Assam government offices : No effect of new timings
Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal’s appeal to ensure punctuality in government offices drew a lukewarm response from the state government employees as most of them failed to reach office by 9.30am on New Year’s day.
The government changed the office timings from 10am to 5pm to 9.30am to 5pm on all working days with half-an-hour lunch break, which came into effect from Monday.
The employees, however, continued their usual trend of getting to work 10 to 30 minutes late with only around 20 per cent of the employees reaching office by 9.30am.
Sonowal recently urged employees to reach office on time so that people don’t have to wait to get their work done. He had also exhorted them to set an example of efficient work culture before the young generation and contribute towards the resurgence of the state’s economy.
Basab Kalita, president of Sadou Asom Karmachari Parishad – the apex body of state government employees – said a large number of employees from places in lower Assam like Pathsala in Barpeta district come by a train, which reaches Guwahati at 9.30am and because of that they get delayed.
“Otherwise, barring a few habitual latecomers majority of the employees reported for duty on time,” he claimed.
Kalita said though they have accepted the revised timings there is a feeling that the efforts and devotion of those employees who often work beyond working hours may have gone unnoticed or unrecognised by the government.
Director of inland water transport Bharat Bhushan Dev Choudhury said the timings of ferry service from North Guwahati has been advanced by half-an-hour in view of the new office working hours from Monday.
There are around 4.2 lakh employees in various government departments across the state. The state cabinet had given its nod to the revised office timings last Wednesday and a notification to this effect was issued on Saturday. http://www.stategovernmentnews.in/assam-government-offices-no-effect-new-timings/ 2018-01-02T03:22:14+00:00 admin Assam Assam,Assam government offices,Assam state government employees Assam government offices : No effect of new timings Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal's appeal to ensure punctuality in government offices drew a lukewarm response from the state government employees as most of them failed to reach office by 9.30am on New Year's day.
