thompson that “These had been banished to Mars for rehabilitation.” Of the many aspects of life on Venus, Thompson discovered that the Venusians incorporate a form of astrology into their religion not unlike that practiced in Tibetan Buddhism. The Venusians, for the most part, are also vegetarians and prefer to eat fruits and vegetables in their raw state. Much like the Seventh-Day Adventists here on Earth, the outstanding dietary habits of the Venusians allow them to live long and healthy lives. Most Venusians live for hundreds of years, as time is measured on our planet, and in a few but special cases, even exceeding thousands of years. A Tour of the Spaceship As Thompson asked many of the Venusians technical questions, especially about the ship’s propulsion, he was saddened that very few could answer with specific details. When he inquired of this with Lady Selene, the captain explained that her spaceship was an excursion vessel and that the majority of those onboard were tourists. Lady Selene volunteered to take the retired lumberjack on a tour of the ship and to answer his questions to the best of her ability, but also taking in security concerns. The ship’s temperature was set at an equivalent of 80 degrees Fahrenheit. For most Venusians, this is a comfortable setting. And, of course, clothing is optional. The captain asked Thompson if he would prefer to remove his clothing. But being raised in a strict, fundamentalist Christian environment, Thompson politely declined. This prompted the Washington woodsman to ask about such concepts as temptation and sin, to which the captain replied that, “The idea of committing a ‘sin’ is something that is truly foreign to most Venusians. On Venus, we do not have organized religions like you do on Earth, whose leaders constantly tell you what you must think and do. This is abhorrent to us as critically thinking, and rational, scientific beings. Our way of life is one of charity and kindness to all. Obviously, there are no laws against loving your neighbors as you would yourself, or your own family; and thereby there is no need for regulatory institutions like organized religions. In this regard, Venus is truly an angelic realm.”“I don’t understand, Lady Selene. Do you mean to say that there are no churches on Venus?”“Brother Thompson,” said the captain, “a church is not what you think it is- vis-à-vis a building of wood or stone. No, a church is merely an assemblage of people. Of course, we Venusians do meet quite often to study and reflect on spiritual concerns. But everyone is a leader in promoting and generating acts of kindness.”“What about Jesus Christ? What do you Venusians think about him?”“For us, the Venusians, it is not so much about who Jesus is as to what he taught while he lived among you. Jesus approached each individual at their point of need. He blessed them, cured them, taught them, etc. and moved on. He taught his disciples to do the same things and more, changing one life at a time in the process. If you on Earth were to continue in this manner, by the year 10,000 C.E., Jesus will have returned to Earth as an avatar once again, realizing full well that he wouldn’t meet the sorry fate he ran into with his last incarnation among the Jews and the Roman occupiers.” The spherical craft was encompassed about by a large, metallic ring. Above the ring were the control and work rooms and below were the living quarters, baths, and recreation centers. Lady Selene led Thompson into the main control room. “Each ship of this class has four sets of controls,” remarked the captain, further adding that, “They consist of little more than levers to make the craft ascend, descend, accelerate or decelerate. Really, these controls are so simple that practically anybody could operate them.” A warning from Venus: Don’t lose control of your technology! See http://futurewarstories.blogspot.com/2014/04/what-will-we-fight-over-robot-apocalypse.html Rage Against the Machines The captain also provided some wise advice. “Long ago, we made our machines so smart and sophisticated that many Venusians were unable to operate or even understand them anymore. On Venus, we actually went to war with the machines that tried to take over our planet. After a hard-won victory over these ‘smart machines,’ we returned to a simpler technology that left us in control.” Next, the captain showed Thompson some of living quarters, square rooms onboard the ship, like in an ocean liner, but illuminated without visible light bulbs or fixtures. The walls just seemed to glow with a type of radiant sunlight. Other rooms shown Thompson included some for bathing and taking showers. Thompson described it thusly: “You just walk into this room and it rains in there, just the same as it rains outdoors. They draw in the moisture from the air; and that is where you’ll get your bath.” The adroit woodsman was also escorted into a bedroom. There were beds that folded out from the wall. “Now don’t get any ideas,” said Captain Selene. “I just thought you might like to check out a bedroom, since you’ll be spending the night here.” Thompson and the captain chuckled. Kenneth Arnold, at this point in the interview, asked Thompson about the restroom facilities. Thompson, being the Puritan that he was, said that he never asked about restrooms or used one during the whole time he was on the ship. “So what did you do when you had to go?” asked Arnold.“When I had to relieve myself, I just went outside, even after dark. Frankly, I have no idea how the Venusians deal with this function because the subject never came up during a conversation. But if it had,” Thompson felt that, “the Venusians, who never get embarrassed about anything, would have discussed the subject forthrightly.” Thompson expressed a desire of wanting to go home and fetch a camera, whence he could return and take photographs of the ship and the Venusians, as well as bring some other witnesses back with him. To this the captain emphatically replied, “I’ll let you bring a camera back; but it won’t do you any good. Also, experience teaches us that not all humans are as nice as you. So bringing anyone else here is out of the question. They might try to destroy us, or even vector some strange disease. We took a chance on you, since our medical monitors showed you were clean after passing through our heat barrier. But I’m responsible for the safety of all these students, so I can’t allow them further exposure to other Earth beings.” Thompson did come back in time, right before the ship took off, with his camera. Unfortunately, and true to Lady Selene’s words, the pictures he took were no good, just showing huge blobs of light in place of both the Venusians and their ship.“I’m really impressed, Lady Selene. Do you suppose we of Earth will be able to produce anything like all of this anytime soon?”“God forbid, Samuel. I don’t think the Venusians are ready for Earthlings to move in next door just yet.”
