Bharti Airtel, Ericsson To Develop 5G Technology In India

Telecom giant Bharti Airtel has struck a partnership with Ericsson to develop 5G technology for the former’s India operations. Ericsson’s Senior Vice President and Head of Market Area South East Asia, Oceania and India Nunzio Mirtillo, confirmed the news and said, "We have MoUs (agreements) with 36 operators globally. In India, we have recently tied up with Bharti Airtel for 5G technology. According to the terms of the partnership, Ericsson and Bharti have come together to push Airtel's transition into the next-gen 5G network, Mirtillo said. Interestingly, this is not the first time both the companies have joined hands as the Swedish company already has tie-ups with Airtel for its 4G and managed services. Mirtillo also spoke about the technology and said 5G has an "extremely high throughput and ultra-low latency". Once adopted, 5G will enable users to access internet with speeds in excess of 1,000 Mbps, which is several times faster than 4G and even eclipses some of the fastest broadband speeds available across the nation right now. 5G will also prove crucial in adopting several futuristic technologies such as Internet of Things (IoT), autonomous cars which are dependent on really fast internet connection to function optimally. Apart from this, 5G technology will also pave newer roads even in conventional sectors such as healthcare, boosting farm productivity among others. – Money Control Twitter

WhatsApp is adding two amazing new features for professionals

WhatsApp is adding two amazing new features for professionals www.techgig.com | techgig.com Nov 20, 2017, 03.21 PM IST Social media Image Credit Continue reading You may soon be able to 'seamlessly' jump from an ongoing voice call to video call on WhatsApp, without disconnecting it, just by pulling a hidden switch. You may also be able to switch to a 'locked mode' while sending a voice message that will give you the flexibility of recording a voice message without keeping the mic icon pressed. These are the two new features that the popular messaging service is reportedly testing on its Android app. As per the WABetainfo website, the two new features have been spotted in the instant messenger's Android beta apps. The first feature is said to let users switch between voice only calls and video calls 'seamlessly'. The feature was spotted in July this year and has now surfaced online once again. WABetainfo has also posted screenshots on the website and on Twitter showing the feature. As per the report, an upcoming WhatsApp update will feature a new button on the voice call screen, allowing users to switch from a voice call to a video call without disconnecting the original call. Users currently need to hang up an ongoing voice call to place a video call. The report states that while changing over from voice to video calls, the voice call receiver will be prompted with a request for switching over. The receiver can either reject the request or swipe up to accept it. The second feature shows a new button to send voice messages in WhatsApp. According to the report, pressing on the mic icon for half a second to record a voice message will display a lock symbol. Swiping up on it will allow you to send audio messages without keeping the mic icon pressed. The feature is said to have some limitations. A user will not be able to view a photo or video while recording a "locked" voice message or send a text message simultaneously while using it. Since the features are in beta version, it cannot be confirmed if they will see the light of the day in the final version or not. WhatsApp recently started introduced the 'Delete for Everyone' feature that allows its over one billion users to revoke their messages in case they sent those to a wrong person or group. The feature will allow users to delete specific messages which they have sent to either a group or an individual chat. 'Delete for Everyone' is now available for Android and iOS users. As per the WhatsApp FAQ page, the feature will be particularly useful if you sent a message to the wrong chat or if the message you sent contains a mistake. Messages you successfully delete for everyone will be replaced with "This message was deleted" in your recipients' chats. Similarly, if you see "This message was deleted" in a chat, it means that the sender deleted their message for everyone. You can only delete messages for everyone for up to seven minutes after sending. Once seven minutes have passed, there is no way to delete messages for everyone. The newest beta version of WhatsApp for Android also has several updates, including a smaller app size and a feature that would notify your friends when you change your number. According to technology website Teknepolis, one major update is that when you change your phone number in WhatsApp, your contacts would receive notification of the update. The feature would work every time you change your phone number. WhatsApp has also announced advanced features for improved group management, including a tool that will prevent the group creator to be deleted from the group by other administrators. The administrators on WhatsApp groups will also be able to choose if other participants can modify the subject of the group, its icon and its description. As per reports, WhatsApp is also working on a new feature within its apps that will let users to send and receive money. WhatsApp Pay feature is currently under the testing stage and may go official in India later this year. Apparently, WhatsApp Pay will support UPI-based payment services. Kunal Doley

