Sistema Shyam Telecom Merges With Reliance Communications

Reliance Communications has completed the merger of Sistema Shyam Teleservices, which operates under MTS brand, with the company. The Russian conglomerate Sistema controlled SSTL gets 10 per cent stake in RCom as part of the deal. "The Board of Directors of Reliance Communications Limited, at its meeting held today in Mumbai, took on record the demerger of Sistema Shyam Teleservices LtdÂ’s telecom business in India, run under the brand name MTS, with the company," RCom said in a statement. The completion of SSTL business merger gives a breather to RCom which is planning to shut down its loss-making wireless telephony business by November 30 and concentrate only on 4G internet services. As part of the deal, RCom will acquire the entire telecom business of SSTL including its licences which bring along 30 MHz of spectrum in 800 and 850 MHz band, considered premium frequencies for providing 4G services. SSTL merger will result extension of RCom's spectrum validity in the 800 and 850 MHz band in eight telecom service area -- Delhi, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala, Kolkata, UP-West and West Bengal -- by 12 years, from 2021 to 2033. "As a result of the demerger, SSTL will receive a 10 per cent equity stake in the fully diluted equity share capital of RCom. In addition, RCom will assume the liability to pay the DoT, instalments for SSTL's spectrum, amounting to Rs 390 crore per annum for the next 8 years," the statement said. RCom is in the midst of a strategic debt restructuring, under which it has entered into a standstill agreement with banks requiring it not to pay any interest or principal till December 2018. With Rs 44,000 crore loan on its books, the company is also shutting down its direct to home television business from next month after it failed to find any buyer for the business. RCom Executive Director Gurdeep Singh is believed to have told employees that the company has reached a "situation where we need to call it a day on our wireless business" and this would lead to closure of "wireless business 30 days from now". RCom has said that the company has decided to adopt a 4G-focused strategy for profitable growth of its wireless business. – Indian Express

Find the Best Rewards Credit Card, Based on Your Actual Spending

Find the Best Rewards Credit Card, Based on Your Actual Spending Kristin Wong, Gawker Media Oct 31, 2017, 10.36 PM IST Photo: Pixabay Let's say you're ready to get into this whole credit card churning thing . Or maybe you just want one card to start earning rewards on your day-to-day purchases. Either way, which card should you start with? And how much can you earn? Redditor bloogza created a spreadsheet that breaks down the detail of over 40 different popular rewards credit cards . It includes the rewards rates for spending on Amazon, restaurants, gas, groceries, travel, and bonuses to help you find the card that will earn you the most rewards. Not only that, but the spreadsheet will also calculate exactly how much you can expect to earn with that card in one year, two years, and three years, based on your typical spending. To start, you enter your monthly spending in each of the following categories: restaurants, groceries, air travel, other travel, gas, Amazon, miscellaneous expenses. From there, the spreadsheet automatically crunches the numbers (including the fees) and shows you what you'll earn with each card. To make it even easier, /u/bloozga has color-coded the spreadsheet, too-the best cards are highlighted green. As always, do your own independent research (and check to make sure that you do, indeed, qualify for the cards in question) before getting involved with a new credit card, but the spreadsheet is definitely worth playing around with as you assess your options.

Sen. Tim Scott Responds To John Kelly: 'No Compromise To Make' On Civil War - Funny Lovely Internet

WASHINGTON ― Sen. Tim Scott (R-S.C.) seemingly chided White House chief of staff John Kelly on Tuesday after the former Marine Corps general claimed that the Civil War was caused by the inability to compromise. “We need to stop relitigating and referencing the Civil War as if there was some moral conundrum,” Scott, the sole black Senate Republican, said in a statement. “There was no compromise to make – only a choice between continuing slavery and ending it. We need to move forward together, instead of letting the divisions of the past continue to force us apart.” Kelly on Monday said a “ lack of ability to compromise led to the Civil War ” and called the removal of Confederate monuments a “dangerous” scrubbing of history. The senior Donald Trump aide made the comments during an interview with Fox News’ Laura Ingraham, who asked his thoughts about the removal of two plaques honoring President George Washington and Gen. Robert E. Lee at a church in Alexandria, Virginia. “I would tell you that Robert E. Lee was an honorable man,” Kelly said during the interview. “He was a man that gave up his country to fight for his state, which, 150 years ago, was more important than country,” he added. “It was always loyalty to state first back in those days. Now it’s different today. But the lack of an ability to compromise led to the Civil War. And men and women of good faith on both sides made their stand where their conscience had to make their stand.” A number of U.S. historians have criticized Kelly’s comments about the Civil War, calling them “strange,” “sad,” and “wrong.” Stephanie McCurry, a history professor at Columbia University, told The Washington Post that Kelly’s comments echoed talking points of a “ pro-Confederate view of the Civil War .” White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders, however, defended her boss on Tuesday, accusing reporters of creating a false narrative. “Because you don’t like history doesn’t mean that you can erase it and pretend that it didn’t happen,” Sanders said during a daily press briefing. “I think that’s the point that Gen. Kelly was trying to make.” “All of our leaders have flaws,” Sanders added, citing George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Franklin Roosevelt, and John F. Kennedy. “That doesn’t diminish their contributions to our country.” Scott has been particularly vocal about the issue of racism in America. After white supremacists rallies in Charlottesville, Virginia, over the summer, Scott met with President Donald Trump in the Oval Office to discuss the president’s controversial response in which he said there was “blame on both sides.”

