Amir's workload needs to be managed better: Yasir Arafat

Amir's workload needs to be managed better: Yasir Arafat Amir's workload needs to be managed better: Yasir Arafat Source : 14:46 hrs [Pakistan], November 4 (ANI): Pakistan all-rounder Yasir Arafat has called on the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to take special care of star fast bowler Mohammad Amir's work load if they want to save him from severe physical exertion that might cause injuries. "I have been saying this before and will repeat it again. If Mohammad Amir or any other bowler is to be used in Test matches, then the PCB will need to ensure that they do not play 4-day county cricket games. Amir's playing schedule needs to be managed better by the PCB. I understand that playing in the county circuit is an important part of a player's progress but it is pretty severe in physical aspects in terms of number of games that a professional is asked to play in a season with limited time to recover in between," Pakpassion.net quoted Arafat as saying. Last month, the 25-year-old was left out from the five-match ODI series against Sri Lanka after he sustained a shin injury during the two-match Test series. Reflecting on the same, Arafat insisted that Amir had performed brilliantly for Essex this summer and guided them to historic Essex title, but the continuous playing has had an adverse effect on his body. "Mohammad Amir performed brilliantly for Essex in the summer and helped them to a historic county title but that caused strain on his body and we saw the effects of that in his breakdown in the second Test in Dubai where his energy levels were nowhere near what was expected of a top-class bowler. He is not the young fast-bowler of many years ago and if he is to be an integral part of Pakistan's Test squad in the future then he should not play the 4-day version in England," Arafat said. The right-arm pacer believes Amir's services should be limited to the shorter versions of the game at all levels, while he could also play some of the games in the longer format. "Yes, he can continue to take part in the shorter formats of the game at all levels but the longer format should be limited to a few games and mostly to Tests for Pakistan. It is Amir's good fortune that there are no Test matches until May next year so he has plenty of time to recover but he is quite fantastic in the shorter forms of the game as we saw in the series against Sri Lanka. He will also be a handful for the opposition when Pakistan tour New Zealand for the LOI series later on where the bowling conditions will suit him just fine," Arafat concluded. Amir, who has been an automatic selection for Pakistan in all three formats of the game since his return to international cricket, had hurt his right shin during the second Test against Sri Lanka in Abu Dubai.(ANI) SEARCH

World Bank CEO assures 'full unwavering commitment' to India World Bank CEO assures 'full unwavering commitment' to India Source : 14:47 hrs [India], Nov. 4 (ANI): World Bank CEO Kristalina Georgieva on Saturday assured complete 'unwavering commitment' and support to fuel India's growth momentum, adding that New Delhi's success translates to global success. Addressing the 'India's Business Reforms' session at Pravasi Bhartiya Kendra earlier in the day, Georgieva, citing India's 30-place jump in the 'Ease of Doing Business' report said such an elevation is 'very rare', especially given the size of the Indian population. "India has achieved remarkable overall success. A jump of this nature is very rare, especially in the case of India, with such a large population. Seeds sown of simplification, reduction of administrative barriers, enhanced use of technology, and feedback from end users have resulted in the success. . In reforms, what pays off is persistence. What we are seeing is extraordinary achievement by India. This needs to translate to more reforms for the future," she said. Hailing the Goods and Services Tax (GST), Georgieva stated that the system of a unified internal market creates an incredible growth opportunity for India. This, she said, is being supported by the development of high-quality infrastructure in India for enhanced connectivity, along with efforts in the areas of health, education, sanitation and investing in roping in more women into the workforce. "India's federalism should work for India. The foundation of India lies in the strength of cooperative and competitive federalism," she said. Highlighting the four-fold increase in per-capita income, and two-fold growth in FDI inflow (36 billion in 2014 to 60 billion presently), Georgieva stated that the need of the hour is to retrospect upon the size of firms in India, and chalk out measures to enhance capacity in order to create more jobs. India among top 7 countries at high ramsomeware risk: Sophos

