Setback for India's Visa push for technology professionals

India's push for a global agreement to facilitate trade in services in order to make the visa process for technology professionals as well as nurses more flexible has recieved a glitch at World Trade Organisation (WTO) as members do not see an outcome at the ministerial meeting in Argentina. As per sources aware of the situation, European Union which is pushing for a similar international framework for online services transactions was also informed that the situation is not favorable for discussion in WTOs meeting. The two decisions come even as India pressed on its demands regarding a permanent solution on stocking of foodgrain, impacting its public procurement scheme. WTO members are still far from coming up with a permanent solution for public stockholding for food security purposes as well as with a special safeguard mechanism for developing countries like India, allowing them to levy higher duties during a surge in imports. WTO members were warned at a meeting in preparation of the ministerial meet in Buenos Aires that time is running short for efforts related to striking a deal related to agriculture trade owing to deep divides. At the meeting, the Indian representatives lead by ambassador J S Deepak informed that most WTO members backed its joint proposal with China eyeing a reduction in subsidy in developed countries, putting forth logic that such benefits gave the developed nations a huge flexibility to subsidize and focus support on certain products. India also asserted that public stock holding and domestic support cannot be linked. Indian representatives also added that there can not be substantial outcomes in Argentina without a permanent solution on the issue which was promised in the year 2014. "This happens every time. The developed countries don't want to settle it and use it every time to negotiate something else.We are not going to allow this," said an officer.

National Centre for Flexible Electronics of Indian Institute of Technology , Kanpur has developed world's first of its kind '3-D SECURE TAG'. It will also work when a user is offline. This tag will provide you all necessary information of product by scanning it through a mobile app. A patent has been applied for the technology and the tag will cost less than Rs 5. The process of the app began in 2012-13 when Professor Deepak of Material Science and Engineering was working on an electronic chip. Deepak realized that an electronic reader was necessary to read the information stored in chip. He stuck with the idea of using it with an Android phone so that people could use it to check genuine and fake products. He started to develop it by 2014 with his Anti-Counterfeiting team (ACT). "Hard work of more than two and half years became successful when world's first offline 3-D secure tag got ready for public use. One simply needs to download an app of less than 10 MB of storage space from Google Play store. Tag will be affixed on product. It needs to be scanned through app and information like date of manufacturing, expiry, batch number and MRP will be available on screen. The tag will cost less than five rupees" said Pranav Asthana, one of the members of core team of Prof Deepak and Prof Monika Katiyar. Other members are Satish Chandra, Utkarsha and Priyanka. This tag will be launched commercially by the end of the year. A startup company has been formed inside IIT Kanpur campus. Many companies related to pharmaceutical, pesticide and personal care have contacted to use it on their products. Currently, bar codes are being used but they can be duplicated. This secure tag claims to be free from any such duplication. To read this article in Hindi click here . Artificial Intelligence Based Hard Disk SkyHawk Enters Market by Seagate

SkyHawk AI is ideal for intensive computational workloads that typically accompany AI work streams, as its high throughput and enhanced caching deliver low latency and excellent random read performance to quickly locate and deliver video images and footage analysis. Seagate Technology plc ( NASDAQ : STX) announced its SkyHawk AI hard disk drive ( HDD ), the first drive created specifically for artificial intelligence (AI) enabled video surveillance solutions. Building on Seagate’s 10-year track record of delivering surveillance optimized storage performance, SkyHawk AI provides unprecedented bandwidth and processing power to manage always-on, data-intensive workloads, while simultaneously analyzing and recording footage from multiple HD cameras. Analytics on video surveillance hardware is growing exponentially, forecasted to increase from 27.6 million shipments in 2016 to 126 million shipments in 2021 (Cropley, 2017), as hardware manufacturers continue to include analytics sensors on network video recorders (NVRs). This will only increase as AI – particularly deep learning and machine learning applications, such as facial recognition and analyzing irregularities in behavior – become increasingly prevalent. In parallel, the need for fast video analytics will continue to rise, increasing the workload burden on NVR storage. “The use of AI technology in surveillance is steadily increasing – both in the edge and backend installations such as retail fronts and large city traffic management. Seagate has led the surveillance storage market since its early days, a decade ago, by delivering industry leading HDD products that have enabled more than 5X increase in exabytes during this time period,” said Sai Varanasi, vice president product line management at Seagate Technology. “We are excited to introduce smart, purpose-built SkyHawk AI solutions that expand the design space for our customers and partners, allowing them to implement next-generation deep learning and video analytics applications.” SkyHawk AI is ideal for intensive computational workloads that typically accompany AI work streams, as its high throughput and enhanced caching deliver low latency and excellent random read performance to quickly locate and deliver video images and footage analysis. This enables on-the-edge decision making, eliminating the latency of exchanging cloud-based data and processing. Equipped with Seagate ImagePerfect™ AI firmware, the drive reliably records high quality, sharp video footage with no dropped frames, while simultaneously facilitating AI-enabled NVR analytics – ensuring that intelligence gathered through video surveillance