Parallel Wireless adds 2G capabilities to their 3G & 4G end-to-end SDR solution

Parallel Wireless adds 2G capabilities to their 3G & 4G end-to-end SDR solution

Parallel Wireless adds 2G capabilities to their 3G & 4G end-to-end SDR solution Parallel Wireless, Inc., on Tuesday announced the addition of 2G capabilities to their end-to-end cellular network technology. This solution will bring network virtualization principles (NFV) to 2G/GSM to reduce cost and complexity of rolling out or expanding 2G networks while enabling cost-effective migration to 3G/4G. This will benefit the 40% of emerging markets who will still use 2G in 2020 (according to GSMA), as well as developed markets refarming 2G spectrum for use in NB-IoT. This solution utilizes two main components from Parallel Wireless: 1. HetNet Gateway (HNG), the industry’s only 3GPP-compliant 2G/3G/4G network orchestrator that virtualizes essential network functionalities on one platform to enable network simplification and automated maintenance. By unifying and orchestrating any G on a software-upgradable platform, HNG also paves the way for 5G. 2. Converged Wireless System (CWS), world’s first 2G/3G/4G base station built using commodity silicon combines Baseband Unit (BBU), Remote Radio Head (RRH), edge router, and flexible backhaul in one small form factor. CWS can provide any combination of 2G/3G/4G access simultaneously and delivers the highest RF output to cover the furthest distance for roughly half the price. With the intelligence of HetNet Gateway and the flexibility of CWS, this innovative solution delivers the following benefits to global operators: • Cost-Effective Network Upgradability via Software-Defined Radio (SDR) Functionality By integrating GSM, UMTS, and LTE on the same form factor, operators can provide 2G access and seamlessly migrate to 3G/4G capabilities at their own pace and budget with a software upgrade from HNG, without replacing the equipment onsite. • Improved End-User Experience Since all traffic, licensed or unlicensed, is orchestrated by HetNet Gateway’s virtualized real-time 2G/3G/4G SON, this solution allows end-users to switch between cellular and Wi-Fi technologies automatically without impacting their experience. • Architectural and Operational Simplification Through HNG’s Network Function Elimination (NFE) approach, operators can combine 2G, 3G, 4G gateway functionalities on one platform to simplify deployment and maintenance of any G networks. Real-time SON on HetNet Gateway automates ongoing maintenance via self-optimization capabilities. • Lowest TCO on the Market Easy installation and the ability to run 2G/3G/4G on one solution along with flexible in-band relay/meshing backhaul reduces operators’ CAPEX. Lowest power consumption and network automation reduces OPEX, so operators can increase profitability throughout the entire network lifecycle. “There are still many markets around the world where 2G deployments continue and will need to be supported into the future. 2G R&D, however, is not always a priority for every network vendor. Support for 2G is a logical move for Parallel Wireless, building on their 3G/4G deployments and an architecture designed for flexibility. For operators looking to serve emerging markets while investing in future network expansions, the capabilities will be welcomed,” said Peter Jarich, VP and Chief Analyst, Global Data. “As part of our mission to connect the unconnected and improve people’s lives, providing reliable, cost-effective 2G coverage is essential. By adding 2G capabilities to our solution, we can now offer cost savings and network simplification for any G cellular network to make it economically viable for operators to connect the unconnected. With the ability to cost-effectively upgrade from 2G to 4G, this solution also creates a network architecture that is 5G-ready today,” said Rajesh Mishra, Founder and CTO at Parallel Wireless.

