Barcelona Manager Ernesto Valverde Discusses 2-0 Win Over Athletic Bilbao en Raghav Panch 29 Oct 2017

Barcelona manager Ernesto Valverde has expressed his delight after his side's 2-0 win over Athletic Bilbao but admitted that their second half performance was not up to the mark.
Goals from Lionel Messi and Paulinho gave the away side the win but the game was far from comfortable, with Athletic Bilbao creating a number of good chances that were thwarted by goalkeeper Marc-Andre Ter Stegen. Speaking to Movistar Plus after the game, as reported by Marca , Valverde said, "The first half was good. We dominated and showed we can create problems, but they did have chances with [Aritz] Aduriz." "We're lucky to have Messi."Valverde pays tribute to @FCBarcelona star after San Mames success. — MARCA in English (@MARCAinENGLISH) October 29, 2017
"In the second half we came under pressure and although they didn't have many clear chances, they had a lot of possession around the area and could have scored."

Valverde also reserved praise for star man Lionel Messi who scored his 12th La Liga goal of the season. He said, "The season is long and there are many games. There is time for everyone to shine. We are lucky to have Messi, who decides games, but we also have a lot of very good players." That's a fantastic result. Have to say though, Valverde deserves credit for a great first half, and blame for a lacklustre second. The 53-year-old made his first return to Bilbao since leaving the club for Barcelona this summer and claimed that the experience as the opposition manager was a strange one for him. "It was strange at the beginning and during the match. I am not used to being here as a rival, but I had to get over that and we came through."

Barcelona next take on Olympiakos in the Champions League before a home tie against Sevilla in La Liga. They currently lie top of the league table with 28 points, four ahead of second placed Valencia. Transfer News