India among top 7 countries at high ramsomeware risk: Sophos India among top 7 countries at high ramsomeware risk: Sophos Source : Last Updated: Sat, Nov 04, 2017 16:40 hrs New Delhi : India is among the top seven countries for ransomware circulation as cyber attacks on Windows, Android, Linux and MacOS systems have increased this year globally, a new report has said. According to "SophosLabs 2018 Malware Forecast" by global network and endpoint security leader Sophos, two types of Android attack methods are emerging -- locking the phone without encrypting data and locking the phone while encrypting the data. "Ransomware has become platform-agnostic. Ransomware mostly targets Windows computers, but this year, SophosLabs saw an increased amount of crypto attacks on different devices and operating systems used by our customers worldwide," said Dorka Palotay, SophosLabs Security Researcher, in a statement on Saturday. WannaCrypt, unleashed in May 2017, was the top ransomware intercepted from customer computers, dethroning the long-time ransomware leader Cerber, which first appeared in early 2016. WannaCrypt accounted for 45.3 per cent of all ransomware tracked through SophosLabs with Cerber accounting for 44.2 per cent. "For the first time we saw ransomware with worm-like characteristics, which contributed to the rapid expansion of WannaCrypt. This ransomware took advantage of a known Windows vulnerability to infect and spread to computers, making it hard to control," added Palotay. Android ransomware is also attracting cyber criminals. According to SophosLabs analysis, the number of attacks on Sophos customers using Android devices increased almost every month in 2017. One reason they believe ransomware on Android is taking off is because it's an easy way for cyber criminals to make money instead of stealing contacts and SMS, popping ups ads or bank phishing which requires sophisticated hacking techniques. "It's important to note that Android ransomware is mainly discovered in non-Google Play markets - another reason for users to be very cautious about where and what kinds of apps they download," the researchers noted. Sophos recommends backing up phones on a regular schedule, similar to a computer, to preserve data and avoid paying ransom just to regain access. SEARCH

Irish PM says future of $1 billion Apple data centre uncertain

Irish PM says future of $1 billion Apple data centre uncertain Irish PM says future of $1 billion Apple data centre uncertain Source : 16:05 hrs DUBLIN (Reuters) - A planned $1 billion Apple data centre is in doubt after Irish Prime Minister Leo Varadkar said the U.S. company's Chief Executive Tim Cook would no longer commit to it, adding that Dublin would do whatever necessary to get it built. Apple announced plans in February 2015 to build the facility in a rural location in the west of Ireland to take advantage of green energy sources nearby, but the project has faced a two-year delay due to planning objections. In a meeting on Thursday, Cook did not commit to going ahead with it, Varadkar told state broadcaster RTE. "We didn't get a start date, or a definite commitment or anything like that," said Varadkar, who is on a tour of the United States to meet investors, adding he had told Cook that the government would do "anything within our power" to facilitate the resumption of the project. Ireland relies on foreign multinational companies like Apple for the creation of one in every 10 jobs across the economy and sees major investments such as data centres as a means of securing their presence in the country. Apple did not respond to an e-mail query asking about whether it was committed to the project. A similar Apple centre announced at the same time in Denmark is due to begin operations later this year and Apple in July announced it would build its second EU data centre there. The government has said it is considering amending its planning laws to include data centres as strategic infrastructure, thus allowing them to get through the planning process much more quickly. Some iPhone X buyers in US unable to activate devices: Report Some iPhone X buyers in US unable to activate devices: Report Source : Last Updated: Sat, Nov 04, 2017 17:02 hrs San Francisco : In a first major glitch in Apples "super premium" iPhone X, buyers in the US took to Twitter to report issues related to activating their new devices. "The issue seems to be affecting some AT&T, Verizon and Sprint users in the last few hours when they tried to get service on Apple's $1,000 phone. When users tried to activate the device, a message popped up saying, 'The activation server is temporarily unavailable', The Verge reported on late on Friday. A buyer tweeted: "Hey @Apple not sure if you heard, but the #iPhoneX came out today. Maybe fix the activation server? Now, please." "Well I got my iPhone X. Activation appears to be another issue entirely. Continuous 'could not activate iPhone' message," tweeted another user. Apple is yet to comment. However, the issue could just be related to iPhones purchased directly from Apple and not from the carriers in the US. "Some of our customers experienced a delay activating their iPhone X," an AT&T spokesperson was quoted as saying. Apple introduced its much-awaited iPhone X globally, including in India, on Friday amid heavy demand. SEARCH

IndiGo dismisses PV Sindhu's claims of ill-treatment IndiGo dismisses PV Sindhu's claims of ill-treatment Source : 16:45 hrs [India], Nov 04 (ANI): IndiGo Airlines has dismissed Shutller PV Sindhu's alleged claims of misbehaviour with her while she was on board on one of their aircrafts. Earlier in the day, Sindhu took to Twitter to report about alleged ill-treatment she received from the airlines while she was flying to Mumbai from Hyderabad. She tweeted, "Sorry to say ..I had a very bad experience when I was flying by 6E 608 flight to Bombay on 4th November the ground staff by name Mr ajeetesh." "Ground staff (skipper) Mr Ajeetesh behaved very badly and rudely with me. When the air hostess Ms Ashima tried to advise him to behave properly with the passenger (me) but to my surprise he behaved rudely with her," she added. Rejecting Sindhu's claims, Indigo replied that the ground operations remained calm with her throughout and were carrying out duty in the best interest of a safe and reliable operation. Explaining the incident, Indigo said, "Sindhu was carrying oversized baggage, which was not fitting into the overhead bin and was informed that it will be moved to cargo hold of the aircraft." The airlines said that this was the policy it follows for all as carrying oversized baggage creates inconveniences to other customers and can also be a safety hazard. "During the entire conversation, the member of the IndiGo ground operations remained calm," the airlines replied, adding, "After several requests to her manager, they finally consented to the removal of the bag from the cabin. We then placed the over-sized baggage in the cargo hold and was handed over to Ms Sindhu on arrival." Indigo added that though it is extremely proud of Sindhu's sporting achievements, but safety operations are paramount to them. (ANI) SEARCH