footage is not lost. “As smart cities, smart transportation, and other surveillance programs become more prevalent, the number of surveillance nodes has reached the hundreds of thousands. Due to the widespread use of high-definition monitoring, the amount of data required in security surveillance has dramatically increased. The efficient collection, analysis, and application of data is becoming ever more critical,” said Guo Xudong, deputy general manager of domestic sales & marketing, Hikvision. “We are excited that Seagate will launch the industry’s first AI optimized surveillance drive which will enable us to efficiently manage data storage and processing challenges, including, but not limited to, our DeepinMind NVR series.” “Video analytics has been evolving over the past 10 years and is garnering a lot of attention these days due to the use of AI. Dahua Technology made an early start in AI applications and has since made several achievements in the industry, for example, the newly launched IVSS series,” said Yang Shengwei, products and solutions director, Domestic Sales Operation Center of Dahua Technology. “As a strategic partner, Seagate’s advanced technology will help Dahua to reach a new top in the AI field. We hope with the newly launched SkyHawk AI drive we can boost the AI application across the surveillance industry.” “With the rapid advancement of IoT , cloud computing, and big data, we’re entering an intelligent security era. India and Italy Leadership to Come Closer for Better Trade Relations

“India and Italy are two large economies of the world and there is a lot of scope to boost our commercial cooperation,” Modi said in a joint address to the media following talks with Gentiloni, the first Italian Prime Minister to visit India in 10 years. Overcoming the freeze in ties on the marines issue for over five years, India and Italy ageed to boost economic ties from the current bilateral trade level of $8.8 billion as the two sides signed six agreements, including on mutual investments and energy, following delegation-level talks headed by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Italian counterpart Paolo Gentiloni . “India and Italy are two large economies of the world and there is a lot of scope to boost our commercial cooperation,” Modi said in a joint address to the media following talks with Gentiloni, the first Italian Prime Minister to visit India in 10 years. “There is immense potential to increase our bilateral trade with Italy from the current levels of $8.8 billion,” Prime Minister Modi said. He said discussions with members of a high-level Italian business delegation accompanying Gentiloni has left him with a lot of optimism He called for more participation of Italian companies in India’s flagship programmes in collaboration with Indian companies. “Our requirements in sectors like smart cities, food processing, pharmaceuticals and infrastructure match the expertise and capabilities of Italy,” Modi stated, adding that Italy would be the focus country in the World Food India to be held in November. Diplomatic ties between India and Italy came to a near freeze following the February, 2012 firing by two Italian marines, Massimiliano Latorre and Salvatore Girone, from merchant vessel Enrica Lexie, killing two Indian fishermen off Kerala. The case is now with the International Tribunal for the Law of the Seas (Itlos) at the The Hague and India has allowed both the marines to return to Italy. The stand-off between New Delhi and Rome also affected the talks for a free trade pact between the European Union and India. According to a joint statement issued following the talks, both Modi and Gentiloni “appreciated the strong India-Italy economic linkages and committed to work in a result-oriented and mutually beneficial manner by injecting a renewed momentum into the broad-based economic engagement between the two countries”. “PM Modi called upon the Italian industry to explore India’s untapped business opportunities in the infrastructure, food processing, renewable energy, and high-tech manufacturing sectors,” it stated. “PM Gentiloni also called upon Indian industry to identify business opportunities, including in Italy’s textile, automotive, leather, machinery and chemical sectors.” The Italian Prime Minister also highlighted his country’s commitment to the Make inIndia initiative through the activities of the 628 Italian companies which have invested over $2.4 billion and provide employment to over 23,000 people in India. According to the statement, both leaders announced the organisation of an Indo-Italian High Level Forum on Design, with a focus on industrial design, auto design, architecture, interior design, and fashion. Gentiloni also underlined Italy’s industrial expertise in the defence sector, and the renewed interest of Italian industry in participating in defence manufacturing under the Make in India initiative. “In the area of smart cities, both sides expressed their intent to identify specific areas for cooperation,” the statement said. “The Indian side welcomed the Italian initiative to share their experience in the area of urban rehabilitation, advanced technology solutions in the area of energy management (from smart grids to electric mobility networks), affordable housing and waste management,” it stated. Both Modi and Gentiloni expressed their shared commitment to strengthening the economic partnership between India and the European Union (EU) and noted the ongoing efforts of both sides to reengage actively towards an early resumption of negotiations for a comprehensive and mutually beneficial India-EU Broad Based Trade and Investment Agreement (BTIA), according to the statement. In his address to the media, Modi highlighted science and technology another area of cooperation between the two countries and said that Italy was emerging as a destination of choice for higher education among Indian students. Stressing on cultural contacts and cooperation, he said: “I was pleased to know that a lot of people in Italy have a deep and abiding interest in Indian culture, cuisine, cinema, music, dance, yoga and ayurveda.” The Indian Prime Minister called for strengthening cooperation in tourism and people to people exchanges to strengthen such links further. “We discussed in detail some of the emerging security challenges facing the world,” Modi said. “We are both committed to fight terrorism in all its forms, and to strengthen our