Trump administration to halt work permits for H-1B spouses

Trump administration to halt work permits for H-1B spouses www.techgig.com | techgig.com Nov 20, 2017, 03.46 PM IST Hiring Image Credit Continue reading The Trump administration has planned to halt the work permits for the spouses of H-1B visa holders. The announcements will discourage the H-1B visa applicants form staying in the country. Over 100,000 spouses and children of H-1B Golders come to the US every year on H-4 visa. In 2015, President Barack Obama granted a work permit for some H-4 holders. An immigration authority recently said to the popular media house that, the decision on H-4 work is likely to come. IT jobs in the silicon valley will disproportionately affect IT hiring. The high-tech companies hiring H-1B workers are heavily impacted. The high cost of living in the Valley makes it difficult for a family to survive on one salary. The final decision on H-4 authorization is yet to come. Losing H-4 work may have a domino effect on many families. Before the work permit was created for certain H-4 visa holders, foreign women were not allowed to hold a job or be issued a Social Security Number. Within the first year, after the program was announced, 41,526 people received an authorization to work under H-4 visa program. The program helped in creating a key economic support for families that migrated on H-1B visas. There are plenty of worried families in the US that are worried about losing H-4 work authorization. Critics of the program believe that work permits will help in preserving the American jobs. The court deadline for H-4 litigation is fast approaching. The government is far along in finalizing a regulation. The next court deadline is January 2nd. Most of the H-4 visa holders decided to migrate to the US because of their spouse. The visa is only applicable if their spouse has been approved for a green card. - Rajat Kabade

5 best ways to effectively handle negative co-workers

Continue reading 5 best ways to effectively handle negative co-workers If you're a working professional, you'd have surely come across people with negative vibes. Sometimes it may not just be the negativity that they spread but also their destructive acts that may pull you into chaos, disrupting your focus and sidelining your goals. They often complain unnecessarily without offering any constructive solution . They can frustrate you and waste your valuable time and energy. One of the main problems is that even the best B-school will not tell you how to tackle this issue, though its widely prevalent. Often, the issue is brushed under the carpet without anybody even showing that the problem exists. Negativity can possibly be one of the main reasons behind a decline in performance and productivity. So, what do you do then? Well, maybe you can adopt these strategies to effectively deal with such people. Set your limits Let these negative characters say whatever they want to. You need not listen to every word of theirs. Instead, maintain considerable distance from such people, both mentally and physically. Set your limits; try to keep your conversations short. You may not have a hold over their negative vibes, but you can definitely control whether or not to engage in them. Tell the negative colleague that you'd prefer to think about your job positively. Avoid providing a sympathetic audience for their thoughts and actions. Don't overreact Negative people will try to spread their negativity all the time. They will complain about everything, they will never offer solutions, only point out problems. They will try to suck you into their emotional pity party with their negative conversations. Unless such behaviour is harmful, let it pass. Reacting to such attitude all the time will only cause you frustration. You will waste valuable time and energy if you try to make sense of their actions. Control your emotions, try to walk away from unnecessary situations with your head held high. Be positive Try to fight out the negativity by embodying a positive attitude. Your well-being is too precious to be taken away by someone's negative conversation of toxic comment. Remain positive all the time, limit your time with the negative co-workers. Your positivity will eventually win over the toxic co-workers and they will slowly fall away naturally. Also, try to spot the positive co-workers and stick to them. They will make you feel more confident and constructive. Do things you like doing in your free time, surrounding yourself with friends and family members to boost your mood. Build a support network Build a network of friends, acquaintances, professional contacts or family members that may act as your support system. When things don't go your way, have the emotional intelligence to recognise that you need help. Some negative people know too well how to get under your skin and you may not be able to deal with the situation by yourself. Talk openly to them and calmly explain your predicament. Often, your friend or mentor may provide you with a new perspective or a different approach. They may ultimately help you find an alternate solution to your problem. Talk to your seniors If you think the problem is not getting solved, talk to your seniors or the human resources official concerned about the difficulties you are facing in tackling the negative co-worker. In fact, you need to know when somebody is crossing the line. If you think the negative colleague is impacting the work and environment of the workplace, do not think twice to talk to the higher-ups. Your seniors may come up with ideas or address the issue effectively. Also, remember that persistent negativity is a work behaviour that may require disciplinary action up to and including suspension from office. Kunal Doley

Rs 30,000 Cr Allocated for SME Development Within Petrochemical Sector

Email Print Mr. Dharmendra Pradhan, Petroleum Minister, noted that Indian Oil Corp (IOC) has already commissioned a 15-million tonnes per annum oil refinery at Paradip port town on the Odisha coast at an investment of Rs 35,000 crore. Over Rs 30,000 crore would be invested over a two-year period to set up SMEs in the petrochemical sector in eastern India, Union Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said. This was said on the sidelines of the Petrochemical Investors Conclave . Mr. Pradhan said that over one lakh employment opportunities are likely to be generated in India’s eastern region. Addressing the inauguration event, the minister noted that state-run Indian Oil Corp ( IOC ) has already commissioned a 15-million tonnes per annum oil refinery at Paradip port town on the Odisha coast at an investment of Rs 35,000 crore. He said IOC had signed another MoU with MCPI Ltd for setting up a textiles park in the state. “The polyester downstream industry can flourish very well in the eastern region as well,” Pradhan said. “By achieving synergy of cotton fibre with polyester fibre to promote and popularise synthetic textiles, the textiles park will primarily benefit MSMEs (micro, small and medium enterprises) with employment potential of around 22 lakh,” he said. IOC is also setting up a new polypropylene unit of 700 kilo tonnes per annum capacity at a cost of Rs 3,150 crore, which is slated to be commissioned at Paradip Refinery in 2018 to support the polymers and plastics industry, he added. UIDAI Gave Some Relaxation to Banks for Aadhaar Enrollment Process

