India's IndiGo says profit helped by Pratt, Airbus payouts

IndiGo owner InterGlobe Aviation second-quarter profit quadruples IndiGo owner InterGlobe Aviation second-quarter profit quadruples Source : Last 16:41 hrs (Reuters) - InterGlobe Aviation, the owner of India's biggest airline IndiGo, reported an almost four-fold rise in quarterly profit, helped by higher passenger revenue and credits received from Pratt & Whitney and Airbus on aircraft groundings and delivery delays. Net profit came in at 5.52 billion rupees ($85.26 million during the quarter ended Sept. 30 while revenue from operations grew about 27 percent to 52.91 billion rupees. InterGlobe reported its best ever September-quarter profit - usually a weak period for airlines in the country due to fewer holidays falling in that time. The company said its revenue per available seat kilometre - a measure of its operating earnings - rose about 13 percent to 3.52 rupees. Passenger yields, which measure the average fare paid per mile per customer, climbed 9 percent. In July, InterGlobe Aviation warned that delays in deliveries of Airbus' A320neo aircraft, due to issues with the new Geared Turbofan (GTF) engines, were affecting margins, adding it was having to lease planes to make up the shortfall. Earlier in October a source told Reuters that Pratt & Whitney, which makes the GTF engines, was close to coming up with a fix for those problems. IndiGo and privately-owned GoAir are among the biggest customers for the A320neo planes, owning about 30 between them with around 500 on order. "Nothing like that, this is wrong. We have never ignored Sardar Patel's contribution. Sardar Patel and Nehruji both achieved freedom together for the nation. Those who knows or read the history, they won't be astrayed by such statements," she said. The Prime Minister, while speaking at the 'Run for Unity' event to mark birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, had accused the Congress of making an attempt to erase the contribution of the first deputy prime minister of India. "Patel's legacy was ignored by governments. The role of Sardar Patel was not introduced to the new generation of the country. Either an attempt was made to erase their contribution from history or an attempt was made to minimize it. Whether a political party accepts him grandfather or not, the country's youth will not allow him to be forgotten. The country's first President, Rajendra Prasad, also expressed his pain at an attempt to forget Sardar," Modi had said. The birth anniversary of Sardar Patel is being celebrated across the country as 'Rashtriya Ekta Diwas' (National Unity Day). Earlier, President Ram Nath Kovind, Prime Minister Modi, and Vice-President M. Venkaiah Naidu paid floral tributes to Sardar Patel. (ANI) SEARCH talking point on sify news Latest Features

"No one can compete with the BJP when it comes to empty promises and drama," the Shiv Sena leader, Arvind Sawant said. Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Tuesday announced that the Army will help build three new foot-over-bridges by January 31 at Elphinstone Station, where 23 people were killed in a stampede last month. Reacting to this, Arvind Sawant said, "The municipal corporation had given money to the railways since 2008, but they haven't been able to construct one small FoB till now." He further added, "So, they know that they themselves won't be able to make it. That is why they took the help of armed forces." Sawant also expressed disappointment that he was not informed about Union ministers Piyush Goyal and Nirmala Sitharaman's visit to his parliamentary constituency. In an address to the public in Jhandutta district of Himachal, Gadkari said, "I promise you I will bring airplane which will land on water. You might think that I am making fake promises just like many other politicians. However, record my words, I executed all the promises I made in the last 35 years of my career." Gadkari also assured to bring electricity-controlled vehicles in the state. "I am Member of Parliament(MP) from Nagpur where at least 200 Ola taxi run on electricity. Petrol costs 80 rupees, diesel 60, but electricity costs only 10 rupees. Hydro-electricity is produced in Himachal but has no customers. I have come here to give you a promise, that if you select BJP as your government, we will bring electricity driven buses, cars, and bikes. The electric vehicle will get charged in 15 minutes and travel a journey of 150 km", Gadkari said adding that fares of bus tickets will be reduced by half because electricity is cost-effective, pollution free and indigenous. Gadkari said that the upcoming assembly elections will not decide the future of BJP, Congress, Prem Kumar Dhumal or Virbhadra Singh, but of the public of Himachal Pradesh. Taking a dig on the Congress leaders, Gadkari said, "India gained its independence in 1947. Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru said he will remove poverty. Then Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi said they will remove poverty. Now, Nehru's grand-grandson Rahul Gandhi is also saying he will remove poverty. I agree that they have removed poverty, but only of their aides and Congress members". Gadkari also urged the electorates of Himachal Pradesh to vote for BJP candidate Kishori Lal. "I have been given so many ministries in the Central Government that I often forget my department. You elect Kishori Lal Ji as your representative and I will fulfill every demand. Press Lotus button in front of his picture and such current will flow that Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh will rise 2 inches above his chair. SEARCH talking point on sify news Latest Features