cooperation in cyber security.” Following Friday’s talks, the two sides signed six agreements, including two memorandums of understanding (MoUs) on cooperation in mutual investments and in the field of energy, and a joint declaration of intent of cooperation for safety in the railway sector. Gentiloni arrived here on Sunday in what is the first Italian prime ministerial visit to India in over decade after the visit of then Prime Minister Romano Prodi in February 2007. It's the app you likely spend the majority of your time using on your phone or the website you pull up more than you care to admit. Whether you're finding the latest news or trying to stay in touch with friends, checking Facebook can become an addictive habit. We've collected some of the best tips and tricks you may not know about - from hiding people you don't want to see on Facebook to managing notifications. Here are 19 tips and tricks that every Facebook user should know. Turn your profile pic into an animated GIF From the Facebook mobile app, select your profile picture and then "Take a New Profile Video" to upload a short video loop of yourself. The result looks like a mix between an animated GIF and a moving picture straight out of "Harry Potter". Turn off auto-playing videos in your News Feed. If you don't want videos on Facebook automatically playing when you scroll past them in your News Feed, make sure to turn the setting off. Under the far right tab in the Facebook mobile app, tap Settings and then "Account Settings." From there select "Videos and Photos." You can choose to auto-play videos over cellular and Wi-Fi connections, just Wi-Fi, or never. Unfollow people you don't want to see in your News Feed, but don't want to completely unfriend If you want to stop seeing someone's posts in your News Feed but don't have the guts to completely unfriend them, you can unfollow them to hide their activity. From someone's profile in the Facebook mobile app, tap on "Following" under their profile picture and then "Unfollow" to get rid of their posts completely. On the desktop site, click the drop-down arrow to the right of a post to unfollow a person. Select profiles and pages you never want to miss updates from in your News Feed If there are certain people or pages you want to see first in your News Feed no matter what, you can select them in the Facebook mobile app. Tap "Settings" under the app's "More" tab and then "News Feed Preferences" to get started. People and pages you've marked to see first will have a little blue star next to their posts in your feed. Hide your posts from specific people Your Facebook posts can be shared with your friends, friends and friends of friends, or anyone who views your profile. You can select these sharing options on a case-by-case basis from the drop-down menu at the top right of a post. On the mobile app, select "Edit Privacy" and select one of the options. From the desktop, just click the little friends or globe icon next to a post's time stamp. If you want everyone expect a few people to see a post, you can choose to hide it from specific people by selecting "Friends except..." on the mobile app and "Custom" on the desktop. See how your profile looks like to people who aren't your friends This is handy for seeing what on your profile is visible to others, including individual friends you may have hidden certain information from in the past. When you're logged into Facebook on the desktop website, go to your profile, click the ellipsis and then "View as..." Hide your list of friends If for some reason you don't want people seeing who you're friends with, you can hide the list entirely. From your friends list on the desktop, click the "Manage" pen icon on the right and then "Edit Privacy." Then you can change who can see your friends list, the people you follow, and your followers. Hide your relationship-status change from your friends It could be potentially disastrous for your Facebook friends to see your relationship-status change. The good news is that you can prevent relationship changes from being seen by anyone except you. This means the change won't show up in your friends' News Feeds. While editing your profile under "Family and Relationships," change the privacy filter to "Only Me." Hide specific photo albums and events on your timeline If you have certain photo albums you don't want people seeing, but don't feel like deleting them completely, you can hide them so only you can see them on Facebook. The same goes for events in your life, whether they be relationship changes, new jobs, or whatever. Just take note of the little gray icon next to a photo album or post. Two little people mean that it can only be seen by your friends, a globe means it's public, and a padlock means only you can see it. Block people from being able to contact you If someone is spamming you with messages or you just want to make sure they can't see your profile, go to their profile page and click on the three dots to the far right. Select "Block." See everywhere you're logged into Facebook and remotely log out From the Facebook mobile app, tap the far right More tab then Settings, Account Settings, Security, and finally "Where You're Logged In." Tap the "X" to remotely log out of any device or Facebook app you're logged into. From your Security Settings on Facebook's desktop site, the "Where You're Logged In" menu shows active logins and lets you end them. Get alerted every time a log-in attempt is made for your account. Facebook Login Alerts and Login Approvals can be enabled under Security Settings in the mobile app and desktop site. You can choose to get a Facebook notification or email whenever a log-in is made. Login Approvals mean that you'll have to enter a secondary code sent to your phone before you can log-in to Facebook on a new device. Unsubscribe from notifications for posts you've commented on We've all probably commented on a post and regretted it later because of the onslaught of notifications that followed from other people commenting. You may not know that you can unsubscribe from activity on any post, which could be a godsend next time you decide to comment on a friend's politically charged opinion. When you get a notification for a comment or like on a post on Facebook's desktop site, click the "X" to the right of the notification and then "Turn off." The reverse is also true. You can turn on notifications for activity on any post from the right drop-down arrow.