PM Modi says India may announce tax relief for traders next week

PM Modi says India may announce tax relief for traders next week PM Modi says India may announce tax relief for traders next week Source : 16:44 hrs NEW DELHI: India may announce measures next week to help traders and small businesses who say a new nationwide goods and services tax (GST) has increased their tax and administrative burden. Prime Minister Narendra Modi said if there is consensus at the next GST council meeting due over Nov. 9 to Nov. 10, the government would take the necessary steps to help traders and strengthen the country's economy. A panel of ministers last month recommended reducing tax rates for small businesses and traders and raising the minimum revenue threshold for companies that need to pay tax, local media reported. The launch in July of the long-awaited GST, which transformed India's 29 states into a single customs union, has left thousands of small and medium-sized firms at the bottom of the supply chain short of working capital. Modi is facing criticism for the disruption to the economy caused by the roll-out of GST and the shock removal of higher-value bills from circulation last year. As a result of these issues India's economy is expected to grow at its slowest pace in four years this fiscal year, a Reuters poll found. Modi's comments came days after India jumped about 30 places to 100th on the World Bank's "Ease of Doing Business" rankings, reflecting reforms in accessing credit, power supply and the protection of minority investors. Modi said he expected India's ranking to improve next year when the GST and other reforms were considered. "There are many other reforms that have already happened but need gestation and stabilisation time before they are taken into account by the World Bank," Modi said. He added that there were other reforms on which India and the World Bank would need to find common ground. Modi said along with manufacturing, India was also pushing for faster progress in developing infrastructure and was working to improve the investment climate. ($1 = 64.5500 Indian rupees)

Pak Senate chairman urges state institutions to work within constitutional limits Pak Senate chairman urges state institutions to work within constitutional limits 15:45 hrs [Senate], Nov.4 (ANI): Pakistan's Senate Chairman Raza Rabbani has urged the country's state institutions to work within constitutional limits and not interfere in each other's mandated domains unconstitutionally. While addressing a seminar on the theme, 'Challenges for provincial autonomy laws after 18th Amendment' at National Institute of Management, he said the implementation of the 18th Amendment will become impossible due to unconstitutional moves. "Currently nothing is going right in the country," the Express Tribune quoted Rabbani, as saying. Citing four of the 14 points of the Quaid e Azam, Muhammad Ali Jinnah, with regard to the issue of provincial autonomy, he said that it is important for the country that general elections are held on time. "Constitution should be supreme over all institutions," he added. Lamenting that a dictator [General (rtd) Musharraf] ran away from the country, Rabbani said the state could not bring him to justice and it is unfortunate to see him commenting on national politics from abroad. He further said that the 18th Amendment stopped martial law in the country. (ANI) SEARCH talking point on sify news Latest Features

Four smart ways to manage expenses when starting your own business

Four smart ways to manage expenses when starting your own business Four smart ways to manage expenses when starting your own business Source : 13:01 hrs [India], November 4 (ANI): It takes an immense amount of hard work, patience and strong financial support to start your own business, and turn it into an asset. Many businesses fail in the early stages due to lack of planning and the inability to manage expenses. Here are four smart ways to manage expenses when starting your own business from scratch: Look for smart office space solutions Leasing an office space is one of the biggest investments in any business. Early-age startups do not require a large office space. Moreover, the concept of virtual office provided by business centres is also gaining momentum these days. It allows a person to use a rented office space as per their requirement without physically being present there. Cost sharing One does not need to own everything when starting a business. The cost of small basic amenities like printer, kitchen supplies, mail services, and telephones adds up to a big amount that one has to pay every month. Sharing the amenitieswith other startups is a better option instead. Advanced and modern services Startups and SMEs are not keen to invest heavily on latest technologies for growth of their business. With the concept of shared office spaces, companies often get high-end and professional services to expand their business in a fixed cost of rental space for the employees. Networking Networking helps a lot in building a brand and productivity of business. Having people from different industries at a place can help in meeting prospective clients, vendors, or even referrals; and save one the cost and time in looking for them outside the business. Sharing common spaces often lead to lucrative talks and prospective business plans. (ANI) SEARCH