I'm Grubhub CTO Maria Belousova, and This Is How I Work

I'm Grubhub CTO Maria Belousova, and This Is How I Work Nick Douglas, 08.11 PM IST Since starting at Grubhub in 2014, Maria Belousova has served as VP of engineering, SVP of technology, and now as CTO, where she oversees Grubhub's technical infrastructure and product vision. Previously she's held tech leadership positions at Microsoft and Bluefly , and she founded the social media platform Davai. She told us about growing up in a family of software engineers, and how she gets her work done without a to-do list. Location: New York One word that best describes how you work: Focused Current mobile device: iPhone Current computer: MacBook Air First of all, tell me a little about your background and how you got to where you are today. I grew up in a family of computer scientists in Minsk, Belarus. I used to wake up to my mom talking assembly on the phone; software engineering has been always a family craft. Still, growing up I was passionate about math and thought that I would become a mathematician one day. Advertisement Then, at 19, I left home and came to the U.S. as a political refugee. Away from my family, my focus shifted on supporting myself and building a career. I realized that what I knew best and what I am good at is solving problems with software. The rest is history-I've built a wide range of things, from device drivers, to distributed systems, to navigation software, search engines and beyond. At one point in my career, when I worked at Microsoft, I became passionate about search, relevance, discovery and hyperlocal commerce. Later, I left Microsoft and started a data mining company focused on detecting commercial intent in social media. Still, engineering was always my passion and Grubhub is perfect place for a technologist-a combination of hyperlocal commerce, logistics and a treasure trove of data. I've been at Grubhub for almost four years now and it's incredible to look back and think about how much we've accomplished in that time. What apps, software, or tools can't you live without? Well, Grubhub of course, but outside of that communications apps are important to me. Gmail, Slack, Bluejeans , Facetime, Whatsapp, and Skype all have their place in keeping me connected with my team throughout the day, as well as with my family in Europe. What's your workspace setup like? I have a standing desk, like many of my team members do, in an open workspace. I like to work side-by-side with my team and make sure that I'm accessible and approachable to everyone; it really encourages openness and collaboration. What's your best time-saving shortcut or life hack? I don't believe in multitasking, with one exception: working out and thinking. I normally take an hour to work out in the morning. During that time, I get in the zone, think about what I want to accomplish for the day and revisit any open questions. By the time I am done with my workout, I have a game plan for the day. What's your favorite to-do list manager? None. I think to-do lists are evil. They zap mental energy and drag you down. If something is important I handle it right away or book it on my calendar or ask someone on my team to run with it. Luckily, I have an incredible team that can handle whatever comes our way. What everyday thing are you better at than everyone else? What's your secret? Laser-focus. I can easily develop a sense of urgency for key tasks and then block out everything else while focusing on them. Advertisement Also, as a leader, I am strongly invested in my team's success. When I see them make a breakthrough or achieve an important milestone, I feel an immense sense of pride and accomplishment and I acknowledge and congratulate those achievements. I work to make my team successful, and to help them feel supported. What do you listen to while you work? Got a favorite playlist? Maybe talk radio? Or do you prefer silence? I spend a lot of time in meetings, so normally I listen to people. When I do need to get in the zone, techno, trance and ambient music is the best sound to get me focused-a habit I developed in my coding days. When I am under pressure, heavy industrial rock works better than a triple-shot espresso. What are you currently reading? Or what's something you'd recommend? Recently I read "The One Thing". While it wasn't a major eye opener, it did a great job summarizing something I've suspected for a while - focusing your energy and effort on the most important thing helps reduce noise and accomplish your goals. At Grubhub we often distill our goals down to one or two to make it absolutely clear what's important. How do you recharge? What do you do when you want to forget about work? I love to hike. My family and I go hiking pretty much every weekend. We either go out of town or hike through the concrete jungle of Manhattan. My 7-year-old has become a great hiker! Also, playing piano was something that I always wanted to do, so recently I started taking lessons. It's amazing how much fun it is and also a huge stress relief. What's your favorite side project? I love food and I want to pass this passion onto my daughter. She and I often cook together and try new dishes. On weekends we try out new restaurants and I encourage her to order something new and interesting. She has a very developed palate for a 7-year-old and makes Mommy proud. What's your sleep routine like? Are you a night owl or early riser? Before I was a parent, I was a huge night owl. Now that I have a child, it's lights out at 10pm and wake up at 6am. Fill in the blank: I'd love to see ____