Email Print Ajay Bhushan Pandey CEO of UIDAI informed, “Banks wanted some relaxation so that they could hire operators for data entry, and also hire the enrollment machines. So we have provided them this relaxation. Now using that, they are going ahead and setting up the (enrollment) stations.” Some level of relaxation for banks came when UIDAI has introduced some “relaxation” to banks in procurement of enrollment machines and hiring private data entry operators for their Aadhaar centres, and hopes that banks will offer such services at stipulated 10 per cent of the branches–at the earliest. The Aadhaar-issuing body, Unique Identification Authority of India ( UIDAI ), has allowed banks to hire private data entry operators and enrollment machines and expects the relaxation to speed up the opening of Aadhaar enrolment and updation centres at bank premises. The only condition that UIDAI has kept for banks is that banks will have to ensure proper supervision of enrollment and updation process within their premises. “Banks wanted some relaxation so that they could hire operators for data entry, and also hire the enrollment machines. So we have provided them this relaxation. Now using that, they are going ahead and setting up the (enrollment) stations. They have assured that they will do this task as early as possible,” Ajay Bhushan Pandey CEO of UIDAI said. “The good thing is they are all catching up and they have started getting into this. Many of them have placed order on GeM (Government e-Marketplace) portal and they are in the process of procurement,” he said. Asked about the time it would take for banks to achieve the target of opening Aadhaar centres in at least 10 per cent of their branches, Pandey said, “It should be possible within next few weeks”. “The entire idea is that people should get the convenience as early as possible,” he added. On whether the UIDAI would take action against the banks for not meeting the deadline of October 31 for opening such centres, Pandey declined to spell out the consequences saying that the authority will have to take a considered view on whether banks can demonstrate valid reasons for missing the deadline. “If they (banks) are able to demonstrate that they faced a genuine difficulty then appropriate view can be taken. At this stage, it is difficult to say what exactly will be the consequences,” he added. The Bank Aadhaar Kendras are being set up with a view to make the Aadhaar verification process of bank accounts convenient for the people and also to have more Aadhaar centres across the country. According to UIDAI stipulation, 43 private and public sector banks have to open Aadhaar enrolment and updation centres in 15,315 branches.

Spirent collaborates with China Telecom and Huawei to complete 400GE test

Spirent collaborates with China Telecom and Huawei to complete 400GE test TT Correspondent | | 20 Nov 2017 Spirent Communications, on Monday announced collaboration with China Telecom China Co. Ltd., Guangzhou Research Institute and Huawei to verify 400 Gb/s Ethernet (400GE) short and long-range technologies. The test, which is the first of its kind, included the verification of 400GE port functions such as line-speed forwarding, multi-service stacking, and fault reporting for short and long-range technologies. The trials were performed in China Telecom's network and terminal key laboratory using test cases based on real-world network applications, while Guangzhou Research Institute was responsible for network requirements, test-case design, and execution. Spirent provided testing equipment for the project, which included Spirent TestCenter with DX3-400GO-P2 400G and FX3-100GO-T2 100G test modules. “The IEEE 400GE standard is expected to be adopted by the end of 2017 and, as various international bodies are accelerating the standardization process of 400GE, the perfection and establishment of these standards will rely on early and sufficient testing to verify their performance. This collaborative test marks the first R&D evaluation of its kind and perhaps most importantly, the achievement of our expected outcome is a landmark step for the adoption of standardized 400GE medium and long-range technologies,” said Zhu Yongqing, director for IP technology research of the China Telecom Research Institute. “The joint innovation endeavor of the Guangzhou Research Institute, Huawei and Spirent lays a solid foundation for the industry-wide maturity of 400GE technologies, marking the threshold for the commercialization of next generation high capacity port technologies provided by 400GE. It is our hope these results help to accelerate the commercialization of 400GE in the industry,” said Zhou Jiaxin, Sales Director for Spirent Communications. “Spirent has been involved in the entire 400GE R&D and evaluation process, making great contributions to the research and development of the standard. We track development trends, continue investment in core technologies, and provide innovative solutions to our customers and the industry to advance the evolution of networks and improve services for the cloud age,” said Abhitesh Kastuar, General Manager for Cloud and IP Solutions. According to the joint press release issued by China Telecom Guangzhou and Huawei, the quantum leap in development and the explosion of services like HD video and cloud computing has caused traffic across the backbone to increase by 45% annually. These annual increases across the network pose critical bandwidth challenges. At present, 100GE is the highest line-rate commercially available. To meet these challenges, Spirent has adopted a high-density mandate to offer test solutions with more 100GbE ports in one test module than any other vendor. In addition, Spirent expects to continue this standard of high port density in future releases, giving customers a higher return on investment and smaller footprint of rack space. To satisfy test requirements of the new generation of 400GE, Spirent has released the DX3 series and PX3 series, 400G and 200G testing modules on its flagship product, Spirent TestCenter, providing industry-leading single-slot 2-port density and CFP8 and QSFP-DD interfaces to help the industry to advance the commercialization of 400GE in carrier networks and data centers.
