Natalia Vodianova’s guide to the perfect Halloween party

On Saturday, models and celebrities will gather in New York for the fourth Fabulous Fund Fair, organised by Natalia Vodianova with artistic direction from Jeff Koons. Ahead of the festivities, the model and Naked Heart Foundation founder shares her tips for hosting a Halloween bash to remember.

When it comes to throwing a fabulous Halloween party, Natalia Vodianova’s advice is simple: “Create as many social media and Instagrammable moments as possible.” Plan entertainment in advance. “Don’t let your guests hide in the corners, encourage them to move around the space with games and activities,” she counsels. As for the playlist, “it needs to be a mix of kitsch and cool, but not too cool—after all, the most important thing is to get everyone moving.” Vodianova recommends Ed Sheeran’s ‘Shape Of You’.

On Saturday, Vodianova’s Naked Heart Foundation and amfAR, the Foundation for AIDS Research, will transform the Skylight Clarkson North in Manhattan into a classic fun fair with stalls, games and attractions. But this being Vodianova’s universe, the stalls will be manned by celebrities, and the prizes have been donated by brands such as Givenchy, Chopard and Dior. Balmain will host the pin-the-tail, and Louis Vuitton is supplying the bumper cars. The concept is just about as far removed from a formal charity dinner as you can get.

“I love it when the stallholders really get into the spirit,” says Vodianova. “Kristin Scott Thomas was the most amazing clairvoyant! And Suzy Menkes makes the best donkey derby pundit. I really hope we can get her to New York.” This time around, Doutzen Kroes, Helena Christensen and Anja Rubik are among the bold-faced names who will man the stalls. Nas and Charli XCX are slated to perform.
All proceeds from the fair will benefit amfAR and the Naked Heart Foundation. The latter, founded by Vodianova in 2004, funds a variety of efforts aiding children living in Russia, including support to families raising children with disabilities. It is a cause closely tied to Vodianova’s own well-documented experience growing up below the poverty line in western Russia. Before starting her career as a model aged 17, she helped her mother sell fruit on the street to support her family, including a half-sister with cerebral palsy.

To celebrate her partnership with Koons, Vodianova will go dressed as one of Koons’ most famous sculptures, the Balloon Venus. “I’m definitely going for goofy rather than sexy this year,” she says. And what will the immaculately tailored Koons wear to the party? “I don’t know!” says Vodianova. “He can wear a suit, but let’s hope there’s some fake blood on the shirt.”

The Fabulous Fund Fair will take place on October 28 at Skylight Clarkson North in New York City. Tickets are available at Nakedheart.org
